This scene is so emotional. I even cried, when ever I watch this scene. And the other scenes with Penny made me really cry. I even cried at the end, when Penny found parents who wanted to adopt her. I found that to be really emotional. But I was happy, her dreams came true. She wanted for nothing - As in she wanted a loving home, with loving parents. I'm watching this, and started crying. xxxx
Proves to show in this scene that it is not only dogs who can be man's best friend. This is one of my favourite Disney films. Very underrated The Rescuers is.
_"Faith...is a bluebird... you see from afar. It's for real and as sure as the first evening star..... You can't touch it or buy it or wrap it up tight.... but it's there, just the same.... making things turn out right."_ *- John McIntire as Rufus the Cat* The Rescuers gave me a lot of peaceful memories... 😭
even as a kid, I always though of a human Rufus as a Janitor that loved kids more than his own life, as if he couldn't have kids and yet loved them unconditionally.
I don't remember seeing this film as a child but I recently found it on netflix. This scene gets me every time. For anyone who has been down on faith, this scene hits home.
I love Rufus. I love him. I wish he was my friend, because he would make such a great friend. That I could talk to about anything. And he would not think I was weird at all. Infact he would be better towards me, more so then other people. Except my mum, whose great aswell. What does everyone else on here, think about this? xxxx 😊 😊
Oh gosh, when the music kicks in at the bluebird part... It's amazing how different this particular movie is as an adult. You feel the intensity and depth of Penny's circumstances on a whole new level.
You sadly do not hear her laugh much in this movie. Cannot blame her. But she was happy and smiling and I am sure laughing in the end, probably telling Medusa to take that.
I like this movie alot. No one really appreciates the classics anymore. All I hear about is Frozen or Big Hero 6. Movies like this and The Fox and The Hound blows them both out of the water in my own opinion.
"Faith, is a blue bird, you see it from afar, is for real and asure as the first evening star, you can't touch it or buy it or rapid up tight, but is there just the same making things turn out right" -Rufus
I'd certainly adopt Penny if I could. Girls like her need lots of love and cuddles. I love people of all colors! Children are the most wonderful thing Mother Nature can give us all!
My emotions ; __; ♡ What gets me is that cats really are like this.. Even though they can't talk, any cat I've ever had has been there for me and knows when I'm sad. Gotta love good 'ol Rufus
Given how the scene as a whole played out, I don't think he needed to. On top of that, she yoinked him off to supper so quickly, I don't think he had a chance to!
Faith is a bluebird you see from afar. It's for real and as sure as the first evening star. You can't touch it, or buy it, or wrap it up tight but it's there just the same, making things turn out right. 🧚🏻♂️🧚🏻♀️🧚✨ One of the greatest inspirational messages in a Disney movie!!!😃
Out of all Doug Walker's Disneycember reviews this one I absolutely disagree with. Calling it boring to the 'obviously' superior thrilling, adventurous Rescuers Down Under and the girl an obnoxious Olson twin designed only to be 'pwecious.' Alright that makes me mad. So his list of priorities of kids need saving seems to be how 'cool' the kid's skill sets are, how capable they already are, and if the kid can ride a giant eagle. A girl with nothing outstanding not worth bothering? Has he not seen the Rufus & Penny scene about how she was looked over by mere 'prettiness' of another? Could the same be said if the girl had a 'cool' skill or trick? That kind of mentality fuels the apathy that which Medusa used to kidnap a girl no one would even miss. You know what, if there's one group of people that can unapologetically be called Mary Sue its orphans, because they genuinely can't help themselves. They little to expand on their lives are being stifled by the lack of a central parental figure with no guidance or direct love, nothing to do but wait for it indefinitely. Mary Sue as an end result for an adult character bad and boring, but an unfortunate circumstance for an adolescence to be saved from, a necessary drive.
I occasionally have weird dreams that involve Medusa and snoops in them. Hardly penny is in them, for some reason. Anyways me and Mr snoops are on good terms, while only Medusa is the antagonist to me and most others in the dream. Isn't that weird?
It's just really sad in general when little kids immediately feel bad about themselves just because someone else was seemingly "better" than them.😢 Penny admitting her feelings made me think of toxic teachers I painfully dealt with back in my day who tried to make me feel ashamed for not being "smart enough" like their favorites. Being a favorite student would not have mattered in the first place because all that BS I dealt with in their classrooms is not what I wrote on my resume when I got hired at my former and current job. If anything they set an example of how I'm never supposed to behave by the time I got hired.😌
Well disney is kind of screwed up. Instead of building greatness from what disney was formerly known, they choose to sidetrack and impress scoundrels and evildoers. They never understood the concept IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT. what they could have done was improve upon it. Story wise and wholesome family concepts. Wholesomeness and Godliness was what most of the cartoons stood for back then like the rescuers, robin hood, pinocchio and many more. i bet ya Walt Disney would be very angry and disappointed if her were alive and still kicking it.
so sorry it's so small....so lonely.....she has no father nor mother, the only cat, and her missing love, and care, but she did not despair. So scared to be alone in this world without relatives and especially without parents
Still makes me bleary-eyed after all these years. Can anyone please tell me what Rufus says at 2:12? Spelt phonetically, I'm hearing 'rand-a-go-shun' but that doesn't sound quite right... Please help.
Ok everyone, panic over. Turns out, after extensive research, that Rufus says: 'Land O Goshen' which is a southern term used to express surprise, excitement or glee. Thank me later.
I believe that Walt himself would have voiced Rufus if he was alive then (although I don't think he liked cats very much), as well as the king in The Prince and the Pauper.
"A man & lady picked the red-headed girl"..... If Penny was in the same orphanage as Little Annie, Penny should be lucky that the "couple" didn't picked her.
Before Penny was Finally adopted, its Definitely easy to see that her life was Devastating and Awful because 1.Its Heavily suggested that she never Knew her birth parents probably because they passed Away when she was still a baby 2.For Three Months She lived In Hell while living with Madame Medusa who is the Complete embodiment of the Devil,Her two crocodiles Brutus and Nero and Snoops 3.Gets Psychologically Abused By Medusa, Nearly Died a few times in devil's Bayou 4.She doesn't seem to have many friends and even if she did most of them wer adopted before her 5.She was absolutely certain that no one would ever want to adopt her due to how insecure she was 6.Aside from her teddy Bear ,her only REAL friends wer Rufus, Bernard and Bianca
I swear, if the cat would have said, "I love you too", I would have killed myself. They must have realized adding that would just send most people into fits of hysterical sobs.
Penny looks like Shanti from the jungle book 10 years earlier. Like why did Disney bother reusing and recycling old animations and character designs. That's my only detractor of the movie because some of these materials were very familiar it's distracting. But of course she is a different character that has dealt with hardship from an abusive medusa
I'm a grown 27 year old man and this scene kills me every time. When she turns away from Rufus when he tries to comfort her.... good god.
this is why i wish animals could talk lol they're always so helpful with great advice for people in disney films ♡
Faith IN Jesus you can
They’re better than Dr. Phil
"Keep the faith sweetheart"
dawww 😢😢😢
To this day, this part always makes me cry. I love The Rescuers. It's so much better than Frozen.
The song some1's waiting 4 u..MAKE'S ME CRY.!!.
Why is this never talked about or has characters in video games such as kingdom hearts? I never understood that.
It still makes me cry too..
This makes me feel sad. I'm actually crying watching this. I love her. Bless her little soul. 😢😢
I agree
I'd adopt penny in a heartbeat!
Yeah same here
I rewatched this on Disney+, this scene hit so much harder now than it did as a kid.
I'm watching this, and started crying. xxxx
What Medusa said to Penny was very crooked and unclean.
Proves to show in this scene that it is not only dogs who can be man's best friend.

+SuperTed19021 Or in this case a little girl's best friend :) lol
agreed!
how could anyone not want her? 💔

oh that sweet voice breaks my heart every time!!!
The music, the characters, the story, and the articulate drawings....Beautiful in the most truthful way.
I don't remember seeing this film as a child but I recently found it on netflix. This scene gets me every time. For anyone who has been down on faith, this scene hits home.
I re-watched both Rescuers movies the other day and realized how much more of a compelling character Penny is than Cody.
"They chose the little red headed girl, she was prettier than me.." so sad! 😢
Penny is too adorable
Only extra special parents deserve you, penny 💜
I love Rufus. I love him. I wish he was my friend, because he would make such a great friend. That I could talk to about anything. And he would not think I was weird at all. Penny is one of my favorite Disney girls!!
ღGaming-Fairy ღ what a good little girl ❤️ I just wanna tell her everything will be okay
Mine is darla from finding nemo, she's so sweet with animals XD
This is a masterpiece.
Penny finally found a mum and dad in the end.
Poor Penny. I'm so glad she's adopted and safe. She is really special, like Rufus said.
I'm not crying, you're crying.
When I was a child I never thought it weird the cat is wearing glasses
No I'm 31 and have only just come to that realisation myself about 30 seconds ago!!!!
Gotta admit makes me remind of my own cat Mittens. Always comforts me when I'm in a down mood.
When Penny talks about the little red headed girl and Rufus's face starts quivering it breaks my heart every time 💔
Also the sadness in her voice. She must feel so unloved...

I'll adopt you Penny, I'll be your father.

Hooray for Rufus, he rescued Penny from the orphanage as seen in a flashback scene of The Rescuers.
I'm guessing Penny would rather spend her life with Rufus than with Brutus!
Rufus is like a grandpappy cat
My heart sank for the first time in years
Rufus: "You're something extra special."
Penny: "No, I'm not."
Heartbreaking...

Rufus is the best. Ever.
So beautiful, so touching so lovely.
I really wish Rufus had said "I love you, too" after Penny told him she loved him.
Given how the scene as a whole played out, I don't think he needed to. On top of that, she yoinked him off to supper so quickly, I don't think he had a chance to!
Penny's teddy bear has got the appearance of Winnie the pooh
cutest scene in the whole movie!

I watched this movie once when I was like 5,then I was 16 the next time I watched it.I rembered this scene better than any other in the movie.

This sequence was animated mostly by Ollie Johnston, with a few scenes at the start by Chuck Harvey, and the bird by Bob McCrea.
Right in the feels.

legendary scene!
I sob so hard every time
I saw nothing homely about Penny.
Same here Medusa is just jealous.
Medusa jealous? How?
Because she calls penny ugly but keeps putting all these glamorous things on her to try to make her look good, while at that scene she is ugly.
I see.
Oh definitely. You see that she is jealous as an adult!
Beautiful.
Sooooo cute!!!
I would do anything for that cat
