Kenan:) Just watched an old tour of the kamp. You had just got your first pond in the front of your house. I enjoy watching your videos, I truly love your channel/content. You have done so much upgrades in the last year. It's going to be so fun to watch all the upgrades in 2020. I cant even imagine what the kamp will look like in just another year. I'm excited for you :) You have my dream yard. Wish I lived in a place warm enough to have big tortoises roaming around my yard :) Iv learned so much from you Thank you kenan!
Hey Kenan! I work with diamondback terrapins at a university breeding project that's been running for ~15 years. The truth is, all diadmondback terrapins are succeptible to several different varieties of fungus in captivity. Now, the superficial fungus that often forms during winter and remains very superficial is generally nothing to worry about and will vanish once they get more sun and heat, especially with a little salt. Over-the-counter antifungals can also work just fine for this fungus. However, the fungus that affects their shells and bones (it becomes soft and necrotic) is far, far more pernicious and needs aggressive internal and external treatment. You are right that terrapins raised in brackish water are more vulnerable -- especially wild-caught. By the way, the life-cycle of these terrapins makes them incredibly vulnerable to illegal collection for the wildlife trade, most commonly in the form of poachers capturing females in the nesting season and inducing them to lay eggs using oxytocin -- or just digging eggs up once laid. Because of this, even if you see eggs in incubators and adult females, its impossible to know if your hatchling came from a captive female or a clutch of eggs that should have been replenishing the wild population. Because of this inability to determine "legit" terrapin hatchlings from illegally sourced ones, I don't consider them an ideal pet species. The few cases that have been prosecuted have all revealed the poachers to have sold thousands of eggs for millions of dollars -- and that's just those that get caught. If you see this and you love diamondback terrapins (and happen to live on the east coast!), see if there's a volunteer organization near you doing highway patrol! Even mother terrapins who have been hit by cars can have their eggs extracted and incubated -- and then released to help wild populations. :)
Thanks for the comment! We did a video with our friend chris Leone in NJ about diamondbacks and all the conservation work he’s done for them:) need more folks like you!
Question? Is that a original, old school Moto Mag shirt or a reissue? I had Moto Mags on my Mongoose when I was 12. I thought I was THE MAN! Haha! I’m 52 now BTW. I’m also the caregiver of a rescue green iguana 🦎 She was a bit feisty when we got her last year but she has grown to accept us and knows that we are here to love and help her. Love the channel. Keep up the great work brother
First thing that comes to mind is the Komodo dragon, but something tells me that they can't be owned as pets due to the endangered species status.. Next guess would be another large monitor lizard like a Nile Monitor, Savannah Monitor, or Rock Monitor, though the Emerald Tree Monitors are gorgeous.
You make me want to move to Florida so I can have all the reptiles that I love! I'm in Delaware and it gets too cold. Of course I could have some in my home, but I love the larger ones and would prefer to be able to give them a more natural environment.
Tammy Moor you can hit my home any time you want I live with my parents but it's alright with them as long as you help with the reptiles, are you into turtles and iguanas??
I think you should put a vision blocker between the rhinos and slinky only because I feel like slinky freaks out the females because of his size compared to them
Ahh, Diamond Backs. Some of the nicest terrapins around. Had my share while living in SC and NC. Miss them down here in MX, but I will gladly take the heat and no cold ever to not miss them so much. Good video. Thanks.
Guessing a alligator even tho a komodo dragon would be nuts or im sorry i dont know much about monitors some one tell me what this is but ive seen on RUclips super colorful monitors like green and orange it was on Brian barczyks vlog with some monitor breeder dude but maybe kyles water monitor comimg back at this point im just ranting but let's see if anyone actually reads this far ur a legend
You do a great service for a lot of folks. With that I would like to mention however, that it is totally possible to get skin fungal infections in Malaclemmys that were raised in fresh water. I happen to have some adults right now hatched in captivity and raised in freshwater with fungal problems. Keep up the great advice and doing what you do.
I'm just wondering , your giving advice on husbandry but why do you not have a visual blind so Slinky cant see and try to get to the animals you have housed around him ? Is it you that your Iguanas are trying to get away from or Slinky
Apatosaurus, pretty sure that's what it'll be. The video made me wonder, aren't you always paranoid now that slinky will grab someone by the tail and pull it through the mesh?
Love this! I recently started my outdoor/ hunting and fishing channel but ever since I started watching you, I’m filming more of my large tortoises and animals! Thank you!
I know kenan you dnt wanna spend it, but if gerg the pond builds slinky a pond with waterfall in there or may be new enclosure it just would be mind-boggling...
Well with a hide box we know it's not an aligator or croc so it most likely will be a monitor of some kind since it is big. It would be amazing if it were a Komodo Dragon.
Awesome info Kenan. The freshwater salt should also benefit the fish in fact, all depending on how much is needed to correct the fungal issue on the terrapins. Do you gradually increase the dosage to correct the fungus? Or maintain a certain amount?
Ive yet to find a video from you that I dont greatly enjoy, coming from a fan who's been watching back a lot of older footage! My girlfriends even getting me an Akubra hat for Valentines :)
if it stays the same as it was before he stopped doing lives on RUclips, They'll be people who have donated money to the kamp. On patreon you spend X (i havent looked in a while so i dont remember how much) amount of money and you get a shout out and a few other things i believe. Im not entirely sure how its done now though
Could you give some advice about how am I supposed to set my 5 females red ear sliders??? Since they have been growing up together since they were very little
Shelly B slinky Asian water monitor croc monitor is the longest monitor because tail is long there aborial really big teeth too definitely never wanna get bit by one
Kenan:)

Hey Kenan thanks for the info. Fungus can be an important issue for any reptile, esp. aquatic species.
I hope to get turtles later on in life.
Awesome info Kenan. The freshwater salt should also benefit the fish in fact, all depending on how much is needed to correct the fungal issue on the terrapins. Do you gradually increase the dosage to correct the fungus? Or maintain a certain amount?
