The problem with contemporary trance is that it doesn't let individual sounds breathe and say their story individually and in unison. It sounds cramped and doesn't evoke the feelings for which trance is known for. It sounds all over the place. Its focus has shifted to sound epic. It is in a hurry to make an impact and doesn't want pauses, silence and breaks in a track which results in the track sounding too busy. It doesn't allow for even a tiny bit of empty space and if it does so it is for creating anticipation for that "epic" sound. Such a track doesn't engage you deeply and lacks a particular appeal.
That's because of the mastering and fans and producers themselves they want to hear that kind of crap. The tracks are overcompressed. The scene has changed.
