So good to see you!!!! Summer is just difficult. We're hot here but not as hot as you. Had a couple weeks of upper 90's and drought, but now we are a bit cooler and rain and humidity! Those are fabulous looking roots - can you hear the envy in my voice? So, it's obvious Jack supports you with all that he does, but that new glass 'find' of his proves he is an enabler!!!!
LOL Once I washed it all up he says too nice for orchid LOL So if an orchid , just beautiful one shows up, :0) it goes there. We are ready for Fall here, and need rain badly. Afternoon too hot to even go out in car, nice with ac in car, but just walking from car to somewhere else is Brutal All windows open at 5:30 am sucking cold air in, but by 9: 00 am shut them up till late in evening. Jim Lisa and Stella here from Calgary and they leave tomorrow, so we will meet for lunch today. Calgary also having strange weather huge hail storms heat and forest fires. Stay cool this too will pass :0) Love Carolyn
Thank you, I will! Seems we are back to the old camera with a new card in it. Just issues with sound and quality. Than life things taking longer than usual in this heat. Love Carolyn
How happy you must be taking it out the pot and the roots are beautiful very nice plant. Thanks for the video. I haven’t been around a lot neither because it’s been too hot but cool down a bit 21° for us just right glad you’re all okay, and we’ll catch you soon.
9:34 Today I let the bottom of a newly repotted cattleya soak in hydrogen peroxide and then flushed the pot. There were no new roots at the bottom so I think it was safe to do so. It was the only one that didn't have a decorative container. According to multiple sources, algae only becomes a problem when there is too much. 13:21 Oyster shells are a natural source of calcium and it would be like a slow release fertilizer. They can be found in the bird section of a pet store. 27:22 Cattleyas can handle very high temperatures and are very drought tolerant, but a lot of light is required for reblooming. Any good news about the orchid that got crown rot in the shower? 🤔 We were all hoping for a keiki. 🐣
Probably true about algae, do not think I would let it get to high up the pot. Have read about the oyster shells and at one time thought about mixing it in, would also be good for a little air space like the larger lava rock, but serving a more organic purpose, will check that out at the pet store here. My catacedum was in west window and had lots of light all winter plus led lighting . The one in the traffic cone that lost all it leaves, I thought was crown rot, and still had lots of roots. Has a nice Keiki coming and I think the cause was an old fall well carpenters were working in kitchen. I had lost a leaf at that time but did not notice slight damage that never healed. I Think some times! :0) Love Carolyn
Hello!! I know, just crazy camera trouble, and back using old camera with a new card, or whatever it is called in it. seems to be better. LOL We bought a cheaper camera, but sound and picture was terrible. Love Carolyn
Isn't it nice to find roots in such nice shape after many years of being potted... I was thinking of pulling some of mine, but instead I started fertilizing them lightly every week and this year I'm starting to get them blooming.... I was getting tired of growing green leaves.... Thanks for the video Caroline...
Thank you for coming to visit! It is exciting for me, finding such beautiful roots in their new homes. It seems what we hoped would be the return of normal summer weather is not to be, very hot again, so will give the orchids their second water tomorrow, after we go to local farmers market. We get our eggs there, nice organic eggs, and we go to this Indian set up for some goodies made deliciously. Love Carolyn
@@jacolynsorchids1361948friends I never understood why your weather is so much hotter than in Wisconsin... I get my eggs from my oldest sister's, oldest son who has a small chicken group... Nice deep orange yokes..... Well, stay cool up there.....the wife and I just had central air conditioning put in...and it's nice...... Oh, and keep "Mom" cool....(your mom)... Mike
@@mikeerstad3705 I used to sell eggs on the farm, got spoilt and love home raised eggs. No air conditioning here, we thought it is only a week or so every year, but seems to be a lot more than that lately. Mum is cool in basement, as it is 1/2 underground. Very hot here today it was 35 in shade at lunch time. This will pass Love Carolyn
Hi Carolyn. 👋 I hate the heat. Lots of growth on my Phals A few have skipped their bloom cycle. My Schillariana now has 4 healthy leaves..only because it didn't bloom in the spring. I can't believe it's August already. Enjoying the cherrie tomatoes in my garden ❤ Lets hope for a break in the heat. 🔥
I know Time is just flying by, and seems it takes so much longer to do some things, than it does in cooler weather. This heat just takes it out of you. We thought we were going to bet a break but now back to this Heat. At this moment we have a few clouds, hopefully no thunder and such. Take Care This To Will Pass :0) Love Carolyn
What if you freeze some water and put that chunk of ice in your humidifier would that help cool that room down? I'm in Vancouver BC and we're pretty hot down here too and so that's what I do is I put a chunk of ice in my humidifier it does seem to help. Love your orchids and give your mom a big hug for me she's a winner 🥰
We put two little frozen bottles in the swamp cooler, and until you mentioned this, had not thought of doing same with the big outdoor ones, as the heat is continuing I am sure it will be a great help Thankyou so much. My brother is in Pitt Meadows as we both grew up in Burnaby and went to Burnaby Central in the 60,s. Long time ago. Love this idea Love Carolyn
@@jacolynsorchids1361948friends wow I grew up in Vancouver went to John Oliver graduated in 69. Live in Coquitlam. I always say Vancouver because most people have never heard of Coquitlam lol. All glass vases from thrift store $2 to $5 depending on size and quality. very cheap. Did a video of Jack drilling holes with diamond drill bit, purchased from hardware store, sounds exspensive but not. Love Carolyn
Do you have an idea of what colour new orchid you would like? And size? For the new glass vase? I really want to try the glass vase thing with mine! I’ll have to go to Value Village and see what I can find 😊❤
Oh Big Smile! I love the White Ones, or just something big and healthy looking. Just came in from giving orchids extra water, it was 35 in the shade, Crazy Heat!!!!! I cleaned a couple more that I put in the vases and the roots were perfect, and lots of growth. @RoseMCouture Yes he will give you close up view what he does, case it gets popular :0) Breeze this morning, not good for fires, and long range all Hot no Rain OMG
Wow, impressed with the orchids in glass, Carolyn - especially the one you took out and checked. The roots are definitely happy! I have only one in glass - it’s not doing much. But, I did get new fertilizer, so maybe the few I have left will become happy again, soon. Sorry you’re still too hot for comfort. I love how you take good care of your plants and try to keep them cool! Praying you cool down some! With love, Mary Ann
We Live in the British Columbia Interior. The interior is way hotter and dryer than coastal BC.
