Thankfully there's a port on the blasted area, we're probably gonna see 3rd party sellers make a piece that can just tab in to port and make the windshield look somewhat normal and do something similar for prowl

I like to think this is Hasbro testing the waters to see if we'd want to see non-transparent pieces on future Generations figures, could also maybe lead to them expanding Studio Series further by including TV series' and giving us more accurate figures
If Studio series makes figures based on television shows. I just hope they actually keep the figures as close to the show as possible. Unlike the Legacy line that keeps stuffing G1 into their TFP and Animated figures.

Looks better but still the plastic that they used is not of very good quality, I transformed him once with tons of care and now the figure has some signs of stress on the legs plastic, now I fear breaking it if I transform him once more
@@SpeckyNation It'll also cost $10 this making this toy $10 more, $20 if you buy both sets. I love Toyhax but, it also adds $10 - $40 or $50 to the cost of the toys. My Menasor set cost a total of $120 for all the sets. $45 for Motormaster, $60 for the 4 cars and an additional $15 fit the upgrade kit. Which then brings my set to a whopping $370 total before taxes. Same for my Rodimus Prime, $80 fit the figure followed by $35 fit the decals. Then you've got gap fillers, which I also buy, and it gets crazy expensive. So, my Menasor set is over $400 with the fillers added.
Such an iconic scene. Personally I think the death expressions and battle damage are chef's kiss. I wish Prowl had the orange eyes. That's the real missed opportunity!

Well as soon as we get a 86 ratchet, the next set will be a dying ratchet and brawn. Also I could see them rereleasing a new clean prowl that’s exactly like this one but with a different head and no hole In the chest
I love that the tabs on the roof don't stand out in red. The translucent blue on the last version made it look like a fire department support vehicle. I think I'll just cover the window with blue cardboard and display as the vehicle.
The real car it’s based on often has those windows filled in, so no, it’s not “not painted for g1 accuracy” it wasn’t painted in g1 because of the real car
I guess the colour is close enough to swap heads with the SS Ironhide, but you can’t swap the chest plate, because it has the transparent windscreen and that would stick out. Side note, I think the reason they couldn’t do the stripe was how bad colour matching yellow on blue transparent plastic is. Also it’d be hard to find a red that looks right with a yellow that works right… the new damaged version has the stripe because it doesn’t have any transparent plastic.

I JUST got this set! Simple solution for me was, got matching color paint for the windshield, popped Ironhide’s heads off and swapped the 86 version, took the pins off the front and also swapped. Painted the windshield, and bam! Now Prowl, I’m working on that. It’s a risk if you choose to customize it. For me, totally worth it!

It is not a missed opportunity, because including swappable chests would have required them to completely re-engineer for the pieces to be swappable, and they weren't going to do that for a sideline that consists of mostly repaints. Extra heads, sure, that might have been feasible, depending on how they attach (if there are no screws), but chests?

I feel like they could've just made the shattered glass parts more inset to the chest, that way they could just have made a flat windscreen piece to cover it up if you wanted to
As you mentioned, optional swap out parts for non-damaged pieces would make this piece an instant buy as then, collectors would have the option to have toon accurate ironhide and prowl and not only corpses which only look good when they're posed dying.
Hasbro needs to realize that we don't want clear plastic in car roofs, forearms, clips, unions or as an entire vehicle door. As a frequent buyer with a limited amount of money and other responsibilities, it hurts to see stress marks on figures that I almost never touch. It's just so unfair to get official figures that are time bombs and will break out of nothing sometime in the future.
I wholeheartedly agree we deserve figures that are worth the price we pay for them why is it so hard for HASBRO to give us QUALITY with figures we love so much i want durability i want to be able to pick it up mess with it and it be ok after legacy armada starscream its put me off from collecting but I have hopes hear and there for certain figures
I think we have to draw a distinction between missed opportunities (wants) and what they have done (needs) - they gave us toys of a huge fan favourite scene from the movie which a few years ago would have been an absolutely pipe dream. To then say they also should have included more parts and head swaps seems to be asking an awful lot and would absolutely destroy the point of this pack in the first place? Hasbro move to satisfy fans desires with cool packs like this one to then have “actually add more and do this” levelled at them - there has to be some reasonable expectations on this stuff.
Agreed. I do NOT want dead versions of characters or versions of characters as they are getting sniped. It's traumatic to watch our beloved characters get blown to pieces as it is in the movie without freezing that moment and constantly reliving it.

Just got the two-pack at Toysrus this Thursday! It was a really pleasant surprise, as I thought they wouldn't release it until later this July! The background display and blast effects are a nice touch. I also have Studio Series 86 Ironhide, so now all I need is Brawn and the Earthrise figure of Prowl (you know, for continuity). Still, I didn't like their idea to kill off Ironhide. According to his character bios, he should have been tough enough to survive. In fact, in my stop-motion recreation I'm planning, as well as episode 1 of my "What if" styled anthology, the Decepticons will have upgraded their weapons to achieve this feat, and, in my splinter timeline, Ironhide will fake his deactivation until Megatron's boarding party throughs him out into space... until the Quintessons abduct him and give Ironhide a fate worse than death.
Thought I can agree we can get switchable parts. There ate downsides like having to retool the figure from the ground up and marking the price up to be more expensive. We gotta be careful what we wish for because at the end it'll come to bite us hard
I don't see why they couldn't at least give us pieces to peg onto the exposed pieces to clean them up a little bit, I mean a piece that could peg into the windshield on Ironhide and another on Prowl would have been nice, wouldn't it?
These moulds are repaints, any of their tooling expenses were likely covered but the first few runs of the mould (especially the Datsun mould) I really don’t think it would’ve cost them much at all to include at least a swappable head 🤷🏼♂️
For some reason, My local target already had this pack on sale for half price. Picked it up and it’s great, really enjoying the blast effects as well as the figures themselves. Trying to figure out a custom design for a filler piece that covers up Ironhides chest.
Even if they didn’t have the budget to add swappable parts, they could’ve at least added a small windshield piece to connect to the port on Ironhide’s chest, just to fill it out.
This could have been a great meet in the middle opportunity. I would be willing to pay a little more for this set if it did have swappable clean accessories. As opposed to just straight up having to spend more money on different figures. They could have given us that and made more money still by just charging a bit more for extra accessories.
I still really cannot believe they did this. Like imagine being a kid on Christmas and opening presents and the first thing you see is your favorite transformers CORPSE.

I do want to get an earth mode prowl, but not with the battle damage. I'll wait to see if they release a cleaner version of him, or a re release of the earthrise version.
I will too, I got the Ironhide as well and the new one is not doing much to make me want it. Will potentially get Prowl if a clean version is released some point in the future.
I would love to get a clean version of 86 Prowl and as I said from time to time, nearly everyone from the 86 animated movie including Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Megatron and anyone that some people missed and that they’re on at the after market for ridiculous prices (e.g. Thrust, Dirge and Ramjet)
I much prefer the opaque blue painted windows. It looks so much more cartoon realistic than the transparent windshields. I'll be replacing my older sets with any new sets with these windows ☺️
I am looking at the prowl comparison, and saying that they have the tooling for the chest price is not 100% accurate, because the ss86 prowl has bumperettes and the lights are now molded into the bumper piece.

I completely agree with your review and critiques PvP, and while I do think that the shaded in windows are better than the transparent ones, a part of me kind of wants the transparent version to match with all the older figures (eg. Having a Prowl with colored windows along with the transparent window Bluestreak, having a Ratchet with colored windows along with the transparent window Ironhide, etc.) Because with the prices nowadays, I don't know how keen I would be in getting another Bluestreak or another Ironhide just for transparent vs colored windows, if you know what I mean. I try to avoid getting two versions of the same character (the rumored Commander SS86 Ultra Magnus might be an exception though, we'll see how good he turns out).
Right with you on alternate parts. I'd rather pay a little more for an extra head sculpt than have to repurchase the same mold "but better!" Just make it correctly the first time.
In the end you can 3d print ironhide's windshield and for prowl sand the details down and repaint it (Edit) use rubbing alcohol to remove the burnt details on prwol
I missed Earthrise Prowl and the improvements made to Ironhide here are phenomenal. I would have definitely bought this set if they had included the alternate parts. But the way it is, I have ZERO use for it. Such a shame.
See, I'm fine with no clear plastic on Ironhide. He's a bit too complicated for it and there's just too much of him to be made clear and color matching is a bit hard for Hasbro apparently. Prowl I would have left his roof clear and painted white as I think that part can have clear windows easily but his shins in white with painted windows would be great. It seems to me that Hasbro could strike a balance on clear parts vs painted. In terms of the painted windows, I really wish they would do a darker metallic blue. I'm just not a huge fan of the sky blue no matter how animation accurate they might be.
These figures look so cool and I agree with you. They could have come with swappable heads and chest plates. I may skip these two but I would love to have gotten them. Out of curiosity what type of stands do you use?
My guess is that they realized what a huge mistake it was to have some many points of stress on clear plastic, re issued them in hard plastic with a battle damage gimmick to get exactly this reaction out of people, and that will justify normal deco hard plastic reissue down the road. That sweet, sweet triple dip.
Because they know if they had released a clean version of this with no battle damage but had this paint people would buy that and not this so that's why did it imo
I'm a bit on the fence when it comes to clear plastic windows vs light blue. The blue paint looks very nice, but somehow also cheaper to me overall (I also miss diecast for the same reason nowadays). I can also see Hasbro releasing quality blue stickers so there's a choice.
Maybe add on kits can give us a piece to plug on Ironhides chest to fill the battle damage and make it so you can pop the piece out when you recreate the scene

I think if you were skilled enough you could push out pins here and there on both versions of ironhide and prowl and make your own custom or definitive versions of the characters
Seeing this Ironhide begs the question what plastic 86 Ratchet will be using? If he’s gonna be all plastic instead of certain pieces use translucent plastic, why can’t the OG 86 Ironhide be the same? It’s gonna make 86 Ratchet a “definitive” version of the toy model that most people would want (besides the white discoloration obviously).
100% believe the initial releases were meant to have errors so people would buy the damaged one for more accuracy and promote more sales on a mold that doesn’t take too much to change.

0:55 Poor Ark, kept getting holes blown into him. Maybe that's why his titan class figure had huge gaps/missing pieces, for show accuracy.

The back side windows not being painted for "it's g1 accuracy" is why I always tell people why we should not always be 1 to 1 with g1 accuracy

I don't see why they couldn't at least give us pieces to peg onto the exposed pieces to clean them up a little bit, I mean a piece that could peg into the windshield on Ironhide and another on Prowl would have been nice, wouldn't it?
To be frank, Hasbro could not make BB Ironhide and Prowl with swappable parts or else it could have made the two-pack a little more expensive.
These moulds are repaints, any of their tooling expenses were likely covered but the first few runs of the mould (especially the Datsun mould) I really don’t think it would’ve cost them much at all to include at least a swappable head 🤷🏼♂️

For some reason, My local target already had this pack on sale for half price. Picked it up and it’s great, really enjoying the blast effects as well as the figures themselves. Trying to figure out a custom design for a filler piece that covers up Ironhides chest.

Even if they didn’t have the budget to add swappable parts, they could’ve at least added a small windshield piece to connect to the port on Ironhide’s chest, just to fill it out.
This could have been a great meet in the middle opportunity. I would be willing to pay a little more for this set if it did have swappable clean accessories. As opposed to just straight up having to spend more money on different figures. They could have given us that and made more money still by just charging a bit more for extra accessories.

I do want to get an earth mode prowl, but not with the battle damage. I'll wait to see if they release a cleaner version of him, or a re release of the earthrise version.

I will too, I got the Ironhide as well and the new one is not doing much to make me want it. Will potentially get Prowl if a clean version is released some point in the future.

I would love to get a clean version of 86 Prowl and as I said from time to time, nearly everyone from the 86 animated movie including Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Megatron and anyone that some people missed and that they’re on at the after market for ridiculous prices (e.g. Thrust, Dirge and Ramjet)
You should do more transformations like this.
DNA will fix this one soon. Might grab this pack only for blast effects and chance for it being cheap in the future.
They should have done painted battle damage like in siege so we could rub it off, especially if they weren’t going to give us interchangeable parts
I much prefer the opaque blue painted windows. It looks so much more cartoon realistic than the transparent windshields. I'll be replacing my older sets with any new sets with these windows ☺️

I am looking at the prowl comparison, and saying that they have the tooling for the chest price is not 100% accurate, because the ss86 prowl has bumperettes and the lights are now molded into the bumper piece.

surprised they included iron hide's head as megatron blew it clean off. the original 84 toy without the head sadly became his fate
As morbid as it sounds, I wish Ironhide had a few more damage points. He was shot 4 times before the final blast from Megatron.
I completely agree with your review and critiques PvP, and while I do think that the shaded in windows are better than the transparent ones, a part of me kind of wants the transparent version to match with all the older figures (eg. Having a Prowl with colored windows along with the transparent window Bluestreak, having a Ratchet with colored windows along with the transparent window Ironhide, etc.) Because with the prices nowadays, I don't know how keen I would be in getting another Bluestreak or another Ironhide just for transparent vs colored windows, if you know what I mean. I try to avoid getting two versions of the same character (the rumored Commander SS86 Ultra Magnus might be an exception though, we'll see how good he turns out).

I missed Earthrise Prowl and the improvements made to Ironhide here are phenomenal. I would have definitely bought this set if they had included the alternate parts. But the way it is, I have ZERO use for it. Such a shame.

See, I'm fine with no clear plastic on Ironhide. He's a bit too complicated for it and there's just too much of him to be made clear and color matching is a bit hard for Hasbro apparently. Prowl I would have left his roof clear and painted white as I think that part can have clear windows easily but his shins in white with painted windows would be great. It seems to me that Hasbro could strike a balance on clear parts vs painted. In terms of the painted windows, I really wish they would do a darker metallic blue. I'm just not a huge fan of the sky blue no matter how animation accurate they might be.

My guess is that they realized what a huge mistake it was to have some many points of stress on clear plastic, re issued them in hard plastic with a battle damage gimmick to get exactly this reaction out of people, and that will justify normal deco hard plastic reissue down the road. That sweet, sweet triple dip.

I'm a bit on the fence when it comes to clear plastic windows vs light blue. The blue paint looks very nice, but somehow also cheaper to me overall (I also miss diecast for the same reason nowadays). I can also see Hasbro releasing quality blue stickers so there's a choice.
Maybe add on kits can give us a piece to plug on Ironhides chest to fill the battle damage and make it so you can pop the piece out when you recreate the scene

I think if you were skilled enough you could push out pins here and there on both versions of ironhide and prowl and make your own custom or definitive versions of the characters

Seeing this Ironhide begs the question what plastic 86 Ratchet will be using? If he’s gonna be all plastic instead of certain pieces use translucent plastic, why can’t the OG 86 Ironhide be the same? It’s gonna make 86 Ratchet a “definitive” version of the toy model that most people would want (besides the white discoloration obviously).
100% believe the initial releases were meant to have errors so people would buy the damaged one for more accuracy and promote more sales on a mold that doesn’t take too much to change.
