agree, I know Australia has the whole digital identity mapped out, and we will need it to file taxes, start a business, receive pensions, receive medicare, go to school or college and many other government and council services. It will be impossible to live in your own home (to pay council rates) unless we have the identity. I'm assuming this will also cause problems if we want to sell our properties too. This is right around the corner. I was just in Sydney this weekend and couldn't believe how many new cameras were around, I would say 1 every 500m everywhere I drove. It was a relief to leave and know I was no longer 'watched' until I turned off the freeway and low and behold another new camera right there. Good documentaries on YT on who the homeless and drug addicts or ‘druggies’ really are and myriad of ways they end up there. They’re from ALL walks of life incl young families, military vets, kids escaping abusive homes/shelters etc. More addicts get that way from pain meds. Some are frontline responders jobless with PTSD from last two years. Less and less money to social pgms to help and since 2008 more big corps allowed to buy up properties and become corp landlords with many neg reports. A friend of friend from university worked to a high level in banking for yrs but for diff reasons sadly ended up in a men’s homeless shelter thankfully visited by friends who didn’t judge. My aunt died an alcoholic with many friends. Most shelters aren’t safe and partly why so many end up on the street.

Great talk. I'm from the U.S. and I love my country but it is in real trouble. The manor and ease withwitch it's citizenry has been lead to divide itself (outright media propaganda and social media algorithms) can only signal the beginning stages of a rapid fall. We can not stand...like this. There are many very wealthy people in the U.S. but the country itself is very poor. It owns very little. It is in massive debt, continues to manufacture money that creates inflation. Without income generating assets it's only option in "appearing rich" is to tax it's citizens to death. The political system has been exposed as a sham. After being liberated, dumb dumb citizens are niavely willing to oppress their fellow citizens thinking that their freedoms are somehow safe. When it comes to national debt and money printing, as bad as it is the US is doing no worse and is often better off than just about any other developed country. I think the division and the support for the extremist policies among young people is largely the result of decades of Russian and nor Chinese propaganda work, after the Cold War we forgot about the people waging propaganda wars against us, we thought we were above that. I think it also ties into the drunk driving problem we have in the states. I think cities think that if you are able to walk around with the beer you are then going to take it to your car. The real problem is drinking and planning to drive afterwards but somehow walking around with the beer got pulled into the law also. I think probably some of those laws are left overs from the prohibition era possibly. :)

We have different understandings of when a baby becomes a sentient living being, the edges of it drifting into philosophy and belief, so I think deferring to the states at least provides an outlet for people to live in a state that better aligns with their values. I will never understand those pushing for the “right” to kill a full term baby, but can see the possible justification of deferring to the states if it means averting a full scale civil war. At least one side believes it to be a life or death issue, and maybe part of the other side does too if they truly buy into the coat hanger cider house rules argument. LOL police state vibe in Bangkok? Been there many, many times and have never felt once anything close to that. You rarely even see cops in Thailand...

@ss Yup exactly lol. You will literally never get pulled over for speeding or anything like that. Can drive motorbikes on sidewalks, park more or less wherever you want, etc. and you will pretty much never see cops haha. Though I will say that Thailand has been VERY uncool about all the masking and "covid" nonsense. But that's a different story.

A fascinating discussion of "soft geopolitics" as relates to the nomad capitalist way of thinking about your life and maybe doing something about it. Seems like the shelf life of making a move suits people in their thirties, forties, fifties, and sixties as they are likely the ones with sufficient money and time to have thought through the geopolitical smorgasbord with enough depth of understanding to consider making a change. In the end, it seems like your tolerance for risk needs to be very high as countless-moving parts are at play.

We are all prisoners of circumstance. We should have the right to improve on those circumstances as best we can and try not to harm others in the process. Help others when possible.

Making a lot of money is not necessarily about capitalism. It's not communism either. It's more looking for a free market.

Abortion rights in the US depend upon which state you're in. Abortion "rights" were not taken away despite what Leftist hysterics claim. SCOTUS simply said the US Constitution says nothing about abortion one way or the other, and to say otherwise is a complete total overreach by the courts. So it's up to each state to decide democratically. The irony is that abortion laws in Europe are pretty much the same as in US states that are not strictly anti-abortion or so fanatically pro-abortion that they allow what is in effect infanticide up to the very moment of birth like NY State and California. If the European laws including in Scandinavia -- Norway is the exception -- were proposed in any US state, allowing unlimited up to on average 14 weeks, but afterward requiring doctor's permission or other restrictions, the same American Left who idolized European health systems would go apoplectic claiming The Handmaiden's Tale and life using coat hangers is upon us.

Ya its weird. never really understood why many mericans dont leave? On the other hand, so many people leave their country and move to other countries. In many countries, its taken for granted especially by their youth, that as soon as edu is over, they get a visa and go. But americans dont have that mentality. They have this notion that "everybody wants to come here so why should I go?" I guess that will change in a few years...
