+Zaq Kickasola (Da Shurif) Mike is a great lyrics writer and defines the sound of the boys. He tried keeping it together. I do not understand the hate for him. Mike wrote most lyrics, Brian wrote the music. Together a great team.
+AIWF Southwest Mike wrote vapid lyrics to throwaway jingles. He was certainly no Tony Asher or Van Dyke Parks. And no, Brian defined the sound. But I don't hate Love because he wrote Kokomo, I hate him because he's been nothing but a slimy dick to Brian all these years
The amount of orchestration condensed into 217 seconds of what's essentially a "pop song" is astounding. It sounds fresh every time I hear it, regardless of how many years it's been. "Timeless" and "masterpiece" are often used to describe songs, and many of them are lesser than this gem. To conceive and record this in 1966 is even more impressive. If musicians strive to reach this level of creativity and fail, it's possible to still be deemed a success.

It is sad that people insult modern day genius. They really think that the only geniuses are in classical music and that they can not move forward in time. It is genius! Modern day genius.
agnetha neve ragnhilde I strongly disagree. While this song is peculiarly complex when it comes to pop/rock music standards it is nowhere near the complexity of classical music. I'd also disagree that pop/rock music is the one that's forward thrusting compared to "conservative" classical music. If anything, pop is the one that uses the painfully stereotypical modulations, harmonies, keys, time signatures, etc. The only reason there is perceived fading of classical in favour of pop is solely because of modernist decision at the turn of the 20th century to move further into the elitist territory by washing away the 19th century mainstream admiration for romantics, whose audience, because of complete deconstruction of tonality, now had no choice but to turn towards more digestible music.
Der Eremit in Griechenland Well, you must of have heard it, but i think prog rock is like the perfect limit between classical and rock music... you know, bands like yes or genesis, even pink floyd...
Literally a masterpiece. My mom mom and pop pop still get excited to this day whenever they hear this song, like it’s still the first time they ever heard it

This entire song is a classic, but the part that really seems to be truly inspirational for me is just before the end, from about 3:14 - 3:27. That's counterpoint there. That takes some real compositional and musical skill to pull that off.

Just discovered this because it is one of the songs to induce the most dopamine , that also help people to concentrate ( which I desperately need it ) . Ironically , the best / happiest songs are from the 1900-2000s . Now most of them are all about romance or depression and people actually like them .
I get a feeling of light blue and white dancing in the air and the thrill of the 16-year-old me in 1966 experiencing the scent of romance for the first time. It was a great time to be young.
It could be out there. It’s transmitted as a radio wave from the AM broadcast station. If their transmitter had 50,000 watt power, clear night, very low interference, it may have penetrated the atmosphere and gone on its way. The commas, the periods, the punctuation. Your sentence is a nightmare of ignorance, and no one can take that away from you.
I never understood their music until I saw Love&Mercy. Now I have the highest level of respect for the Beach Boys.
I still don't care for Mike Love, but Brian is a goddamn genius, and Carl had the most beautiful voice
yes! That's exactly how I feel hah
But I don't hate Love because he wrote Kokomo, I hate him because he's been nothing but a slimy dick to Brian all these years
+Zaq Kickasola (Da Shurif) I love Tony Ashers work. Just not a fan of Parks. I did not like his contributions to the boys. Just my preference.
"Close my eyes
She's somehow closer now
Softly smile, I know she must be kind" wow.
Now THATS how you write lyrics ...
Right this is a really good song I heard this on Vanilla Sky & US.
He's talking about me.😎😊
The amount of orchestration condensed into 217 seconds of what's essentially a "pop song" is astounding.
Agreed, I don't think anybody since could match the Beach Boys sound.
First time this came on the radio I was cruising at night in the rain near Dallas in my '57 Chevy - Had the side vent open to let a cool mist waft in, listening to KLIF rock out. I'm 73 now and I remember it like it was yesterday.
The WRECKING CREW and Beach Boys vocalists in totally insane form..... The end part ends too abruptly....... should have gone on another 30, 40 seconds........
That's so cool :) I'm only 14 but I love hearing stories from a while back. Love the beach boys ✌️
I’m 70, golden memories of The Beach Boys even though I grew up in Ohiya and never saw the Pacific Ocean TIL I was 14. At 32 I finally moved to CA, for 22 years. Most recently lived in NZ and AU and am now in Hawaii!
@@nhmooytis7058 awesome!
@@mellowyellow4197 I’m enjoying Hawaii!
The greatest song that Beach Boys created, a true masterpiece ☮️
Si è vero! Grande suono.
I dont think so. Maybe it's cliché at this point but "God only knows" has left a lasting, untouchable legacy on the entire planet that still stands to this day.
Pet Sounds by far their best album and maybe even all of music's.
My opinion
Surfs up is also another one that’s right up there the last two and a half mins of the song is other-worldly.
@@narrow3601 To me Good Vibrations and God Only Knows are their 2 best songs. I'd understand the argument for either song being their best. I personally like God Only Knows more though.
Literally EVERY Beach boys song is a *BOP*
Brian Wilson Is a genius.
The 80s stuff is so forgettable cuz Brian is absent.
What about Hey, Little Tomboy
I’m 50 and I have only recently realised how good the beach boys are with their amazing harmony’s snd great songs.
I'm glad my father showed me good music when I was young because whenever I feel like listening to something awesome from another time I know just where to go
Brian Wilson is a genius.
MattMonk “For those who believe Brian Wilson walks on water, I will always be the Anti-Christ”-Mike Love.
@@It9LpBFS37 what makes this song genius to people is the mix of so many different elements of music. It still manages to sound coherent.
Der Eremit in Griechenland Well, you must of have heard it, but i think prog rock is like the perfect limit between classical and rock music... you know, bands like yes or genesis, even pink floyd...
Literally a masterpiece. My mom mom and pop pop still get excited to this day whenever they hear this song, like it’s still the first time they ever heard it
I was 15yo when it came out in 1966. Every hear of Monterey Music Fest or Woodstock? Those were the days!😁
Literally? For f***'s sake. Learn English please.
I've heard it 5000 times at least and I get chills in my happy place.
I thank God that I grew up in Santa Monica (So Cal) during this era. This masterpiece music was on the radio along with so many other colorful flavors of music that are timeless. Brian is a Genius and the Beach Boys voices made his music incredible. Nothing compares today.
Here's the most inappropriate song to play during a earthquake
Best comment
hahahaha
+endurocatfish Oml
Lol
+endurocatfish 10/10 would play good vibrations during a earthquake
I never was a fan, but as I grow older (now 60) I've learned what musical genius is all about.
Hello, how are you doing today I hope you’re doing ok and having a great day so far God bless you 😊😊😊
Every time I hear this, I can still feel the sand between my toes and the sound of the surf in the background, sends me back in time.
This is one of those song's that no matter how many years have passed, you never get tired of hearing it! definitely my Beach Boys favorite song!
Totally agree! Love this song
RN I'm laying on the beach, chilling, listeningto this, what a vibe.
One of my favorite songs from The Beach Boys ❤️
samee
+Helen Skyee yes this my favourite beach boy track
Brian and the wreaking crew not beach boys
This perfect playlist can make anyone's day brighter!! Thank you Beach Boys!!
The Beach Boys were a big part of why I moved to CA. The vibe of their music transcends generations and time. Here since the past 31 years and counting.
Southern CA is beautiful, but the politics suck! Gavin Newsome is lead character out of the movie American Psycho.. spooky
SoCal for life
This is a CLASSIC! Genius for the Beach Boys. Very creative music.
The layering on this song is insane 💖
the first 25 seconds are priceless
From 0:00-3:38 is unforgettable
***** That's exactly what I meant.
+tonyhawkarg and +Jose Martinez I agree with you guys. For me it just doesn't mix well. I can't believe this song is the 6th BEST SONG OF ALL TIME, according to Rolling Stone Magazine. Crazy…….
+Juan Gil it mixes well to me. i like the contrast. beautiful dreamy vocals in the beginning, then the rolling bass and harmonies hit you in the face. not to mention this track was incredibly innovative at the time. definitely deserves a place in the top 10 of all time, imo. :)
+tonyhawkarg I agree, I wish it didn't have the corny parts and stuck with the tempo in the beginning.
One of the best songs ever written, and the production values A+
surely one of the most innovative songs of the 60s..or any decade in fact.
Still a classic more than 50 years later! Easily THE definitive Beach Boys song !!
Absolutely! Although the Beatles said "God Only Knows" is the best pop song ever written.
I'd say those two are tied. Both amazing in their own way.
Wouldn't it be nice if music was still this good.
chewie211171 it wouldn't be a classic if it wasn't old, hence the word "classic"
This entire song is a classic, but the part that really seems to be truly inspirational for me is just before the end, from about 3:14 - 3:27. That's counterpoint there. That takes some real compositional and musical skill to pull that off.
The Beach Boys and the Bee Gees were the masters of harmony.
Crosby Stills Nash and Young were pretty damn good too- Try Suite: Judy Blue Eyes on for size, or any of their songs almost.
@@bobtaina yea, I was just gonna say the same.even jerry garcia and grateful dead tried learning from Crosby stills and nash.
The best song from Beach Boys. Love this song to pieces ❤️
Best Beach Boys Song Ever.
Definitely.
Best Song Ever.
my rock band Why Not started in 1965 and we loved this band a lot amazing arrangements super vocal harmonies very well advanced in recording as well just amazing work lovely song had a big influence on the beatles as well good times we were more psychedelic rock but there you go rock on!
The very best Beach Boys hit in my opinion!
Just discovered this because it is one of the songs to induce the most dopamine , that also help people to concentrate ( which I desperately need it ) . Ironically , the best / happiest songs are from the 1900-2000s . Now most of them are all about romance or depression and people actually like them .
Brian Wilson is an absolute genius
Wonderful song, i'd be LOST without it
Rest in peace, Charlie Pace. We all loved ya :)
Brian Wilson’s Masterpiece.
The man was a GENIUS songwriterv❤️❤️❤️
Mastermind behind the writing.
Oh ok
@@lindasook7817 Hello Linda.. how are you doing?
Hello Brenda.. how are you doing?
I’m almost 13 and I love The Beach Boys! My Mimi introduced it to me and I still love it!
Good for you and Mimi!
This brings back so many lovely memories of my youth.
So much good music was constantly coming out. ❤
❤
The mix at the beginning ... cacophony of disjointed sounds and that organ like a broken mechanism clunking .pure genius
Dang, I just listened to 2 of their songs and I already love their Music. The harmonies are heaven.
Listen to god only knows if you have t yet incredible song!
That ending always leaves me wanting more, what a masterpiece.
What a composition, like four songs in one
That.. " I....."
always gives me the chills... And its just the beginning 🖤
I get a feeling of light blue and white dancing in the air and the thrill of the 16-year-old me in 1966 experiencing the scent of romance for the first time. It was a great time to be young.
It's "ah"
BY FAR the best Beach Boys song.
They should send this out to space as an example of human achievement in music.
It could be out there. It’s transmitted as a radio wave from the AM broadcast station. If their transmitter had 50,000 watt power, clear night, very low interference, it may have penetrated the atmosphere and gone on its way. Who knows, teenagers on a beach in the next galaxy over could be rocking with the Boys right now!
No, aliens would completely overestimate our capabilities.
If the aliens saw this, they would congratulate us on our achievement
This fucking song makes me feel alive in the PUREST way possible
same
well said@
Classic song, Carol Kaye is the infamous bassist for this song. Watch The Wrecking Crew documentary on Netflix. You will appreciate the Beach Boys and other great bands of that era!
Sharky Moses Well put, Mr. Moses, Well put...
Well, it does give you, Good Vibrations.
Totally holds up today, despite its age...I'm never unhappy to hear it...no matter how many times.
All classical music holds up throught the centuries and this is no different.
Quite possibly the pinnacle of 60s music. Brian Wilson's arrangement is the best I have ever heard and the production is astounding. It's unbelievable how much is going on here in under four minutes. And those harmonies. I would put this into the ten greatest songs EVER - it is absolutely timeless and gives me goose bumps every time I hear it. I don't know where but she sends me there...wow.
Pure classic.
Real American music.
One of America’s contributions to the world.
Okey American buddy
Is America the only word you know?
I don't know but I think this guy's American
I remember listening to this song and being a fan when I was a kid back in the 1980's. Love this song!
Ha, I don't remember listening to this song and leaving this comment a year ago.
Awesome! 👍👏😊 I've seen them so many times in concert. Love them!
Hello Julie, how are things going with you?

Goodbye scammer
None of your business how she's doing
There were problems in the 60s as there have been in every decade. However, there was a feeling of positivism and optimism which was reflected in a lot of the music. This song is almost other-worldly... Genius
Brian Wilson is a genius. Hes been through hell. And survived. He has 2 lovely daughters. And a good life. And he knows it.
So would you say his life is filled with good vibrations? (No pun intended)
He has five daughters..and two sons.
Absolute genius!! Bless his dear soul...
And he so deserves his happiness. God Bless Brian Wilson, Melinda, and his family.
Well said I comply
I was 9 years old when this came out as a single on AM radio . I remember the first time I heard it .
On a good day, this song hits just right. So right that I can feel it inside me.
I grew up in the 90s and listen to rap. I listened to the Beach Boys and love their music, and rock now.
The film Love & Mercy brought me here. This music was before my time but never too late to appreciate it.
Jeff Rodriguez Yea. Me and my boyfriend are bout to watch this I hear okay? Fuck.
This song is pure genius.
