I think Francesco was one of those people that just wanted to have a restaurant where only the "elite" and wealthy would come to. Kinda like that one guy from Juniper Hill on Hotel Hell.
This reminded me of the one Hotel Hell episode "Juniper Hill" too where the owners did the same thing basically only catering to the rich and their friend's who they let them stay for free
The funny thing about those cases is the owners picking remote blue collar towns to hold their upper crust, high end, invitation only establishment, and complaining about lack of customers 😂
“My business is failing!” Gordon comes in to provide changes “No I won’t make the changes you provide! I’m staying in my old ways!” Business starts failing again because they won’t change “It’s Gordon’s fault we are failing!”
ainsley harriot is a legend and used to have his own cooking show: can't cook, won't cook. he's even appeared in sitcoms such as we are klang, and red dwarf.
I went for lunch in about 2014. Elements of the food were very special. The service though was poor enough to be funny. It was down to one woman that seemed to be in charge of the dining room. She was beyond brusque. Took our coats and stalked the room grumpily. The younger staff tried to make up for her rudeness. When we retrieved our coats I saw through the door that she picked them up from the floor. That ox cheek though..........That was pretty special. .
Seems like the place was full of arrogant jerks. He couldn't care less about lower prices affecting the quality, he just wanted to make more money. I'll be going to Wales for vacation in April, maybe we'll hunt this place up. Thanks as always for the awesome updates 👍💙🏴
The owner doesn't care about the pricing opinions of the townsfolk. His only possible steady income of locals who always come to him. He doesn't care. What?
I spotted an older Gary in a video on RUclips where some Swedish bikers go across Britain and film it. He was in a Biker's roadside cafe in Wales, the place looked very nice. Might be worth a look (haven't finished the video so sorry if you knew this already)
If nothing was working for Francesco by doing things his way, then common sense would tell you to change it up and to try a different way. 🤦♂️ Yet he was so stubborn. Francesco knew good and well that business would only increase if he implemented the changes that Gordon presented. How could Francesco even attempt to blame the show? When he kept prices too high and pretentious. I would just tell him, _"fine, keep doing it your way, you've got it champ and you have the formula down, apparently"._ Deuces✌️😅
Damn stubborn owner refuses to promote his own chef when they were proven to be creative and work hard. No wonder that guy choses to left. He saw no future there He lost a good employee because of this
that was back when the pound was 2:1 to the dollar, so it would have been $60k USD back in 2003. As someone else mentioned in another comment with inflation that would be like $85,000 today. Also I'm sure the cost of living in rural Wales isn't very much either.

Yeah, those kinda owners are just idiots.

I do get Robert vibes from Francesco. Too upper class orenented.
Francesco just wanted the PR and didn't want to change a thing because he thought everything was fine the way it is.
this shows there is a fine line between ego and professionalism
Dude was so stubborn he NEVER LISTENED TO THE ADVICES HE WAS GIVEN

Typical stubborn owner making a mess out of it.
Considering the new owner after francesco thrived doing what gordon said that francesco needed to do, i hope francesco is aware of all those successes

No problem and enjoy your holiday in Wales! Let us know how the Walnut Tree is if you go there
Haven’t seen this episode in years, still as nuts as I can remember
Cheapskate owner with a restaurant full of potential but made a hash out of it!
The owner doesn't care about the pricing opinions of the townsfolk.
His only possible steady income of locals who always come to him. He doesn't care.
What?
I think Francesco is back in London now, and I think he’s doing okay.
A michelin star review. 👏 bravo!

He lost a good employee because of this
I Will never understand why he refused to give the role to One of the Two promising pepole HE ALREADY HAD IN HIS TEAM
Lol - great update.
Mick-row-ayeve

30 thousand a year? Thats poverty wages goddamn.
20 years ago? Because that's when this was filmed
Yeah that's roughly 85,000 USD today so not quite poverty
Hé was too stubborn.
£30.000 for nights and weekends and long hours ,,,
Inflation. That's worth a lot more now.
