If you've covered Hook and Skyblazer, you need to review Spawn as well, the final game in the "trilogy"
They can’t be a trilogy, Larry, they’re all different games! Stop messing with my head!
Larry Larry Larry
Spawn gets much hate but I actually liked it back then. The opening level was great. Hook was decent as well.
Lookie lookie I got Hookey
first game i ever beat at five years old, it was 1997, happy memories
After 25 years I still can't believe this game is almost unkown, you dont see tons of reviews here on RUclips or being on big gaming channels like Lord Karnage or Cinemassacre. It's such a lovely, easy yet somehow challenging at some points and well balanced game. Just a big big part of my childhood. Thanks for reviewing it! :)
Hook was my all time favorite film as a kid. Of course I will be owning this game. Thanks for the heads up about Skyblazer.
I was a teen at the time and thought it was very average. I am actually slightly astounded when I hear kids back then liked it, as I always thought that a middle-aged Robin Williams was a really weird choice to star in a kids' action movie.
i love this game, one of the best underrated soundtracks on snes
It really bothers me (illogically, of course, lol) how he never runs in any of the clips. You have to hold down the attack button, which I guess feels unnatural, but man, I don't think I let go of that damn button the entire time I played. Otherwise it's like Pan is trudginggg....throughhh...mollassesss
I got my Sega Gensis copy of this game signed by Dante Basco when he came to a local convention
Kyle Miller I just played it for the first time. It’s not great. Similar to the snes version aside from a few weird choices. The music in it is pretty great though
@@Dman3827 the guy who plays Rufio, the head lost boy with the red mohawk, in the actual movie
Those cherries look straight-up exactly like the cherries from the All-Stars version of Mario 2
The movies story is far from boring as it gets. It’s a classic! Bangerang!
I almost fell out of my chair when he called the movie boring. I think we watched completely different movies.
The music definitely stands out. In places, it sounds like if Capcom made Diddy Kongs Quest.
What are the odds the developer just said 'hey, we still have this game engine, lets build on it?' And that's why Skyblazer is a thing. Either way, I'm going to check that one out.
The Lost Boys raising their hands in defeat is a nice touch. In the NES version, Peter Pan simply knocks them to their deaths.
This is one of my all time favorite games. My parents bought it for me when it came out in 92. The music is incredible, so good that is probably the best aspect of the game. The story is great. Nice, clean graphics. And I completely agree... it moves soooo slowwww. Certain levels took forever because Peter Pan moves like a snail! But other than that it was really good. I still play it.
You can run in this game so i dont get the slow comment at all 🤔
I never played Hook but I always wanted to. It got a perfect score in Gamepro and they claimed "The music was so good you'll want to crack open the cartridge and see if there's a CD inside."
Never got my hands on it, though.
It's fantastic...
Dope game definitely good memories as a kid I been playing this on my phone get a emulator app .. Aladdin too good game
I remember back in 1993 when I purchased my Sega CD, I picked up this copy and was blown away by it. Funny thing is, I played the game before watching the movie. Hence when I saw the film, then I realized the music was not from the game. Nice touch though. Viva retro gaming!!!
I used to be able to beat this game in a half-hour flat, and its still one of my favorite games of all time
I beat this when i was 11 back in 93 some of my best memories in life
This game is a blockbuster gem man. I remember renting it twice to beat it.
Right? The OST is amazing!
Hook SNES was on my wish list as a kid, yet other games took precedent & ended up in my library.
This game has one of my favorite SNES soundtracks along with The Pirates of Dark Water and Battletoads in Battlemaniacs. Amazing!
Just beat this game on Genesis. It was pretty great. It got in some cheap shots at times, and the flying was obnoxious, but it never felt impossible.
I've never played this because I had Hook on NES and as a kid I thought they were the same game.
Wow. I had no idea. I like the way this game looks and I've had Skyblazer on my want list for a while now. I'm going to have to get this one as well, nice that its not too spendy... yet. Great vid!
well, hook came out first, so I doubt that =D
Matt Merrill Huh? You doubt what...?
The opening level with a montage of training done in 2d gameplay 😍
First game i ever beat. First game i honestly loved. I still love everything about it and think its wildly underrated/unknown/underappreciated.
"The movie's story is boring. "
I disagree
Me and my neighbour use to play the scene when rufio dies when a was like 5 yo i owned the golden sword from the movie as a toy
I don't know why but I really liked the Nes game when I was a kid and rented quite a few times. But I tried to play it recently and god it bad, it's hard as shit and just plain wierd...
I tried the Snes a while ago and was put off by how slow it was, but given your review I may give it another go sometime.
I played the Genesis game for about 20 seconds and was like... nope.
I didn't even know this game existed, but I have played Skyblazer. I'm going to have to check this one out.
I forgot about this game. I should have grabbed it the other day. I loved it as a kid.
Skyblazer was awsome, it was one of those Fridays everything good was rented out and I decided to try it and found me a gem
Got my snes for christmas of 92 and the two games I got was super mario world and hook.
I did play both this and the NES version, and both are fun.
I enjoyed playing Skyblazer, and I'm looking forward to giving this a shot at some point.
Hook was an awesome movie👍👍
GREAT VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!! game looks super fun, definately gonna give it a playthrough :)
I looooooved this game
It seems like if they would have just roughly doubled the speed at which your character moved, this game would have been a hundred times better...
I only ever played the arcade game of Hook. Pretty bad ass beat em up.
Snes drunk you are the goat!
Did you ever play the Gameboy version of Hook? It was one of the first games I owned, I thought it was really good when I was a kid, but I'm not sure how well it would hold up just based on my memories. It was a totally different game from this one.
I had it as a kid as well and I have still very good memories of it. It's really a great game.
love this game. So fluid
Why is this game is so rare in PAL regions? It's like £70 on ebay and only about 2 copies 🤔
Another great review! :)
this game is beautiful!
nice review man.. good to know its not shit. ill keep an eye out for this version.
There is a good hook game? Mind blown
Is there any difference between the Super Famicom edition of this game?
How does this compare to the Sega version?
Have you played the Hook arcade game?
I love the movie.
To be fair, Disney games were generally tons better than other licensed games for the most part
Hook wasn't Disney, it was Sony.
SNES DRUNK!
What song from the game starts playing in the final 5 seconds?
It's from the ice level. According to a post of the OST, the song is called "Neverland Tundra".
The video ID is /watch?v=HJzNj16zNF8
“1 of the only 16 bit games based on a movie that’s good”… um isn’t that an opinion??? 🤨
Has anyone played the Sega CD version? Just wondering how they compare to each other
SNES version has better graphics with transparencies and all that. Sega CD version has Danny Elfman's soundtrack, which is pretty good, and added (poor) voice acting. Personally I think the soundtrack sounds pretty good with the SNES and it matches the visuals better. But both are fine.
@@R1SKbreaker John Williams did the score for Hook, not Danny Elfman.
I'm unfamiliar with Hook. Is it an Atlantis underwater game?
I like the arcade game better
Slow. Molasses.
Hook game Sega genesis version is faster
Good? Let's not jump the gun. Memorable? Sure, but good is reaching.
Yeah I played through the game until the last level where I just lost interest. It's a pretty average game, and it's very easy and only takes about an hour to beat.
The NES version was complete and total garbage.
I saw Hook in the theater and didn’t like it
I hated the movie so I avoided the game. I used to see it advertised all the time in video game magazines at the time.
I reckon the developers were making a Soul Blazer 2, then Sony snapped them up and had them convert it into Hook.
bombjack didn’t you hear him say hook came out first.
Never liked this one.
avgn should review this travesty
i also created crappy games wiki on this link is here:
crappy-games.wikia.com/wiki/Hook
this game started the shovelware
this game is overrated
this game deserves to be panned by fans and critics alike
You're an odd duck.
just wait until angry video game nerd is going to make a review of this travesty
Man! Are you crazy?? This game is GARBAGE! Cheap deaths everywhere, horrenduous hit detection. Actually, I find every aspect os the game, except for the graphics and music, is bad. But ok if you like it, so.
Dude. Sometimes you got to tell us if it's an SNES or is it Nintendo or what the hell is it what console are you we talkin about
I played it not long ago. Worth playing today, but not incredible.
