The landowner made a passing comment about not being able to develop on the land. It seems like this would be a problem everywhere in Britain. The whole island is one big archeological site.
Greece: Hold my beer
YEH THAT GOES FOR MOST OF THE LAND IN THE LEVANT, MIDDLE EAST, ITALY, GREECE AND PROBABLY INDIA AND CHINA. IT WILL BE EVEN WORSE IN THE EAST BECAUSE WE KNOW THE MIDDLE EAST GOT MORE PEOPLE AND MORE ANCIENT CITY FOR A LONGER TIMES.@@joek600
True enough, but most of England consists of towns and other pieces of England that have already been made. New areas are few and far between.
I'd love to see the team revisit this site. Seems like a lot of potential and no telling what John could find with his new instruments.
RETURN THE MAP
Has anyone else noticed the little Mick doll at about 34:10? It's certainly got his hair, glasses and sweater!
My word you have good eyes! I went back and looked… so cute. I wonder who made it.
I saw it too. And I want one!
When he broke his leg, the doll had a cast on it for one episode.
I’ve seen the Mick doll in at least one other episode.
Stewart is the bees knees, I don't ever remember him getting it wrong and always brings new information and a fresh look at the places he visits. Respect.
He has. And John didn't take it easy on him. Can't remember what episode but it's happened
ruclips.net/video/4dI8r4JPM-s/видео.html it's this ep I just watched it before this one lol
Agreed
And matt. Dude finds all the good shit i swear
I'm sure they mixed a lot of mortar like that but you would think they would have some kind of a draft animal hooked up to that crossbar to push it around. Or slaves!
I always like it when shows like these just casually knock on someone's door and act like they've never met the person who answers. "Hi there! We're from Time Team. Can we dig massive holes all over your property?"
"Why of course you can!"
😉❤
Notice she said they weren't allowed to develop on it...I think she would've been equally happy if they had found absolutely nothing! :)
Whenever I saw Tony Robinson interact with children in his shows, I thought "He's so good with kids, he probably has like 5 kids!" and then I checked... he actually does :D
Whew, I thought that story was going to take a different turn. I'm very pleased it did not LOL
I remember him reading a children’s book on jackanory, I think it was something like fat tulip
I have thought that, too. Thanks for the info!
This episode seems to have it all. Stewart did his usual amazing job decoding the landscape, John put them on the interesting bits to dig, Phil and all the diggers produced great finds and performed some experimental archeology, and Mick stitched it all into a meaningful story. Bavo!
Bavo indeed
Bravisimo
Many, many Saxon farms in the east of the Netherlands, are build with oak piles resting on stone, often field boulders from the ice age, sockets. That's how the three ailed farm building s were build. thatched roofs, a house mark on top at the front and end, often two horse heads carved into it. Same as this model more or less.
I LOVE it when John gets all excited about geophys. I get tickled over his glee. 😆😆😆
wow big respect to that inspector, he could have just stayed in his office but look at how he went at it with that sod cutting machine, that was awesome of him. hope hes well a decade and change later. I wonder what hes doing now.
Wow, archaeologists certainly work hard-so much digging and shoveling! Love TT.
I can work up an appetite just watching them. 😁
Shoutout to Mick the Dig for not only having the best nickname, but for being a surgeon with that digger!
Wish there was a way to see or get any of Victors art all in one place love his view on these sites
he has released a few books with his art in
There are at least 2 pinterest galleries that show up in a "Victor Ambrus" google search. His website is under construction at the moment, alas, but this gallery has sold his work - and you could probably commission an original if you have the means!

Thank you for the lovely clear picture. I don't know how many times I've watched this episode. I love it.
This king was truly an Offa you couldn't refuse.
Awful! Kindly leave the stage!
@@dinerouk I think you mean "Get Offa the stage!"
Tony using the word 'knoll' struck me.
Old english it was 'Cnoll'.
Some 30 km from my place in Fryslân, the Netherlands, I know a little place named 'Knolle' named Cnolle in the past. This place is a higher dry part in a moor-region.
How Time team surprises me again and again using old english words meaning the same in my region 'Old Frisia'.
Great to see the kids getting involved...
I enjoyed the commercials, too bad Time Team kept interrupting them.
ROFLMAO Too many bullshit commercials on RUclips these days.
Get adblocker, I have not seen any commercial on YT for years. Its all bliss :)
@@TheSuprahuman Thanks! Will do!
it fits in w Offas planz
How was the central post of the mixer anchored so that it would resist wobbling? Great to see how mortar was mixed so long ago. Thank you, Time Team!
Watching chronologically. At last! Phil's hat is starting to look truly disreputable.
Check out the series about Waterloo, new hat and old hat
Phil wears his clothes until they’ve been worn so hard they have holes. He’s hilarious.
His repute springs from his work, not from his looks - so, no.
Adore TT and the Brits involved! I wonder what Mick thought of the Mick doll.
Get adblock to enjoy the show.
I'm amazed when people don't use it. When i have the scrub and reload the computer its one of the first things I add to my browser.
Or you could easily fast roll and restart...no commercials, takes ruffly 2 seconds
I want to support some people’s postings with ads...not many but some
Lovely sence of humour John.😅❤
I love the Mick doll on the desk, lmao 😂
I love Tony and Mick and Phil and John and Stewart, as do many, many other people as well of course. But I also love Carenza and Helen, who don't seem to receive as much attention and appreciation as the male members of Time Team do. Especially Carenza who is an OG and is very passionate and intelligent and well-researched and knowledgeable. However, the male members seem to have always talked over her and nott given much weight to her opinions, when it was mostly revealed afterwards, that she was right the whole time!
I absolutely love Carenza. But in some episodes (I think it was in Eisher) she didn't seem to actually be doing as much as they pretended she was.
Been a staple diet for my archeological needs for years, I remember when the show started, some of those featured such as Mick Aston have long past but always enjoy some TT :)
Oh and *Adblock* ftw, uninterrupted viewing :)
7:12 such a beautiful melody...
King Offa was anglish, not saxon. It did not mean much more than 300 years after the anglo-saxon invasion of Britain. But in Denmark we have a legend about an anglish king named Offa (Uffe), who would have lived around 400 AD, when the angel tribe lived in the most south part of Jutland. He once saved the angel tribe, or maybe defended the border towards the saxons, or rather the svabes, clearly so that there were no more disqussion. And he was called Offa the Meek because he did not say and do much when his father was king. This Offa is also mentioned in Beowulf and Widsith along with his son Eomer, and it was Eomer who led the anglish migration to Britain.
@Brisdad53 Thank you. I should have written "anglian"or "angels". It is a little difficult because angels gets mistaken for angles. I have also seen germanic called "saxonian type".
Anglo-saxon is the new catchall that includes even haitian immigrants, no reference to actual white people allowed any more lol
@@LTPottenger In Denmark they wanted to call immigrants newdanes, but I think they have stopped that again.
I have to always remind myself these digs are from the days when distance was how far a man could walk in a day-without roads so-to-say!
gorgeous landscape in this episode
Thank you.
the Mick rag doll is the cutest thing !
King Offa getting a laugh out of all the digging by hand...lol
Just watched somn from 1981 via Micha wood about this exact situation and it's cool too see how much more we know now ans how much they discovered kn this episode.
I love the tiny Mick doll at 33:36!
" VICTORS " Art work is excellent ! be neat to have available to purchase. Great show always ! Wish they could come to the USA and do work on REV. WAR . War of 1812 & Civil War sites !
time team america but it pales ro this 1
It really is very good! That would be cool if they did that here, with the same team 😁
Why do i keep coming back to this one episode
How exciting!!! Thank you for sharing ♥♥♥
Never seen this episode before … WOW
Phil has his hand in everything. Stewart hides in other fields lol. Glad Tony can see them all.
Don't think anyone dared oppose a King called Offa. You know you will get an offa you can't refuse!
I’ve been watching for 3 yrs now, and I’m just amazed how history is buried under feet of dirt. I’m naive but how did this occur? I understand near rivers where flooding occurred but many places are high.
Rubbish over time builds up and raises the street level. Over hundreds of years the inches really do build up and when new building takes place it does so on the higher level
Thank you for sharing.
Thank You
There’s just never enough time.
I haven't seen anything this riveting since Geraldo opened Al Capone's vault.
Did anyone see the Mick doll? Looks like Mick..
I love this show!
not near enough commercials, you tube kept interrupting them with this "time team" nonsense.
Anyone else notice the little stuffed Mick Aston next to the computer @ 33:38?
What happened to all those potatoes that were dug up in the knoll trench? Time Team chips for a month?
Der erste Zwangsmischer-they often let it done by horses or cows they went up and down on plaster/clay to make it workable!
Where the heck does all of the soil that’s covering these places come from? Absolutely amazing.
Lol forestry leaves trees falling over decades u cut a square hole in barn roof and nature will destroy it to the point you see nothing in time.
I always assumed it was dead leaves and grass decomposing over the ages. Plus general refuse that people discard on abandoned sites.
@@larryhamilton264 What about in an open field? It always just seems like so much more than it should lol.
@@stephensedlon8414 You pretty much said the exact same thing as i you phrased it slightly different but yeas your correct.
One would wonder when there are no trees in sight. However, Farming adds the remains of the vegetation. The depths vary depending on the geography and topography.
It is an amazing thought when we stop to consider: what's under the ground in any given location Worldwide.
"L-dar" has really made a shorter order on the subject. That has been a major advance for Geophysics between the 1990' s and present day.
(I mean really, they found the "City of the Monkey-god" with that sophisticated radar!)

No wonder why this video look old 😂 .... This is actually from 2000 😂🤣
Thank you for putting the original date, I always wonder cause of the way they change over the years
Time Team should just get A Twitch channel that way viewers can ask their questions live to the team while watching the recording with them.
you apparently do not know that Time Team has not been filmed for many years. The series ran for 20 years. Some of the mains are still alive and have moved on. Phil has been quite busy. Look up Phil Harding and take a peek at the current stuff. Some of the others have worked on other English Heritage project, Have fun following up
@@Terry-me6ux my statement still valid though
@@tygeron3145 Yep too bad thats not a possibility.
The real mystery, Did 1 rainbow sweater last 25 years or he has an entire closet full... ?
I haven’t seen his rainbow hat - but then I just gather a whole bunch of TT then watch them of a night time. So one night Tony is nearly bald and the next night he’s got hair Phil would love to have….. Actually I’ve just had brain surgery and they shaved my head half way back. I could do with some hair myself lol
His wife knitted the first, or perhaps more, but fans sent them to him . 🎉

Fantastic arkeologia
I wonder what happens with the trenches after time team leaves. Are they filled in or a do the home owners or land owners bring in other archeologist to continue digging?
They're filled in, just like the majority of archaeology in Britain. As long as they're properly recorded they're safer covered up.

Sad they interrupt the advertising with an archeology program over and over again. 🤯

Authentic kid power too! On the mixer. They prob did have some kids turn that dude. I would. Lol
Have they located Offa's burial site yet? That would be cool.
33:38 IS THAT...A DOLL...OF MICK?
Yes. In another episode, he was laid up with a broken leg. The doll showed up with a cast on.
At about 13:35 or so, that drawing looks more like a grist mill for grinding grain.
All these doctors with shovels. How I envy them 🤗

hey can anyone tell me the name of the pottery type guide that Dr Vince is using as a reference manual? id like to snag a copy if possible that looks pretty interesting.
26:51 5 meters? Looks like maybe 1.5 meters at most.
Will every episode release or just some?
Gotta love the English, they talk about midevil stuff like ya found a mason jar out n the burn pit out back. Lol. Ill come dig up that midevil stuff for yall!!
Um....Medieval

Isn’t this sofa actually Arthur?
Think about how expensive it would have been to use a helicopter to get an aerial view. Now it could be done inexpensively with a drone. It would let them spend a lot more time looking at things too.
It's been there for 1,200 years, why only three days to find out!!!
Offa also may have had a condominium down in the Scillys!
I wonder if further excavation find out what building was it next to the church.

It was scheduled before it was verified?
I'm at 9:20 and have had at least 4 commercial interruptions so far.

You can thank the increasing amount of freeloaders using ad blockers for the increasing amount of ads showing up on videos to compensate for the rev drop. $12/m and you don't have to look at them. If you can't afford that then you can't afford to complain.
@@JamesBiggar Yeah, I'm close to tears now; feeling so guilty.... Don't you think Google has made enough money? Screw them.
On this channel at least, the ad revenue goes to support Time Team itself, and helps to fund future digs. Clicking “Like” helps them too.
Dr. Blair has a very similar accent to David Mitchell.
so. much. ads.
it's a good thing i love this team.
Where does all the overburden come from?
why always only three days?
Copied from above:
1) Mick Aston designed and planned the show that way, 2) the archaeologists were doing TT digs on the weekends as they all have regular professional jobs, and 3) Channel 4 financed the digs and their budget was not infinite.
The main reason is Mick Aston believed that a concentrated effort over three days was sufficient to discover the basic nature of a site- they were doing site-evaluation digs, not full-on excavations which can go on for months.
Ask Stewart he will know
20 ads in a 50 min long program. Gg gg
Really? I haven't seen a single ad on YT for over 3 years. Nor any ads anywhere on the 'net. Read Jimmy L Needham's comment above and quit your belly aching.
