I'm 73 and I had one of those flat heads....it ran better than some new ones do today. Only car that I ever saw with 2 water pumps that were actual motor mounts as well.
I was born in August of 1949 and was brought home from the hospital in a 1946 Ford. Dad bought a this 1951 model and I remember bringing my sister home in it a year later. My first memory.
Well, I owned a '53 Ford Customline for 15 years... It was the last year of the flathead V8 ... I like what you did... And thanks for showing it... I guess by now, someone may have said, the Fords of this vintage were 6 VDC with a positive ground ... So, I was a little shocked (no pun intended) at the 12 VDC negative ground that you ran the '49 with ... Best regards ...
Very cool video! I met you on a live event, either on 615 or 1320... Maybe Stuff with Cleatus... Anyway, I subbed and checked this video out tonight. Very nice. Really enjoyed watching. Take care and see you again.

I've never understood how a functional ride can sit idle for 50 years? Has nobody wanted to get this thing going in that time? Regardless.. congrats and it's a very cool project! Fun stuff!
A 1949 Ford has #1. pull door handles, a '50 has push button handles, #2 a '49 has a round gas cap, a '50 has a square gas door, #3 a '49 has its turn signals wedge shaped on the ends of the grill bar, the '50 has square turn signals in the grill, just to name a few differences. oh the '50 was the 1st year for the automatic trans.
I’m thinking on getting a 1949 to but it has a weird thing on the headlight and has no motor or transmission I have a 1968 ford galaxie 500 390 do you think everything would fit ?
All the crap has settled in the pan an moisture too. Need to drop the pan and clean out good or risk oil starvation from all the sludge blocking the pickup tube.
it is entertaining on my end. this Ford was a buddy thing. We found it on kijiji and towed it over. I wish I had the banter of the “I don’t think/I think it will” run…. I do agree in terms that getting a longer step by step might help that feeling.
That’s pretty doggone good Roy, being it’s your first time working on a Flathead V8! Very good buddy! 👏👍👍✌🏻
Thanks Doug, just like any other engine right Doug? LOL

Very cool, yes some do run a lot better than some of the new ones today. Thanks for the info.
They probably don't do so well with modern unleaded gas on the highway, though.
You r so right about unleaded gas..... but if you think about it .... what DOES run good or well on unleaded?
That is awesome my dad had a 1950 win i was a kid love seeing this
I’ll be doing another update on it soon. happy that it brought back memories.
That will be a beauty of a car! It started up so well! Very nice, looking forward to watching this one progress
Yes, so am I.
Man I actually really like those old flat heads. They have a sound all their own. Good job bringing it back to life!
That they do, can't wait to see it on the road.

That's absolutely amazing Roy and I love the flathead!
Was a lot of fun getting it running.
Also you can tell by the chrome gas cap on the 49 and on a 50 they had a gas door
thanks for the info.

When I was 5 years old I ran a 49 ford (my dad’s work car) in the street on the starter. In the early 60s.
that’s cool. 👍👍
Awesome

Always wanted a old flat head. They where hot roders dream engine when I was a kid. Thanks from Sc

Thanks for watching and there will be more to come.
Good job

Cool 49
Cont from last entry, it was a two door with manual three speed. We owned it from when I was born in 1957 to 1963. It was a great car.😀😀😗😀😀😀😀

The small arrow shaped parking lights and the small rounded trunk release handles are the 2 main giveaways.
i learned to drive in one of those lol.
That’s cool, hope it is all good memories of that.
Great work sounded better then I thought it would when it fired
Yes, me too it was surprising.
Great car! I think they call them shoe boxes...

Exposed trunk hinges are a 49 trait also
That’s a real cold start, parked for 50+ years and out in the driveway
Yes, thanks for the info, and that was a real cold start.
My first car was a 49 Ford I got in 62.
that’s cool.
Back in the day I had a 49 coupe with a manual transmission and it ran very.
cool. it’s a nice car.
My dad had a 51 model with a six clinder
Very cool
Fender Cushen Mat. Wouldn't want to scratch the Pain.
The 4 doors are worth nothing but those 2door Ford coups are classics.
you are right. gives me and my buddy a chance to do stuff you wouldn’t (and shouldn’t) with the 2 door… thanks for watching much appreciated
Also the 49 has the gas cap on the outside and the 50 ford had the gas cap door
Thank you for the info. Always great to have people chime in with their knowledge.
Has a emblem bage with Ford above it in the 1950 Ford 4 door sedan
Yes, thanks for the info.
Paul here. My dad.and mom had a 49 in yellow and brown. Also is that a mercury over Jessie's shoulder?
Sadly soon the new BABVVO laws will forbid all gas cars!
very sadly.
All fun in games till you start it on a hot day with shorts on( the seats )
yes indeed. then we see how well we run.

This is still a six volt system. Shouldn’t the battery be a positive ground?
The V8 emblem goes goes between the letters
Thanks for letting me know

Add marvel mystery oil to fuel will help lubricant everything
Thanks for the suggestion!
Back when cars were easy to work on.
yes sir.
I just wonder how many gallons of liquor my daddy has hauled in cars like that back in the late 40's and early 50's?
possibly a lot. :)
That looks like wyne howrds old car dose it go in reverse
I haven't tried to drive it yet, I suspect it could be the car as there is a problem with either the transmission or the rear end so I've been told.
This sexy car was ugly inside, but it runs out with all speed. Congrats for the restoration.
I think it’ll be a good one that the guy who owns it will enjoy.
All the crap has settled in the pan an moisture too. Need to drop the pan and clean out good or risk oil starvation from all the sludge blocking the pickup tube.
Yes, so many things to do on this car.
Those old fords didn’t rust like the F150s up to 2014 do.
It was old good American steel not the recycled Chinese crap used in most cars today
@@miopera40 the new f150s (2015 up) are made from recycled beer cans.
I agree with you.
@Randy Schneider and recycled pop bottles
In the future watch how chevy and the sheep trucks rust while 2015 up Fords keep their value due to aluminum bodies. Just like semi trucks.
Isn’t that supposed to be a positive ground?
Is that old girl still 6 volts?
it was. not anymore.
My uncle had a 2 door hardtop in this model, not sure of year but looks the same otherwise.
Virtually the same car other than the main body itself.
People wanted a Ford V8 in 1949 Gangster ! .. because other cars like Dodge had lazy flathead 6 cyl .. with 3 on the Tree
Yes that was basically what the flathead was all about, and in 1932 there was nothing else like it.
It's a Ford so don't forget to rotate the lug nuts. You don't do that and Ford will recall the car.
It’s entertaining to watch but I’m pretty sure most of the “will it run” videos are fake.
