You may have heard that games and applications perform better with dual channel memory compared to single channel memory, but why is this the case, and how much of an improvement can you expect?
In this comparison I’ve benchmarked 16 different games in a laptop at all setting levels as well as 9 different CPU benchmarks to show you the differences in performance and help you decide if you should buy or upgrade to dual channel memory in your laptop.
Check the full review of the P950EP that I was testing with in the video here: • Metabox P950EP Gaming ...
Update: I forgot to note that all memory was CL17-17-17-39

We love you jarrod
I dedicate this video to all macbook users with their soldered memory.

Jarrod'sTech Nice video although.
Thanks!
wowo satan calm down...
yes 2012, things has changed :E
Nice comparison..
My way to explain how Dual Channel works is:
-Single Channel is when you have a single straw going into a milkshake.
-Dual Channel is when you have 2 straws going into a milkshake.
You get double the milkshake with each sip in Dual Channel while you get "Bottlenecked" in Single Channel.
If you want to go further the Ram Speed is how fast you sip the milkshake and Ram Capacity is the size of the milkshake.
mmmm milkshakes 🥛
Nice Explanation
That actually helped 🤘
milkshake really brings all the boys to the yard
and latency? how often you sip the milshake?
This is the closest thing to a GPU upgrade that laptop users have.
Lol I'm watching this for exact same reason, I've 1x8gb ram, I am considering getting one more 8 gb ramstick
you could get an egpu box for 200 and get a rx 560 or gtx 750 ti and for 400$ you'd have a functioning gpu
@@Sectsoldier true, but you would also need a thunderbolt port, which a lot of laptops don’t have
@@soham7510 same but im broke to even afford a 40$ ddr4 notebook ram lol
@@kabilpanday6248 chill bro, 1 year and I have still not bought the ramstick
Wow, didn't expect the fps difference between single and dual was that noticeable, thanks for this informative video btw, had pondered on this few weeks ago and you made a video out of it!
Yeah me either, I was quite surprised while evaluating the results!
Well, it's not noticeable. You can't tell the difference between 167fps, and 146fps. But yeah, pretty cool to know this.
Very noticeable, upgrading single 8 GB ddr 4 to dual 8 GB ddr 4 is the best upgrade Ive done in my life
@@mattevans1643 but you can notice 30 FPS to 50FPS
@@mattevans1643 not true. Just upgraded for my dell g15 rtx 3050 r4 5600h from 8gb to 2x8gb, and the stuttering is gone. Those low 0.01%.
Btw sorry for the late reply.
Holy crap I never knew this thanks plz continue this type of videos.
Will do!
Good job Jarrod you always seem to have good ideas for videos
Thanks! A lot of the ideas come from reading the comments, people always want to see all kinds of different things, I have a never ending list of ideas to work through 😁
Any ideas what this performance info would mean for people with soldered ram in their laptop? If you had 4gb built in ram and need more than 8gb total ram do you just have to eat this performance hit?
Just realized you're at 25K subs! Congrats! You deserve it and more!
Cheers Matt!

Thanks! Welcome to the channel 😃
I recently upgraded my Aero 17 from 16GB to 32GB because I routinely have multiple Adobe CC apps open at the same time, plus web development apps, and I was getting close to the 16GB limit. I swapped out a 2400mhz stick for a single 2667mhz 32GB stick and saw a minor speed bump just from that. I've been tempted to get a 2nd stick to fill out the 2nd slot, but I couldn't justify going up to 64GB of memory, since my workflow doesn't really require it. But seeing those performance numbers jump from single to dual channel in you video is just the excuse I needed. Lol. I guess I'll be installing the 2nd stick tomorrow.
Thanks as always for clear concise info. This is in my opinion *the* top tech/laptop youtube channel out there.
Thanks! Nice, let us know how it goes with two sticks!!
Thanks for this, i have been searching for a good and in depth video that covers this topic for laptops.
No problem!
This is actually exactly what i have been searching for👍🏼
I hope it helped!
Good presentation and testing 😎👍
Thanks!
I was amazed by the result. Thank you very much for making such an informative video.
Me too! No problem 😛
This video was freaking brilliant!! Amazing how much of a difference this makes. I only today realised I had my desktop PC's RAM put in single channel on my motherboard. Changed it to dual channel and now very excited to get a performance boost in my games (I don't like playing at max settings and low frames, so medium to high settings are what I use).
Thanks! Yeah it's pretty crazy how much it affects results. Good to hear the upgrade helped!
@@JarrodsTech yeah, I can actually feel the difference when using the PC. Lol.
this is soo helpful i never knew about this such a big fps gain on low settings
Good to hear it was useful!
Was looking for this kind of video around month ago before I upgrade my MSI GE62 6QD with exta 8gb ram. Now I'm running 16gb in dual channel and I noticed a bit better gaming performance gaining few extra pfs and better lows. Happy with this decision.
Sounds like a nice upgrade!
Great videos. Very detailed. I'm looking for a budget gaming laptop and the only games I play are dota and Cs go. Thanks for these
Glad I could help!
Great video and explanation dude
Good video. I'm planning to upgrade my laptop ram but idk whether I should go for 16gb ram or 4gb ram, largely due to my laptop having 4gb ram soldered, so if I were to go for 16gb would it work as dual channel or single channel since it's not identical to the 4gb ram?
Great video, Jarrod! Like many others I didn't expect quite that big of a performance difference in games using a discrete video card. We've done a lot of low end gaming here using various NUCs and with Integrated Video, dual channel low latency memory is a requirement. When you're running low end, you need every frame you can squeeze out. Nice to know that it also makes a big difference in the upmarket gaming world!
Fantastic effort, clear, concise, I love your channel. More subs people!
Thanks Tom! Yeah I've heard that about integrated graphics but haven't had a chance to test it myself yet, maybe worth benchmarking in a future video!
Hi Jarrod, it's been two years! Do you think you may do an update video with a slightly different approach (i.e., unbalanced dual channel's performance)? I think A LOT of top laptops (G14, G15, legion 7 slim, M16, etc) we saw this and last year have one soldered RAM, meaning the upgrade path will be, say 8GB soldered + 32GB sodimm. Would love to know the performance of an unbalanced dual channel. Besides, I don't think anyone has posted anything like this yet!! If anyone can do it, it's you!
thanks for the video mate, your channel deserves more attention
Thanks Mohamed!
Awesome video mate ,I really enjoyed it!
Cheers!
This channel is the definition of quality!
Thanks!
hey Jarod
As you know that i am going for the Asus Hero 2 which i am pretty sure that it has a single stick of 16GB ram
will it made a difference if i add an additional stick of 4GB
To be honest I can't say for sure as I've never tested mismatching different sizes, in many cases people report that it works without issue, but it doesn't seem to be guaranteed and it is still recommended to use same size/speed for best compatibility.
Same i also have a single stick 16gb in my msi, looking forward adding another 16 eventhough 32gb of ram is supper unnecessary
Nice video....I have a doubt...will upgrading to dual channel memory effect battery backup?
Very professional analysis, thx for that great video!
Cheers!
Very good video. I would also prefer dual channel memory no matter what.
Yeah me too, some places charge a little extra but the performance definitely seems worthwhile.
This is literally true,I have GL65 with 8GB RAM. The performance of the entire system is bottlenecked (The Witcher 3 ultra Novigrad city - 50 high to 60 low fps ). I just ordered second 8 GB RAM chip (just about 30 bucks), and guess what, in the same condition I gain 10-20 fps. 16 GB dual channel (8x2) is the standard for a gaming PC
Nice! Yeah good gains for not much extra money!
Also, 8GB is a bottleneck now, 12GB is the new minimum.
I had a 1050ti, i7-8750h and 8GB RAM. RDR2 and Warzone were unplayable due to extreme stuttering. At first I thought it was just my GPU, but after some research, I decided to add another 8gb stick, so now I have 16 gb dual channel. I tested RDR2 and I experience NO stutter! Gameplay is MUCH better. My GPU isn't the best but biggest bottleneck was the RAM in this case
@@dufonrafal 12gb is 4+4 in dual channel +4 in single channel
It is much more practical and efficient to just get to 16gb ram with another 8gb stick
@@SamLoki 3 channels CPU are a thing, or used to be at least xD
Awesome, you just solved my issues as I have been suffered for a long time.
No problem, happy to help!
This is a crazy differences. Thanks for the vid
No problem! Yeah I was quite surprised while making it!
Thank you! I have been telling my friends for 2 years and they still did not believe me that Dual Channel helps in every configuration, i was telling them to get 2X 8GB instead of 1X 16GB ... I saw huge improvements in PUBG the suttering is non existent anymore and i don't get any fps dips anymore, it helped with avg. fps in every game that i play, i get a lot more fps now and there is no more stuttering and there are no more fps dips.
No problem! Sounds like you need to send the video to your friends 😁
My fps keep fluctuate is it because of single ram 32gb?
Damn that’s really worth it 👌🏻 literally huge difference 👍🏻
Yeah the results surprised me!
I've finally been able to get that second stick of memory for my Y540 i5 1660 ti. Crazy how many FPS you gain. Ghost Recon Wildlands at High preset 1080p gained roughly 15 FPS. Enough to step up to Very High :) Thanks for the video Jarrod! Best laptop RUclipsr!
Great video!
Hi my laptop has a single 16gb ddr4 2666 mhz ram.
Now I want to make it dual channel.
Will adding 8 GB ddr4 will do any good or I should add 16gb stick?
I don't want to spend unnecessarily.
I don't want to lose fps on single channel.
Yes same problem here
I think they need to be the same size. I haven't tested it myself, but I researched it and people that used different sized sticks reported that it was still single channel.
@@JarrodsTech can you test it sometime and let me know..will take a few minutes.
@@JarrodsTech i am going to buy hp omen 15 i7 8750H with gtx 1070 MaxQ design.
I am already losing fps and a single 16gb chip will hamper it
I don't have spare/different sized memory available at the moment so I can't test it currently.
I'm very glad I opted for 2x8GB instead of 1x16GB for my laptop when I upgraded from 4GB to 16GB.
Good choice!
Hii! Do the two ram sticks have to be the exact same speed in order for dual-channel to work?
@@seb.evidente7328 no. But both of the rams are going to work at slower rams speed. For example if you have 1 stick 2133 mhz ram and 1 stick 2666mhz ram they will both work at 2133 mhz.
@@yumurtake6927 Do the brands have to match? I'm on an Acer Nitro 5, I'm unsure about the brand of SODIMM ram my laptop came with, but I'm certain about the speed, if I buy say one stick of HyperX 2666 mhz will it work or should I ascertain the brand of ram that came w the laptop and match it?
@@seb.evidente7328 It should work but you should preferably have matching speed and timings, and matching brand is preferred too.

I think this one looks the best out of all the models I've checked out so far, some people seem to really be against the design though 😅
Hi Jarrod, I just want to say thank you for making this video anyway i really want someone advice for my problem, right now im using dell inspiron 7577 with 16gb 1 stick ddr4 ram.. so can i run dual channel by only buy 4 or 8gb ddr4 ram only? because buying a same 16gb ram will waste a lot of my money.. also what is the best brand suitable for my inspiron 7577? hope you can help me TQVM
Hey, no problem! If you currently have 1 16gb stick the best thing to do would be to add in a second 16gb stick of the same size and speed, ideally from the same brand as the existing memory for best compatibility. I'm not 100%, but I THINK you need the same size memory for dual channel to work, so 16gb+4gb or 16gb+8gb will probably not work in dual channel, you'll just increase the overall size.
@@JarrodsTech TQ for your reply, i see.. so the only way to make dual channel work is by adding the 16gb ram only right? sadly i wont buy cause is little bit expensive compare to 8 or 4gb ram.. BUT if i buy 8gb ram ddr4 with the same manufacturer and speed (2400mhz) as what i use right now will it turn the dual channel mode? cause on my country (Malaysia) ram is so expensive especially 16gb.. anyway TQ so much for your reply i really appreciate it, 😁
@@Amrie47 "BUT if i buy 8gb ram ddr4 with the same manufacturer and speed (2400mhz) as what i use right now will it turn the dual channel mode? "
no it doesn't, you need same speed, same size, same manufacture, same type....to make it become dual channel....if you have 16 GB stick right now, and want to get dual channel performance, the best way is either, buy another 16 GB stick, or sell you current stick, and get 2x8GB KIT RAM....

@@muhammederenkaradag3881 you can, but I won't recommend either. That's why KIT RAM is always recommended. Because of their 100% compatible.

Haha, I am actually 😛 still have my x58 triple channel machine under my desk from 2010.
I saw that from a previous vid. I used to own the Core i7 920 OCed to 3.8GHz. Probably the high point of my build was when I had a Radeon 4870x2 and a 4870 in Crossfire liquid cooled. That used to pull out so much heat that I used to use my computer to heat up my room 😂
Good stuff! I still have my 6990s lying around here somewhere 😂
ayy Nehalem master race
Like SLI for RAM! :D
Haha yeah I guess that's one way of thinking about it 😁
Not quite. This is because the CPU can access both channels of ram at the same time, so it is less like SLI and more like RAID 0.
Current SLI technology alternates between which cards render what frame at what time. This means that in SLI the two (or more) GPU's never work together to render a single frame, as this is the issue that DX12 Mgpu effectively solves.
Best video... I was thinking about this for a while.
Cheers! Me too, just took me a while to get the extra RAM require to do the test 😃

Didn't even realise, I had only one 16GB stick in my laptop. Guess what happened when I added a second one (matching everything)?? ... 35% more performance across many games, similar to this video!
Nice boost!
Because you went to 32GB?
Nice video! I’m thinking of upgrading my 8GB single channel RAM laptop to 16GB dual channel RAM! This video was super helpful and I know for a fact that I will definitely be upgrading my RAM!
Nice video Jarrod!! Do you plan on reviewing the new MacBook Pro?
Thanks! I don't think so, I have no way of getting one and I won't be buying one myself, so unless a friend buys one and I can borrow it it's probably not possible.

Thanks for the video Jarrod! Recently got the Asus Hero 2 with only 1x16gb of 2666Mhz RAM and was disappointed when I saw it performed worse than the benchmarks i was seeing online. So now I want to upgrade!
But my question is, do you think adding another 8GB stick would be enough, or do I need to add another 16gb to see more benefits? I don't need all that RAM but I don't know what's better know coupled with my current RAM.
I would appreciate it if you could enlighten me, thanks!
i got dual channel, and dont really notice much difference, but i did raise the fps cap from 72 to 144. i think its because of the games i play. realistically around 10-15fps better, but nothing special. on the bright side nothing got worse and i found it at a good price.
I know i am very late to the party, but isn't the Single and Dual channel RAM more important for onboard graphics ? (like Intel UHD and AMD Vega 3/8/10)
I've see videos with around double the performance in favor of Dual channel in games, but the videos are made by people with under 1000 subs and with no talking....
Any thought on that ?
Would adding another 8 gig stick of 1600mhz ddr3 ram to my 5 year old laptop (i7-4712HQ+GTX850m) improve my fps?
And if yes, by how much since you showed in the video that the most improvement is at the lower settings(in acc. to my gpu)
How about (2x4) vs (2x8)
The 2019 dell g3 has (2x4)
Can these improvements be seen even if gpu utilisation is at 100% as it is? If so what's the logic behind that
Nice work! I have a Helios 300 with 16gb ram, I will have some improvements with one more stick of ram?
@Claudiu 985 Yep! Totally worth it! I get 50fps more on BFV! Some games need dual Channel to work better
thanks for an amazing vid! Now I'm glad I run dual channel in my laptop :D
also this means... that Aero 15x which comes only with 1 stick... is seriously underperforming, and it;s ALREADY showing great results in games. Being overclocked, undervolted and having another 2666 stick of memory added it's performance should be even higher.
No worries! Yeah that's true, Matt in another comment talked about his performance improvement with the 15x going to dual channel a bit, if I end up getting that I'll definitely be upgrading it.
Nice charts, can I know wich software you're using to do it?

And these sticks are exactly the same? So same brand and same latency for the 16 GB and 8x2 GB?
Thank you so much for this video man!!! I had a single 16gb stick and added one more single 8gb stick from a compatible brand and my fps in benchmark for CPU limited games (Far Cry Primal and Rise of The Tomb Raider) went up by around 8-10 fps!! You would probably get even more gains with another 16gb stick (instead of the unmatching size 8gb), but it's pretty pricey and I'm happy with the performance boost!!
Good to hear you were able to boost performance!
I never know it will be this much gain, thanks for the insight. Btw how about 2400mhz vs 2666mhz ? Is there noticeable perf difference ?

I have a question i have a laptop with 8gb ram and i wanna add extra ram in second slot
Wouldnt be any problem if the CLs are different?(frequency and voltage and generations are same)
Hi Jarrod. I recently bought a laptop with only a single channel with an 8GB 2400mz memory. Is it worth the upgrade to 16GB? Since I am a total newbie with laptops, I was not aware that there are single and dual channel laptops.
Thank you!
Relatively new viewer here, looking at this old video is soo weird. You end each sentence in the same way it's trippy
Great video. Thank you. Do you think 2x8gb 2400 would still be better than 1x16gb 2666?
Cheers! Hmmm, I think it would be based on what I suspect, but I also haven't done any testing to confirm. I think the difference between DDR4-2400 and 2666 is less so compared to single vs dual channel, but just a suspicion.
Very informative, thank you.
Just one question - do the memory sticks have to be the same model/brand?
Will they be dual channeling if they're the same specs (DDR/volume/frequency/clocks) but different brands? I was definitely gonna upgrade from 8 to 16GB DDR4. We're gonna need more in the future, and Windows is becoming more and more bloated, which is leaves less room for everything else. Console emulation especially needs more RAM now.
Cheers! I'm honestly not exactly sure, I went from 2 to 4 sticks in my work laptop, and I just bought some random ones that were the same size/speed and have been fine for the last couple of years. I think if possible the same model would be ideal, but I think it's less of an issue these days as long as you've got same speeds etc.
Depends on your hardware and motherboard/bios. Some are a lot more lenient with different sticks. Some will do things like boot loop if the sticks do not match. I couldn't get an aero15x to boot with different brand sticks even though the timings matched as an example.
I actually have two sticks of 8gb from different brands running in dual channel. One from SK hinyx and other Kingston, same speed, size, frequency and latency. Works just fine. I can see in the laptop's bios that is in dual channel. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 7567.
In msi gf63 there is single channel 8gb ram so i need to add one more so searched on online its showing single channel and dual channel with same 8gb single ram plz help me to buy
Hey there, thank you so much for your videos. They're helping a lot!
Got a question left: if I had to choose between an integrated GPU and Dual-RAM (max 2×8GB), vs a dedicated GPU with 4GB VRAM but Single Channel RAM (max 1×16GB)... What would you recommend? I'm confused 😕
Obviously dedicated gpu with 4gb and single channel ram cuz most of the games are gpu bottlenecked
@@Dhruv_s12 Thank you! What if it comes with a dedicated GPU with 4GB VRAM and 8GB Single Channel RAM? (in comparison to the integrated and 2×8GB Dual).
@@_WonkaBar_ well dual channel ram will give u an additional 10 to 15 fps boost

And u can always add on additional ram to ur pc whenever u want
I have a rtx 2060 and an i5 10300h on the gateway creator series laptop.
The gpu is always underutilized using 30-50% of its power. Do you think it’s because of single channel 8gb of ram? Will 2x8 stick of ram increase performance a lot?
Thx for the video. Building up an itx built but the 2 slots are a big handicap for me which made it 2x8 or 1x16 stick with an option to later buy just another stick or having to buy 2x16 is quite significant. I'll go for the 1x16 but what are you guys prefs
Hmm if you really need more than 16gb I'd do the single 16gb option and upgrade later.
Hi, very nice video! Another important thing in the RAM is the CL, in the laptos is not good as well. I would to buy a new RAM stick for my MSI GE63 (1x16@2666) but I am indeterminated to pickup 2 new with a better CL(a lot of money for the ) or only a new one with the same (actualy CL17)... What CL uses the laptop of the review ? I need to take a decision :)
Thanks! At DDR4-2400 the timings were 17-17-17-39 with both, yeah it can affect results too, I used the same here and didn't look into adjusting timings but would like to also investigate that in the future 👍
I liked this video really good info in there. I would be kinda curious as to what would be better for gaming say duel channel 8gb memory or single channel 16gb memory.
Yeah there are a few more tests I could do like changing sizes, or speeds, like does dual channel 2133MHz beat single channel 2400/2666? Too bad memory costs so much, means I have to hope I get the sticks I need in review units 😰
My asus vivobook gaming has 8gb soldered. Should I add 8gb or can I add 16gb stick to the other slot?
I’ve got exactly the same specs you tested. I bought the laptop for Prepar3d flight simulator and I get horrible FPS. CPU and gpu run at maximum 30 or 40%. I’ve fixed and tried everything EVERYTHING, but this. You think the dual channel will help?
Why you tease meeee with a dell g7 thumbnail when the g7 review coming!!!! Lmao
Haha sorry, I forgot to take the thumbnail photo before sending the laptop that I tested with back, so the G7 was what I had available 😛 I'm working on the 3x G7 videos at the moment though, expect one this weekend, probably gaming benchmarks, then thermal testing next week followed by the full review.
Jarrod'sTech okay gotcha excited for those
a very good video jarrod and the results were suprising.may i know does 32 gb ram with (16 gb *2 sticks) vs 16gb ram (8gb ram * 2) have the same performance or the amount of ram also effect to the performance?
I would suspect so (haven't specifically tested that), I do have an older video comparing games with different memory sizes (2x 8gb and 4x 8gb so not quite the same) and the results were within margin of error ranges, most games/applications don't need that much, but in both cases you're taking advantage of dual channel speeds.
My Helios comes with 16gb single channel should I upgrade to 32 go dual channel?
Great topic, Jarrod :)
Since I have AN5 7300hq GTX 1050Ti 8GB(Adata) 2133 MHz.
Really planning to add Patriot Viper 16GB (2*8gb) 2400Mhz Cl15.
Any advice which is better value?
Thanks! To be honest I'm not too familiar with the different memory modules, I recently bought a G.Skill Ripjaws kit but that was just because my laptop (Aero 15x) has pretty limited memory module support, only 4 different types officially listed so wasn't much choice for me, my recommendation would be to confirm that what you plan on buying is supported just to be sure.
I just bought one stick with same i have on my fx553vd. I hope it works. Good infos man.
Good luck!
Hey bro,I need some help.
I'm running a i3-4130 ( dual core hylerthreaded @3.4ghz) and GTX 750ti
I have 8gb DDR3 1600mhz,if I add another stick, will the performance boost will be more, less or roughly equivalent to what you've benchmarked.
Love your content.Keep it up👍👌
Thanks! Hmm, maybe a bit less but I'd still expect an improvement. I think dual channel helps more once you have good CPU/GPU, at the point where the memory starts becoming a bottleneck.
Great video dude. Lines up with what I saw when testing a single channel Aero15x vs Dual channel GS65 - 1% lows in CPU intense titles were my biggest problem. Vermintide 2 was the hardest hit of the games I play to the point where intense fights were not fun on the Aero it was like someone dropped an anvil on my CPU, responsiveness dropped off a cliff. I prefer gaming on lower settings to get that smoother/higher framerate and for this it's dual channel all the way.
Gaming laptops should be shipping with dual channel ram, I get what Gigabyte is doing here trying to make it cheaper to upgrade to 32g for content creators. But for the vast majority of folks who will never use past 16GB this just inflates the price of the laptop unnecessarily.
Thanks! Yeah if I get the Aero 15x I'll definitely be looking to go dual channel, thanks for sharing your experience with that in the other comment! Yeah dual should be the way to go, or at least give us an option to pay a bit extra to get it if we want it! Razer at least seem to be advertising their Blade series as having dual channel, so that's good.
Great video thanks. There is a lot of misinformation out there. I have a dual channel board and only two of the four slots are currently populated in dual channel configuration. So if I want to upgrade later I would only need to buy two more memory sticks of the same capacity and speed as the other two, is that correct?
No problem! Yes that sounds correct, if all 4 are populated at the same size/speed all should be running in dual channel.
@@JarrodsTech Thanks Jarrod! According to Techquickie (yes Linus) and many other self proclaimed 'experts' on RUclips you would have to buy a quad channel kit for dual channel PC and it would 'probably' work, no guarantees though. According to my local PC shop (Netherlands, Europe) there is no such thing as special memory kits for multiple channels, just buy 4 identical RAM sticks and you should be fine. And if you already have two: buy another two that are the exact same. Glad you confirmed that, I wanted to be 100% sure before buying any more RAM because it is still quite expensive.

Hey jarrod, i have a laptop with 2 slot that has an 8 gb with 2666mhz running in single channel. What if add 16 gb 2666mhz to make it dual channel? Does it makes a different if i add 8gb 2666mhz compare to 16gb?
Wow never knew about this before. Thanks jarrod, a performance improv is an improvement indeed no matter what isnt it.
No problem! Yeah, especially if you have no other way of improving performance in your laptop if you've got soldered CPU/GPU this could be a nice upgrade.
Jarrod'sTech wow so fast reply, working hard early in the morning, eh? Take care man. Best wishes!
Cheers! 9pm here in Australia 😁
i have an asus rog strix 2 laptop with a single channel 16 gb ram? is it okay to add a 4 gb size of ram with the same frequency speed? to make it a dual channel?
bro I already have a 16 gb 2666,mhz in my acer predator helios 300 1660ti, but I want to upgrade to dual channel? which Ram card should I buy? What are the areas criterias should I focus on in order to assure a proper dual channel (2 * 16).
best channil benchmarking understanding keep it up
Thanks Ahmad! Will do 👍
@@JarrodsTech just little thing I have 8gb in one channil do I realy need to have the same ram size on the other channil like is it will work if I have in the other one 2 or 4gb and thaks dude
Yeah needs to be same size and speed I think, possibly same voltage if possible
@@JarrodsTech okay thanks man really
No problem!
I'm here bc dual channel memory dose any laptop turn on or project a monitor like instead of a gaming pc pls answer
Not sure what you're asking, sorry.
ik this is kinda late comment but.... if my laptop has 4gb of ram and ill add 8 or 16gb of ram, will it still run or have no issues??
hey jarrod good video !
should i sell my 16gb ram to get 2×8gb ram ? or just picking another 16gb ram on it ?
would it make any differnce if i have 2×8 or 2×16 ram ? i know its better than single i just wanna ask xD thanks
Thanks! Hmm probably depends more on whether you need 16gb total or 32gb. My current laptop has a single 16gb stick, I'm selling it for 2x 16gb sticks but that's because I want both dual channel and a lot of space for video editing.
But using a 8Gb plus 4Gb dual channel in a PCspecialist laptop exactly the same brand model and latency numbers will this be okay in dual channel with different capacities?
Thank you for your help....
Sort of, not ideal, but the first 4gb in use on the 8gb stick will run in dual channel but once you go above using 8gb in total expect performance loss, better off just getting 2x 8gb sticks if possible.
@ Jarrod'sTech can we achieve dual channel mode with different speed sticks ???? . 1333 vs 1600 both 4 GB sticks .
