Yeah I totally understand where you’re coming from. When you paddle out it looks way bigger and this still gets me every time, it takes me a while to pluck up the courage but if I had a surf buddy we would probably push each and get over the inner fear and learn to trust our skill level. Love the look of the right hander. Ant you surfed the right really well on the first wave you showed us. Great insight from Ant surfing reef for the first time, thanks for the video guy’s. My dream is to one day get there 🤙🏽
Hey Ant - re: wave pools I think you spot on… the beginners will do well there versus the reefs and crowds of places like Indo … keep those for intermediate/advanced
Hey Ant, I've had similar experiences on surf trips. My head has prevented performance. I paid a lot of money & travelled a long way to then disappoint myself. I'm not sure how to navigate this. I hear what Clayton is saying, but it's hard. I am at the point now where I don't think I'd do another trip.
Great tips on surfing reef 🪸 thanks Clayton! And I’m glad to hear that the psychology of surfing reef is a thing. I get pretty nervous when I see the reef and I’m relieved to hear it’s not just me 😂❤
If you sit next to a person who surfs better than you, you tend to surf better too, if you feel confident, not competing with them but trying to emulate their positioning, i find that helps me improve, i will have a chat with someone and almost gravitate towards them, having a drive to improve i wantnto understand/copy what they are doing, where they sit etc
How would / did the midlength go? I'm planning on taking as my main board the 6'6 midlength that Clayton just shaped for me when I go on my next surf trip to Simeulue in June. Maybe my only board... Opinion? Just want a fun surf trip 😊
Haha. First time i paddled out in the 90's i had 170 puls. Only in shorts. Omg. 🎉🎉 . Very steep learning curve

priceless 👏
the wave seemed like it got a couple feet bigger after you got Barreled.=)
At 42:00, Clay to Ant: "Curb your enthusiasm." 🙂
Surfing is riding waves and not a liquid gymnasium. Be cool and enjoy the ride.
When's the next trip??
How do you handle shallow reef break when you end up standing on the ledge and sets breaking overhead ?
I feel that’s when I need the booties
