I've been using this for about 3 months and really like it. Creating safety tracks with it has saved more then one video for me. Excellent video Caleb!
Nice trick on recording multiple tracks at different levels. I've accidentally recorded audio with peaking that distorted too much to use. Had I setup multiple levels like this, I wouldn't have lost that work. Thanks and keep up the awesome work!
We really appreciate you finding these little gadgets! Thanks so much :) Saves us carrying round a separate audio recorder & receivers in a bag by running the Rodes into the cam ;)
I need you to do a tutorial on on camera audio!!! pleeeease. I have such a hard time figuring out the difference between preamps, mixers, etc and left / right channels and what to do with them on camera and then on post TOO MUCH.
This device sounds great if the preamp of your camera or camcorder works well or decently at least: or if you use active mics. For example if you connect it to the Saramonic lavalier wireless mic (UWMIC9) the audio level will be low for the preamp of that lapel is very weak. So if you are not sure about what you are going to connect to the SR-AX100, just get his bigger brother, the SR-PAX1. Quite the opposite if you connect active mics like Røde Videomic pro or Videomic pro plus to the SR-AX100 you'll get great audio!
This intrigues me. I had recorded a promotional video for my professor on my college's music program. The audio for footage on students practicing performance was so distorted and over peaked. The footage was only used for B roll atleast. But yeah having that spilt, one channel for when people are talking, and others performing could be so usseful.
i honestly watched the video till 3:30, went to amazon to buy it, and started wondering why my two lav mics doesn´t work when the mixer arrived.... THEN i went on watching the video and the note poped up. impatience story of my life......... anyway.. very helpful content caleb! keep up the good work man! Greets from Germany :)
A safety track is impotent for shooting fireworks. As well on a ZOOM h1n and a TASCAM 05n. the noise is load when you turn them down past half way. This will let you reduce the level when the audio recorder is on the higher/quieter levels.
What a great video, I'm having issues with too much signal into my A7R3 from my AT8022. During loud concerts I can't stop clipping even with my camera's preamp turned down to 1, this seems like a great solution.
Thank you for this video. It seems like the perfect solution for recording two Lavs into a Zoom H1! I film car interviews in the vehicle so we sit close and I've been looking for a great solution like this. Would you recommend I use this system or just buy another used Zoom H1? Thanks Caleb!
Hey man, love your channel and all your content. This review came out before the Wireless GO system was released, so just wanted to know if it will work with that system?
Hi! I have a question :) Should I build out my rig with a cage and all I can think of mounting to it? Cage, monitor, pre-amp, light, mic, top and side handle, audio recorder, battery pack, rails, blackbox, ect... OR try to keep it as light as possible? One reason to get like a a6300 is the light weight and size. It seems like a lot of people like to build big rigs just to get a big rig... ? What do you guys think?
My a6500 is in the mail and your channel has been a great source of ideas for various setups. While travelling I'm going to be using the Zoom H1 to record audio along with the video I shoot. From samples I've heard, it has great stereo separation. Do you think there would be any benefit (and would it be possible) to use the H1 as a wider stereo source, with an additional forward facing shotgun style microphone, mixed together for forward clarity? Thanks!
Caleb, I'd be right to think this could be used outputting to any recorder? Not just camera. So a safety track effectively can be recorded to one channel on any recorder provided a battery powered mic is used?
I am wanting to record an interview using two lav microphones, I have a single RODE Filmaker kit. I can't afford to purchase a second RODE Filmaker kit, so wondering if I connected two lav mics to this Saramonic unit, then the unit to the RODE transmitter would that work do you think?
Thank you for the review, I made all my purchases decisions form your channel. I got a Saramonic SR-AX100 after I saw this and it works fine on my Panasonic GH4 with Rode VideoMic NTG and Rode Wireless Go together, but it seems not working with my iPhone. The NTG and the Go can work separately through a lightning adapter, but not working through SR-AX100 simultaneously. Is there any alternative way that I can use them both on my iPhone simultaneously? Very appreciate!
Hi. I just left a commented at your video on the wireless go, in which you also showed the mixer. But the comment/question fits better here. Do you habe any idea why the Deity D3 Pro isn't working with the mixer? The lamp dosent turn green. Thanks in advance!
Do you know if passive mixers like this require some power from the camera side? As in would they work with a camcorder that doesn't offer any power from the mic jack? As in - where does the power to do the mixing coming from?
Hey, thanks to showing this awesome device to us. Is there a possability that you make a video about camera cages, especially the cheap ones, like the LED Lights? i want to buy one, but there are so many out there and I dont know on what do I hae to take care. Thanks alot :D
I film a lot of singing straight into camera not able to monitor audio really considering this for a safety track loose a lot of videos due to peaking in the tiniest part
I purchased the Saramonic AX100 and the Movo VXR 10 (Thanks to your video recommendation). Unfortunately, this setup does not work with my Sony A6500. I also tried to add a wired lapel and that didn't work either. Do you have any suggestions? I love your vlog.
Hello Caleb - I just purchased this SR-AX100 along with a Deity D3 Pro mic and I can't get the mic to activate when recording on my Canon 5D Mark II when plugged into the Saramonic. But if I go straight from the mic to the camera, the mic turns on just fine with the green LED. Do you know if the Deity D3 Pro is compatible with the SR-AX100? Or do you think I have a defective mixer?
Hi Caleb, according to your note this will not work with the Rode videomicro right as that one doesn’t have a battery. Would the SR-PAX1 solve that or is the battery just for xlr phantom power?
Would it work to use an RCA line out from a DJ mixer to a Rode Wireless Go, to this device for level control to camera for some sort of wireless dj recording straight to the camera?
Do you think if i bought this and two wireless lav mics with 2 Transmitters, 2 Receivers all costing about £150 ($207) this would work and would be cheaper than any Dual Wireless VHF Lavalier Microphone Bundles costing £400 ($554) and work ?
Thank you for posting this great review! I ended up getting one, but ran into an issue...hoping to get some help here. I'm running 2 Blink 500 B2 lavalier mics (4 mics and 2 receivers) through the SR-AX100. Some mics dropping off sporadically. I'm thinking the issue is the SR-AX100 may be designed to mix 2 mono mics (and 1 stereo mic). Are Blink 500's essentially stereo mics (2 channels = 2 mics?).t does record all 4 channels on the DSLR mic input, but sometimes a mic just drops out. Any suggestions or guidance appreciated! FYI, I'm a beginner.
Is there a suitable small piece of kit that can split and hopefully control 2 inputs such as a wired lav mic and the video micro. Both of which don't have there own power
seems like a good enough investment, but for $99 I can the Tascam DR-05 that can do all this plus much more...is that not a better solution. twice the price I know, but is that not money well spent? Anyhoo, thanks for another great video and review...hadn't heard of the little mixer before!
Nice product, but until cheaper bodies stop cheaping out on audio recording, useless to me. Even on my G7 audio is super compressed and crappy sounding.
I watch your ads to support your channel because your videos are actually really helpful! Thumbs up for supporting valuable RUclips channels👍❤
Thank you Free Language! You're too kind!!!
DSLR Video Shooter I do too! Creators need and deserve it. LOVE YA CALEB!
that idea of the safety track is genius
Abraham Sotelo yeah
I've been using this for about 3 months and really like it. Creating safety tracks with it has saved more then one video for me. Excellent video Caleb!
Does it improve your audio?
Do you use it for vlogging?
Are you able to split the output so you could monitor your audio?
Nice trick on recording multiple tracks at different levels. I've accidentally recorded audio with peaking that distorted too much to use. Had I setup multiple levels like this, I wouldn't have lost that work.
Thanks and keep up the awesome work!
Thanks Jim! yeah, safety tracks are awesome.
@@dslrvideoshooter how much hissing aka internal noise do you hear with your audio after using this?
First review I've seen on this gadget that points out it's true value - the safety track. Excellent! Well done sir!
We really appreciate you finding these little gadgets!
Thanks so much :)
Saves us carrying round a separate audio recorder & receivers in a bag by running the Rodes into the cam ;)
my sentiments!
I bought one and now run 2 rode filmaker kits off it. Work a treat
IM FROM ARGENTINA AND YOU HELP ME A LOT WITH MY CHANNEL. THANKS SR.
Great, looks very nice, exactly like the pre amp you presented a while back, which works great!
I need you to do a tutorial on on camera audio!!! pleeeease. I have such a hard time figuring out the difference between preamps, mixers, etc and left / right channels and what to do with them on camera and then on post
TOO MUCH.
Caleb, awesome video as always. It was a blast meeting and hanging out with you at NAB. Keep the content coming.

I would LOVE to see a video like this on DSLR power banks.
Thanks!
Wonderful tip for safety tracks!
i honestly watched the video till 3:30, went to amazon to buy it, and started wondering why my two lav mics doesn´t work when the mixer arrived.... THEN i went on watching the video and the note poped up.
impatience story of my life.........
anyway.. very helpful content caleb! keep up the good work man! Greets from Germany :)
Really great tips in this video! Now if they release a version of this with one of their preamp built in that would be awesome!
You help make audio easy. Thanks Caleb!
Splitting the audio worked great Thanks

I have a Beachtek version of that. I have no complaint with that.
It's a great idea that you can have an attenuated track!
Just picked this up, thanks!
Very compact, that's awesome.
thanks man we do really appreciate your work, this is very helpful, thanks for taking your time to teach us, thanks master jedi!
Very helpful and professional video, thank you!

Brilliant video very helpful for me to buy the correct device to build my new RUclips channel. Thank you.
thanks for sharing this. Really cool, might be something I need.
Great review of a cool little product, thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching Simon!
Nice this is an awesome little guy!! how does this compare soundwise to say the juicedlink riggy micro?
I had problems with my Saramonic wireless mic, hopefully this is better.
would be better with indicators of levels....
Hey man, love your channel and all your content. This review came out before the Wireless GO system was released, so just wanted to know if it will work with that system?
Hi caleb. Does this provide a way to monitor sound if you were using a g85 for example?
Thanks for all you do.
Gabe
Sold!
Another great video, Caleb. Thanks.
Is there a similar unit out there with a mini amplifier? It'd be a lot more vesatile if it had the option of boosting low-output mics.
Great work, Jacob! How do you always manage to find these useful devices!
Hi! I have a question :) Should I build out my rig with a cage and all I can think of mounting to it? Heres an off topic question. My apologies. What about the monopod do you like over the tripod? I only ask because it seems like you favor it. 🙂🙂✌✌
I have a canon t6i, is this mixer good for lowering my audio in the camera to get a better sound? I have a rode videomic(the one with the battery).
This is what I need thank you
SUPER! Thanks for this video!
Can this be used for mobile phones?

i'm in the middle of buying either or of those wireless mics, but it should work because they're two separate mics.
great job man! cheers from a collegue!
Folks, *NO* Røde VideoMic Go, VideoMicro. Damn shame. I have a VM Pro, but...
Great video! Wondering if this would be smarter than the other Sarmonic preamp you recommended?
If the XLR version had XLR out I would get one.

Excellent video on the exact product I am looking at!! Thank you so much....so silly question
so is the safety track mono? nicevid btw
Excellent! 👍🏾
Novice here - Can I use this to split two mics and NOT have stereo, or if I use stereo, can is mix them together in post on iMovie?
What kind of camera did you use to shoot this video and lens please?
Please do a review on the saramonic lav mic set, or budget lav mic setups. I use a gh5 :) thanks!
I love this video. Great quality, useful info. Tops

Hello, I'm thinking about to purchase such a unit.. I wonder if it ads any noise to the sound? thx in advance
probably a silly question but i see there is an output jack, does that mean you can add headphones to it to monitor audio?
Hmmmm, Interesting question, Perhaps with a Y connector?
I purchased the Saramonic AX100 and the Movo VXR 10 (Thanks to your video recommendation). Unfortunately, this setup does not work with my Sony A6500. I also tried to add a wired lapel and that didn't work either. Do you have any suggestions? I love your vlog.

Would it work to use an RCA line out from a DJ mixer to a Rode Wireless Go, to this device for level control to camera for some sort of wireless dj recording straight to the camera?
Does it properly work with audio line level from an external mixer? Thank you

oddysseyfilm It’s a lot more hassle to use the Tascam Dr-05 because you’d have to sync it in post. After a while, it gets tiring.
I think this is a good solution for in studio type videos.
Will this work for the Sony A7r3?
Nice product, but until cheaper bodies stop cheaping out on audio recording, useless to me.
Even on my G7 audio is super compressed and crappy sounding.
EposVox Good point
Is there any possibility to connect a Headphone to the output?
Thank you so much for this video :)
U always have awesome info
love these videos man. thank u so much
I agree! I've been watching for ages now, and I've learned so much!
Pay attention to the fact that if the signal is saturated already even if you turn down the volume it will rest saturated but not so loud...
Can this work with mobile phones?
Would it work with 2 x BLINK 500 B2 ULTRACOMPACT 2-PERSON, in order to record audio from 4 mics?
Can it work together with Saramonic Smartrig? Mic->smartrig->SR-AX100->camera ?
Can I monitor the sound with my headphones as well?
can i use this to my android smartphone? I have a connector to my smartphone to a normal 3.5 mic. Tnx
