    hey! i'm a 9th grade student in queensland, and i'm just wondering how difficult it is to become a psychologist? is it extremely difficult and something which would easily drain people out studying? also, i've always wondered how people manage with money throughout their years of studying in uni, so what do people usually do? do uni students find a part-time job to help sort of how a highschool student works afterschool + weekends? i really have no clue how university works, like if you go there every few days or if it's all weekdays. i understand i have a long way to go, but it's just so interesting! thank you so much

    Hi Ro! Firstly, thank you for your informative videos. They really help demystify alot of the nitty gritty around taking up psychology as a profession.
    My question is around how you managed living expenses while studying full time. Alot of unis have disclaimers advising that even a part time job will be difficult if you want to perform well in the course (which we all know is a must if you want to get anywhere).
    Say someone wants to do a 2 year masters or a 3-4 year doctorate of clinical psychology. Do you have any resources that might help in the above context?

    Thanks for the video! So you do 3 years of undergrad, 4th year of honours, 2 years of Masters or 4 years Masters + Phd (during this time you can work in private practice) and then 60 hours of supervised practice? Do we have to undertake the 60 hours over two years specifically or is it just, 'finish 60 hours, and done'?

    • @thepsychdiaries
      @thepsychdiaries  3 года назад +1

      So its 352 hours of direct client contact (completed in a minimum of two years) + 80 hours supervision. The 60 hours I beleive is for masters/ PhD. To be honest the exact hour requiresments are a little tricky (there's literally a forum on fb where psychs discuss the breakdown of them) but yes for masters you need a min of 2 years after!

    Hey! I bet u would have thought if u should go to a different country to study psychology and probably did some research about it (but u stayed in Australia only lol) soo what do u think is the best place to study psychology?
    And can u recommend any best universities for psychology?

    • @thepsychdiaries
      @thepsychdiaries  3 года назад

      I haven't actually! Though I did study in america which was fun. In australia I would recommend University of Sydney, University of New South Wales, Melbourne Uni, Monash (though to be honest it's hard to speak for unis I havent attended)

      Hi, Ro, I have been watching your videos and I really enjoy them. Thanks for sharing your experience. I have completed a bachelor's degree in nursing, so I guess I will need to start a postgraduate of psychology. However, I am a bit stuck on which uni should I choose. There are so many uni whose fees are cheaper than others including university of New South Wales. I am wondering if I go to the so-called prestigious universities, I might be competitive later in finding jobs? Thanks, Jin

      Yes! There is an arts stream however I don't think there are the same career pathways e.g. pretty sure the arts stream doesn't have the level of statistics/ research the science stream has

      Hey! Thanks for tuning in :) Hmm unfortunately I'm not sure- it differs quite a lot between different unis. I think my advice would be to reach out to your uni's psychology faculty/ the uni you would like to get into and ask their individual requirements. Good luck!

      Hey Tanya! Right now neither- I’m a clinical psychology registrar which means I’ve competed my clinical psychology masters but i need 2 more years of work experience before I can get to call myself ‘clinical psychologist’ :)

    • @ShadowsOfTheWeb

      In America in order to be considered a “clinical psychologist” you must get a PhD or PsyD which can take a total of 8/9 years of school. I was wondering if you only did a masters program (2 years). In America i did my undergrad and going into my masters but in the USA but here I would be considered a licensed clinical professional counselor, we wouldn’t be considered a psychologist until we went to a phd/psyd program.
      Was just wondering why in your country getting a masters means you are a psychologist? When here you would just be a therapist.

    • @thepsychdiaries
      @thepsychdiaries  3 года назад +1

      Hey Summer :) yep you don't need a PhD to become a psychologist in Australia. Including undegrad and postgrad masters it takes 8 years total for us to become a clin psych. Most people who pursue a PhD in addition to a masters are interested in a particular area and those who only do a PhD but not a masters can't become psychologists- most would probably continue into academia or research!
