    ENTRE AMIGOS
Entre Amigos is a tribute to the friendship among colleagues. It was commissioned by Dr. Verrier to be premiered by the Vanderbilt University Wind Symphony at the CBDNA National Conference in Athens, Georgia. Composed specifically as a "second movement" between the rapid Pajarillo and Fandago, the piece uses as source material two popular Colombia dance rhythms of moderate tempo, Bambuco and Currulao. These two distinct styles , both characterized by a juxtaposition of 6/8 and 3/4 meter, serve as inspiration, freely interwoven almost indistinctly in the piece.
Ruben Dario Gomez was born in Zapatoca, Colombia in 1973. He is a conductor, composer, arranger, pianist, and producer, earning his OMA degree in wind band conducting at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, as well as his Master of Music degree at Middle Tennessee State University, and his Bachelor of Music degree at Universidad Industrial de Santander (Colombia). His pieces have been performed in Colombia, the United States, Spain, Germany, Argentina, Brazil, and Venezuela, and he has conducted bands and orchestras in Colombia, Peru, and in the United States. Dr. Gomez has been the director of bands and assistant professor of music at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville since 2020.
