8:10 "an amenity rich neighbourhood with several strip malls" Great... that's sooo appealing. What's more appealing is turning those strip malls into mixed use buildings with parking on the back or side. Even if it's retail on the first floor, with offices on the second and third floor.
no downtown, or north or east. Best areas are windermere and terwillegar, but they are more expensive. But trust me, it is worth the money. especially if you have kids and elderly.
Came here to say this. I moved to Edmonton with my family (Strathcona) and half of these areas are awful. There are so many drug addicts everywhere that I don’t even feel safe going out in broad daylight. I’ve been chased multiple times.

I would want to move to an area not too far from West Edmonton Mall restaurants and shopping, spots to walk and bike ride. Condo or penthouse. Great for someone buses bikes or catch cabs. Around 25 years old to 35 years old for area. Which of these 10 places are eliminated because of this? Thanks for this video!
Glenora = 100 years of enforced blandness. Summerside is just more sprawl, and the lake is there to minimize storm drainage demands. South Edmonton Common is just your generic big box tumour. Riverbend is 1970s sprawl. And... okay, you just recommended Windermere. I will stop taking you seriously now.

Did you name any Northern areas? If so I didnt catch it. I'm moving to Edmonton soon to work at the military base. Because of its location I was planning on buying in the Northern part of the city. But your video pretty much makes it seem like North Edmonton isnt a great place to live.
@@maestroadam I've certainly been scouting houses in St. Albert too. However, the places that I tend to like a little more on Realtor.ca are all in North Edmonton. It'd be helpful to know (as I have never been to Edmonton) whether or not they're in good or bad areas. Since the video only mentions south and central locations, it makes viewers like myself assume North Edmonton is sketchy. Is that the case? Are some areas better than others? If the right house pops up in St. Albert I'd happily move there as well.
@@michaeljensen1625 Hi Michael, yes. North east Edmonton is perceived as sketchy. I would personally not live east of 127 st. The neighborhoods near Whyte Avenue are the most lively ones. Whyte Avenue is full of pubs for people to socialize and there are many festivals and activities in the summer. The neighborhoods in this area are also near the river and Millcreek ravine. Edmontonians like to go there for hiking, bicycling, canoeing, walking dogs...
Can't believe they said downtown holy fuck you can't go anywhere without being harassed for a cigarette or change. You'll have your catallac converter chopped the first night there. It's almost as ghetto as downtown Toronto
Moving to Edmonton from Yellowknife NWT. Found rotation work in Fort Mac so I work 2 weeks away then come back to Edmonton for 1 week. I arrive in a few weeks and haven't chosen a place to live yet. Will rent until I am familiar enough with the place to buy. Found a decent basement suite in Windermere for 900 a month plus 30% utilities. I'm not committed to it but I'm leaning that way. I am 32, single male no family or pets, coming from a small town and excited about being in Edmonton in general. I really liked renting the Lime scooters in the summer and a sick internet Cafe in St.Rupert area called OverKlocked. Anybody feel free to message me here, I don't know anybody in Edmonton and I love conversation. Tell me what part of town you would choose if you were me! I'd love it hear it!
Edmonton changes alot and it's tricky to choose an area based on presumptions or legacy. Young evolving metropolis. Its never too bad anywhere here really.
Would love to see edmonton move away from sprawl. It's so unsustainable for our city. I grew up in Riverbend and windermere, and although they're nice and new, they're also pretty boring. Most of edmonton is car dependent and cookie cutter. Wish we would urbanize, create more density, and stop building outside the henday.
@@tomc4139 lol. Urbanization is hell? That’s why western countries have been urbanizing for decades and the most expensive real estate is in the core of cities?? Also, you live in Sherwood park…but expect good transit? Lol. That’s called being a freeloader. Don’t even pay taxes to Edmonton but expect good transit hahaha. I’m downtown every few days. Live just outside of it. It’s awesome. And will only get better as we stop subsidizing sprawl and forcing all taxpayers to cover the bill of suburban freeloaders. St. Albert and Sherwood park need to be tolled. Parasitic impact to our city. Couldn’t exist without Edmonton, but don’t contribute to Edmonton’s taxes.
Its ok, you’ll hear some people talk about an attack or two, and young White people call it Mill Hoods because they like to sound interesting, but its actually a pretty good neighborhood.
Great video but unfortunately, I see a lot of homes and destinations built around the car rather than being people focused. Like large shopping centres that you cannot walk to easily.
Don’t forget that it’s a frozen wasteland from October to April and the city is wasting millions on a transit system for the people who can’t afford to drive and contribute nothing to the tax base
