Thanks Jonah for another of Your authentic videos. Luckily love is always the thing that is closest to hate😊 I love my harmonicas because they are sensible (incline to stuck reeds), sophisticated (without overblows and deep bends no chromatic scale), rare (only a handful of players that are really virtuous like Jason Ricci, Filip Jers, Konstantin Reinfeld or Howard Levy) and only to be mastered by real love because, as You say You at a large degree have to find Your own way through.
Thanks again Jonah. I like it very much to listen to You talking about music😊

1: Draw reed 5 going out of tune every time it gets a hard piping.
2: Tuning one note on a harmonica is harder than restringing a whole guitar. My bias is towards 20+ years of guitar and only 2 years playing harp so I've worked on guitars more, but I totally get why John Popper buys a new one & doesn't bother to retune his harps after he blows one flat.
    3) The "which key is this best in?" Question drove me crazy nonstop when I was performing last summer.

I admire that you play a wide variety and array of musical instruments.

I started out trying to use tabs to learn songs. Problem is, there is no agreed notation for how to write the tabs. As I got a little bit better, it seemed easier and quicker just to just try the piece out and hack at the parts that were hard till I got them. Fortunately there is a ton of recordings on the internet as well as a bunch of well done tutorials by people like yourself. Thanks again Jonah!

I am new to harmonica, but make one harmonica stuck on that much reed at the same time, that's how pros do, right?

If you're sitting in with a band they usually don't mind telling you what key the song is in. But after a few years you learn to hear if you need something in the neighborhood of an Aharp or up higher where you need an f harp. Blow hole 1 draw 1 an draw 2. You'll find the right key in a jiffy. But you have to have them all. And you need a set of spares in a gig situation. Spend the money and be ready.

What I do for a stuck reed is that I blow and draw the length of the instrument. Then I firmly pat the harp in my palm and then my thigh. If the comb is not wood or bamboo, my next move is to flush it with a stream of water from both sides until I'm satisfied that it is clean and unobstructed. Then I firmly pat the water out of it, in the palm, on the thigh. I leave the harp, mouthpiece down on a towel to dry. I will come back later and test it out. That usually gives my hours of uninterrupted playing without stuck reeds.

Finding the correct key should not be a problem if you have practiced the song and then practiced the song with the band.
Your harmonica case should be set up where the keys are identifiable and placed back in its designated place. Your harmonicas should be set up like a Braille system where you can reach and feel without looking.

Oh yeah, but that’s what I said. You need to plan ahead of time. Other musicians have way more of ability to adapt as far as this goes.

@@HarmonicaRevolution You would know better than I since you are a more advanced musician than I am. But, it works for me.

What is your opinion on British "Chord - Blues Ten Harmonica"? A relatively new brand getting popularity in EU. Trashy or ...? What do you think?

Hi for me I find these 5 things one of the appealing challenges with the harmonica, Take them 5 things away I think it make the harp to easy. and boring Like the DM48 Digital Chromatic Harmonica on all instruments playing it organically takes a different skill set to make it sound good.

I’ve used the blowing in and out with success but was advised it’s not great to do….may break a reed.

    • @HarmonicaRevolution
      @HarmonicaRevolution  Месяц назад

I’ve heard that too, but in my experience, it’s not a big issue. It hasn’t been a problem for me. Bending is more effective if you could do that, and probably less detrimental to the reed.

@@HarmonicaRevolution Thanks, I’ve done it several times with success and no damage to my reeds. I was advised it wasn’t a good idea from the guy I take my harmonica’s to for cleaning and repair. I trust what he says so I thought I’d pass along the potential downside.

If the comb is plastic you will probably be okay, but I had spit lodged into a wood harp & didn't get unstuck until I played it hard enough to blow the reed flat on the spot.
