Wicked: Part One is possibly the most anticipated film of 2024. Have you been looking forward to it? Are you going to see it? Let me know what you think!
I went in as just a secondhand fan and was really concerned about the part 1 thing. I didn't feel the runtime and felt like the ending snuk up. And I've been totally geeking out about it since seeing it. As a guy I don't feel the feminist themes as powerfully as my superfan wife but having grown up and lived most of my life on the wrong side of history, I really resonate with the themes of complicity with authoritarianism. So I for one really liked how they developed the social elements of they play in line with the later Oz books by Baum and the Maguire novel.
It’s worth it. It will be one of those social moments that the media jumps on. Try to go in with lower expectations and it will likely be something you really enjoy or love. I don’t usually clap at movies, but everyone around me clapped and cheered at the end. Let me know if you go. I’m curious what you think of it
She was amazing. What I loved about the way Jon Chu directed her and Ariana was how Glinda shined, intentionally outshining everyone through so much of the movie (which is the point of the story in many ways), but we also see Cynthia's character slowly building bit by bit as she gains confidence in herself and her power at school in addition to her personal growth as she gets to know the professors and the other students. This really matches the book so well. I thought it was brilliant how she held herself back so that Elphaba could grow on screen. She really understood her character. The impact of that careful growth of her character made the final scene absolutely breathtaking. I think every director should watch this film for a masterclass on how to grow a character.
Hah! You would not be wrong. The trailer is a bit over the top on the cheese factor, but the film is good. If you aren't keen on musicals, it might not be fore you. However, if you're okay with musicals, you might like it. 🙂 ... despite the cheesy trailer.
Even as someone who generally merely doesn't mind musicals and just a secondhand fan of the play, and no real connection to the 1939 film or novels by Baum, I really enjoyed it. All I remembered from seeing the play a decade ago was the twist at the end so I'd been really concerned about the part 1 thing. But it was much more Empire Strikes Back than Deathly Hallows part 1.
Ariana did amazing
She was amazing. I knew she was a talented singer, but I had no idea that she could sing like THAT. Her voice was beautiful.
@ honestly!! ❤️
Elphaba is how you write an anti hero. A misunderstood villain
Yes! This is exactly right. She isn't necessarily a villain. We just don't understand her. I love this comment. Thanks!

Yes. Just saw it.
@@trionboy What did you think?
Was very on the fence about seeing this movie. I may have to now, though!

That's another one on my bucket list for Nov 22th
I think you’ll like it. I was in a packed theater and everyone cheered and clapped at the end. I can’t remember the last time I saw that happen
I can’t wait to see it!!
I can't wait for you to see it! When you do, please let me know what you think!! ☺
How was it
I’m sorry, but Cynthia Erivo was the real star and standout of this film. She’s truly brilliant.

I saw the trailer and it looks like a cheesy mess.

@@j.f.fisher5318 I love your comparison!
You’re really cute
Awww. That is so nice of you. Thank you for the compliment.
I'd rather watch paint dry than that cheesy rubbish.
Fair enough. 🙂 Musicals aren't for everyone.
