- The first touch of Stedman Caters on the bells after a prolonged period (2 years) of no ringing whilst restoration has been taking place on the tower.
Having faced certain closure ten years ago, the church is now thriving thanks to intervention from Holy Trinity, Brompton. Structural repairs are also taking place to ensure the continued survival of this prominent landmark.
St Peter's houses a ring of ten bells, these being cast by Mears and Stainbank of Whitechapel in 1914. The tenor weighs 25cwt and is tuned to D.

Glad to hear the bells ringing again!
Has the intervention from HTC Bromptom had any effect - positive or negative - on the availability of the bells?
They've certainly made it nigh impossible to access the Willis organ, and it is rumoured that it is to be sold to St John's College Cambridge...
To be fair the team at St Peter's have been fairly accommodating of the bellringers since HTB took over in 2009. The only problem we've had is trying to get back in the tower since Covid, we shall wait and see how that pans out!
@@BristolVRchap as far as I'm concerned, HTB is pure poison. They are an aggressive cancer spreading rapidly through the CofE with the active complicity of the bishops, destroying cultural and liturgical traditions and replacing them with brainwashing and mindless inanity. Charismatic evangelical Christianity is nothing more than a cult, and I've seen first hand with former friends how the whole Alpha/Hillsong monster has broken down their ability to think critically about, well, anything. It's high time they were driven out of Anglicanism. If they want to do their stupid thing outwith the church, that's their concern, but it has no place in the Anglican communion.
Is the tenor cracked? It sounds like walloping an oil drum!
It's just a quirk of the tower acoustics. The tenor sounds better from outside!
the bells are cast by gillett and johnson
No, these were cast by Mears and Stainbank in 1914. The bells at St Nics are cast by Gillett and Johnston.
@@BristolVRchap both here at st peter and at st nicholas the bells are hung on 2 levels
