When we were the Sick Man of Asia, we were called The Yellow Peril.
When we are billed to be the next Superpower, we are called The Threat.
When we closed our doors, you smuggled drugs to open markets.
When we embrace Free Trade, You blame us for taking away your jobs.
When we were falling apart, You marched in your troops and wanted your fairshare.
When we tried to put the broken pieces back together again, Free Tibet you screamed, It was an Invasion!
When we tried Communism, you hated us for being Communist.
When we embrace Capitalism, you hate us for being Capitalist.
When we have a billion people, you said we were destroying the planet.
When we tried limiting our numbers, you said we abused human rights.
When we were poor, you thought we were dogs.
When we loan you cash, you blame us for your national debts.
When we build our industries, you call us Polluters.
When we sell you goods, you blame us for global warming.
When we buy oil, you call it exploitation and genocide.
When you go to war for oil, you call it liberation.
When we were lost in chaos and rampage, you demanded rules of law.
When we uphold law and order against violence, you call it violating human rights.
When we were silent, you said you wanted us to have free speech.
When we are silent no more, you say we are brainwashed-xenophobes.
“Why do you hate us so much﹖”we asked.
“No,” you answered, “we don't hate you.” We don't hate you either. But, do you understand us?
“Of course we do, ”you said, “We have AFP, CNN and BBC's ······”
What do you really want from us?
Think hard first, then answer ······ Because you only get so many chances.
Enough is Enough, Enough Hypocrisy for This One World.
We want One World, One Dream, and Peace on Earth.
This Big Blue Earth is Big Enough for all of Us.
    From Adrian Fu

You have performed wonders in a short time, but there are many who will just go on talking in a negative way about Your Country, They envy Your achievements or the power of the Party over the economy, well You know, You are used to it. Just keep on developing Your Country, and trade with whoever wants to trade with You. I know many Chinese are very polite, especially in Official situations or in relations with foreign Delegations and so on.Often, when criticized , Your Leaders or delegates will often just say something like "we will take that under consideration". I think You should tell us what You think we are doing wrong, more often, thus sending us a signal that You will not take too much of our "lecturing" You!!! I am sure You can do it in a calm and civilized manner, otherwise westerners will just go on pestering You with the same old verses.

What a take down piece... Please at least have the humility to consider that your cluelessness when it comes to the function of Chinese political system doesn't equate to the system's dysfunction.
"Arcane language and unreformed political system"? After watching the assembly in full, very little of his report present "arcane language" to me. And except for China's refusal to adopt Western form of democracy, reformation has made tremendous progress in China. If this were a decade ago, the report will likely also mention the number of people in poverty, the lack of modern infrastructure and the country's economic uncertainty. But it seems like their list is getting shorter.
"unwieldy title"? Sounds like it's time for you to learn Chinese.

Mao zedong killed tens of millions. He created policies that led to the great famine, he instituted an authoritarian regime in which he ordered the execution and death of landowners who refused to give up their land to his government, he ordered the deaths of those who spoke out against the government or who he saw as political rivals, his men were known to bind the hands and feet of people including children and throwing them in rivers for as little as acknowledging they were starving, 3 million commited suicide. There are records that he kept himself where he forced a father to bury his own son alive for stealing a handhul of rice.
      Xi jinping is currently committing genocide of the uhygurs, imprisoning them for having a different culture than the one he expects the Chinese to have. In these camps, rape is a common occurrence, starvation and suicide are everywhere, and people are systemically murdered.       Christ on a donkey. Here we go;
After China lost the First Sino-Japanese War, Taiwan became a Japanese colony.
Political chaos followed as the Qing Dynasty died a slow death, ending with a military uprising that began in Wuchang in 1911. The Republic of China was founded in Nanjing on March 12, 1912 with people's hero Sun Yat-sen as President. He soon ceded power to military leader Yuan Shikai, who named himself Emperor (1915) and whose death (1916) sparked the dissolution of China into warlordism. Japan and the European powers maintained their spheres of influence until they lost faith in the KMT.
Nationalist and anti-colonialist sentiments flared during the May Fourth Movement, which began at a protest after the Treaty of Versailles did not return to China the province of Shandong, still under Japanese control.
In 1931, Japan seized the northeastern province of Manchuria. Manchuguo was set up as a puppet state for Japan, headed by Qing heir Puyi (upon whose autobiography The Last Emperor was based). In 1937, Japan invaded China, sacking the capital Nanjing. Japan exerted military control of significant areas of China until the end of the Second Sino-Japanese War in which the KMT put in the majority of the effort suffering large casualties, with the communists predominantly engaging in small scale guerrilla actions (part of World War II) in 1945, and the Chinese Civil War ramped up again.
In 1949, the Chinese Communist Party emerged victorious over the KMT. The founding of the People's Republic of China, "Liberation," consolidated control of mainland China in the hands of the CCP.
Britain returned Hong Kong and Portugal returned Macau to the People's Republic of China in 1997 and 1999, respectively. So now you know.
      Japan has never ruled China.

It's more accurate to ask what we've experienced and what we've been influenced by, then it is to ask who we follow. Imo, a great leader can be a result of an event, where people have experienced more hardship or challenges then necessary, and someone guide them, creating opportunity and turn challenges to possibilities. He or she can create opportunity. A follower of a great leader on the other hand is someone who learn from history where the populace have not, and to some degree follow past leaders as a guide.
As for Xi and other recent leaders, I don't see anyone needing to follow Mao. Understand that Mao lived in desperate time where everything was falling apart. Imo, all the recent leaders wants, is somewhere along the line of, not wanting to let our ancestors down by bringing the country back on their feet. Chinese, from Confucius's influence, naturally feel a sense of responsibily for ourself and for the people whom we are responsible for. When you have parents that not only love you, but dedicate a big part of their life for you, it's quite natural for the unselfish person to want to give something back, and also to feel some sense of responsiblity.
Also, ask yourself whether China is ready for certain things. Imho, the west have made many modern mistakes, but they are more capable of bouncing back from it because they've had time and experience to. China imo needs to better understand their past, particularly from the Spring and Autumn period to the Han dynasty, so that they can be prepaired for the future, thereby preventing future mistakes. As for globalising, humans are already having enough difficulties understanding one and another as it is, so without a foundation to secure us, we can easily end up like the alt right and antifa on a world scale. Potentially, the next half of the century, with Chinese influence, countries that haven't seem to benefit from western influence will benefit much further. Potentially, the future should be quite good with more countries contributing and adding more to this world.

as of right now he is not as bad Mao. but at the same time he is consolidating power and making himself harder and harder to remove Should he start shit.
he seems to be tackling pollution perhaps but at the same time we do not know how much of it is distorted. Even if countries like the USA, european countries, and canada, information gets distroted. The fact the government in China is so restrictive makes it all the harder to determine what is the truth and what isn't. I would say he is lying bout a shitload of things because there is no one who can safely criticize the government from the inside.
They are developing a dangerous and familiar standard right now. In fact i see parallels to putin's rise in power. best i can say is that Xi does not have his opponnents straight up assassinated, but he does threaten and harass them, and arrest them.

Kudos for the commentator’s correct pronunciation of “Beijing”, which CNN, FOX NEWS, ABC, CBS and NBC have bungled since Nixon opened the door to China 45 years ago. Fewer Kudos however for Mr. McDonnell’s limited insight into the policy and thinking of Xi Jin Ping, whose campaign against political corruption is unparalleled in Chinese history. BBC needs to rethink its views on this leader and give it another go.

China at the lead of the communist party is definitely safer and more restrained than controlled by popular will. In fact, if China has undergone democratic reform, the government elected will be more aggressive and nationalistic, because in developing China there are more people who are restless and unhappy than those who want to lead a peaceful life.
Xi‘s leadership is just apparently strong, while his actual domestic appeal is far weaker than Mao Zedong, or even compared to Jiang Zemin, so it's not exactly dictatorship. In fact, CPC cares the will of Chinese people just as much as western country, maybe more when it comes to those underprivileged people. Certainly China will reform its political system, but not at present. Now the country needs stability, considering the shadowed economic condition.
Trust me that China's previous politics is a deeply thought choice. Does the world want to see a chaotic China?
