Great vid, man. I just got a full-size Outrun cab this weekend. Been trying for a long time and it finally came through. I agree completely that it is one of the most important racers to ever come out. It was also the very first arcade game I ever played. Tons of great memories!
Bonjour John! It's just my favorite game! I own it on Master system, Megadrive, Gba and Saturn with the steering wheel! I know it by heart but this cabaret version is my dream! Maybe one day.........."merci pour cette belle démonstration!"
Being a child of the 80s I loved Outrun - in particular when you found the places that had the fully motorized sit down version of the game, which was fairly responsive.
Nice vid John! I have the full size upright. I was thinking about installing the rom hack but i'm always afraid of F'ing something up and messing up my board. Keep up the good work!
Everything about OutRun is perfect and flawless!!! The graphics look real, the flow is perfect, the Ferrari, the blondie, the driver, etc. are perfected, and this is why I love OutRun.
Cool to see how the screen refresh frequency changes when there are large sprites on screen... Sega's sprite-based faux 3D was really something back in the day.
I loved Outrun that game is awesome and damn you are one lucky guy to have a arcade with some sweet ass games maybe if I win the lotto or rob a bank I'll be able to have a arcade like yours
It's great to see the Enhanced Edition of the roms up and running on your machine. I just posted a new version, which fixes some minor corruption with the sound samples. Google 'reassembler enhanced edition' for them.
Hell yeah, I remember you traded or sold this game out of your collection. I recently got the Sega Saturn port of it (it's pretty much an arcade perfect port) and it's a really awesome game and as you mentioned yes it's pretty challenging but I have beaten it on normal mode it did take a lot of practice to pull it off though.
My most long lasting memory from Outrun is from the fall of 1988. We were vacationing at Playa de Las Americas and the hotel (Laguna Park 2) pool bar had this game. The memorable part was that the insulation of the game was not the best and it leaked a bit of current so you would get a tingling feeling if playing with even a little bit of moist feet.
Wow! Sounds like a lot of work! :) Power Supply is clicking? Hmmm... sure it's not the monitor? Check those voltages and make sure everything is plugged in. GOOD LUCK!
Hey John,, Just picked up a Sega Out Run.Cabaret! Got it dirt cheap! But boy this thing is in very ,very rough shape. It will be my biggest challenge ,by far. Anyway what its doing is making a clicking noise from power supply. And the monitor has a green horizontal line. That's it!! I am buying a multi-meter this weekend. So I will check power supply. What has me most baffled is the four wires not hooked up. These wires are in the bottom left of cab. Does it have a on/off switch? Outside?
Hey John ,figured out the loose wires. No prob. there. But boy am I stuck. Please help! I checked the power coming in. That was good, The power supply was bad ,nothing coming back out. So I replaced that. So now I have same Prob. Not sure where to go now. My monitor is doing a line horiz. line across screen. But if I push service switch, it will bring up a dull greenish diagnostic menu on screen. I don't think a re-cap kit is the only issue here.???help,,This thing has many years of neglect!! TY
Hey what’s a good monitor to use for this game? I bought this exact machine for cheap because the neck tube was broken. Not sure if I should replace with same monitor.
Out Run is however, one of my top Fav. alltime classic Driving games. Very fast moving. Beautiful like an oil painting, heavenly tunes, awesome shaker motor (the standup ver. slides the entire wheel assembly, about an inch of travel, horizontally, Not both H & V., using a powerful one way motor, with a steam-train style crank arm mechanism. Very good difficulty. High traffic levels. Turns so tight u have to gear down or brake.Great wreckage ability.Realistic shading, Near perfection.
Hey John, I am picking up a fully working Sega Outrun Upright (dirt cheap by the way) where can I buy the high score save/freeplay rom hack for this game?
Hi John. I enjoy your videos. Don't know if you ever did it, but could you show the mechanism that shakes the steering wheel ? Is that a motor or a solenoid of some sort ? And if you already shown that, could you point me towards that video ? Thanks ! BTW, you always say that you're not such a great player, but I did get a lot of useful tips tricks from you demonstrating theses games.
Everything about this video is awesome. Only odd issue is that although I understand arcades are loud, I cannot fathom why you are shouting so loudly? My headphones had to be surgically removed from my melted face :)
John, you say that its' very hard to get to the end of this game. That is true; however, I've heard that the fastest route for finishing this game is: Right, Left, Right, Right
Hi John I can get a mint Outrun deluxe sit down full motion cabinet for $1200.00 do you think it would be worth it? Guy says they were over 20 thousand new back in there time what are your thoughts should I go for it?
John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech That is my thoughts also I do have a spot in the pool table side of my basement but the game looks big it's a Outrun turbo deluxe full motion cabinet but your rite the size is a factor your cabaret version is awesome. Also some excitement around here this morning John I am picking up my first pinball Whirlwind at the loading dock at 6 Am this morning. Your video review on Whirlwind helped me make my final decision to purchase it for my first pinball I really enjoy everything you do thanks John.
Out Run was the first BIG release I remember, the previous classics I was too young and feels like they were just always there. This is like pacman or something to me.
I could never afford to own a genuine machine plus the maintenance cant be easy these days. So I've just bought a logitec wheel with gear shifter and pedals. Going to get it running on mame..the nearest i will get to the experience. You must be loaded to have all those machines.
Got mame set up....loving outrun at the moment. Just trying to get the picture as close as I can to the arcade version. It's not easy replicating the look of a 20 inch CRT on a 32 inch LCD. Getting scan lines and colours right is tough. I bought a marquee for outrun and built a light box to give an arcade feel. It's not the same but it's as close as I can get.
"just found some games in an abandoned warehouse" Oh wow, only in America; so cool. Also, when you say "gotten rid of..." do you mean for good or are they somewhere else. After you modded the Simpsons pinball table I'd be surprised if you then sold it.
Yeah Out Run is definitely hard as I have beaten Turbo Out Run which I feel is slightly easier. And not Out Run at all. Also it might be because of being able to continue as with Out Run you can't. lol
I have to disagree.Turbos a much better game than Pole Position. PP is much slower & easier. Very squirly on the corners. PP only lasts a few min tops. In Turbo,u can keep getting extended plays, if ur good enough. Turbo has much more varied scenery, such as night lit city, huge suspension bridges, hills, tunnels, narrow roads, ice, & more.Yes, Turbo is a little problematic on the scene changes, however, its easy to deal with once you know how to work it, and well worth the quirks.
OutRun is one of my all-time favorite arcade games. I love the music! Magical Sound Shower is one of my favorite arcade tunes... :)
Yeah, it's a GREAT game. My second favorite classic racer. :)
This game was definitely ahead of it's time!
Great vid, man. I just got a full-size Outrun cab this weekend. Been trying for a long time and it finally came through. I agree completely that it is one of the most important racers to ever come out. It was also the very first arcade game I ever played. Tons of great memories!
Picked an Upright up a few weeks back, at last my dream cabinet. Cool vid
omg you are my idol! This is an awesome collection!
Amazing! Happy 30th!
Whenever someone mentions shenmue, I'm always glad to know what they're talking about. And your basement is amazing.
that's awesome collection man ,outrun was my favorite driving arcade
Bonjour John!
It's just my favorite game! I own it on Master system, Megadrive, Gba and Saturn with the steering wheel! I know it by heart but
this cabaret version is my dream! Maybe one day.........."merci pour cette belle démonstration!"
Outrun is a legend, I used to played this game, that’s going racing on tour.
OutRun is definitely my top dream racing machine to own. Really cool that they made a cabaret version.
Lots of quarters spent in the late 80's. Awesome video.
Sooooo jealous. Great vid man!!!
Being a child of the 80s I loved Outrun - in particular when you found the places that had the fully motorized sit down version of the game, which was fairly responsive.
You have chosen the music that I always choose too ...
Last wave 🌊 is my favorite song I love outrun I wish I had this game
thumbs up for a new arcade tour!
Nice vid John! I have the full size upright. I was thinking about installing the rom hack but i'm always afraid of F'ing something up and messing up my board. Keep up the good work!

I'd love you to do a fresh video for Outrun. Maybe take a breath every now and again.
It's great to see the Enhanced Edition of the roms up and running on your machine. I just posted a new version, which fixes some minor corruption with the sound samples.
Google 'reassembler enhanced edition' for them.

Wow id love this machine brings back so many memories
Did not even know they had a stand up version. Played the heck out of the sit down version.
in the 1980's and 1990's Sega released some awesome racing games including Hang on, Super Hang on, Outrun, Virtua Racing and Daytona USA.
I have yet to make it to the end!! I must be really bad! :)
I freaking Love Outrun I remember playing that and Pole Position in a bar/restaurant
The Outrun arcade game I used to play was the shape of a Ferrari, and had hydraulics, so the whole thing moved left and right when you played it.
You are living the dream Wow
just discovered your channel, very excited. Do you have a Polybius game? I know it is a myth but they make custom ones
Wow! Sounds like a lot of work! :) Power Supply is clicking? Hmmm... sure it's not the monitor? Check those voltages and make sure everything is plugged in. GOOD LUCK!
Outrun an awesome game I'm jealous you have the arcade machine.

@dj9volt I posted a link to the mod in the above video description!

John you should make an on-the-road video for Turbo Outrun, which is at the FunSpot arcade.
what a classic sega racer =)
Do you know the name of the cross country arcade racing game that came out in the 90's?
wow its a dream of mine to have one of these in my house
Hey what’s a good monitor to use for this game? I bought this exact machine for cheap because the neck tube was broken. Not sure if I should replace with same monitor.
Not sure if 8 bit or 16 bit
You know the optimal point to change from low to high with out wheel spin is on the 3rd green light.
Which racing arcade game let u race with a hummer? Was it Cruis' n Usa or...
Hey John, I am picking up a fully working Sega Outrun Upright (dirt cheap by the way) where can I buy the high score save/freeplay rom hack for this game?
What's your take on Sega's Rad Mobile?
Outrun still looks great!
You use the brake pedal in this game? I never have. n00b ;P
the "a" route is the hardest to complete. i had this game on pc lol.
What is the PCB settings? Easy?
Do you know anyone selling an Outrun cabaret by chance?
Hi John. I enjoy your videos. Don't know if you ever did it, but could you show the mechanism that shakes the steering wheel ? Is that a motor or a solenoid of some sort ? And if you already shown that, could you point me towards that video ? Thanks ! It's a motor-driven force feedback system
You can really see the pre Daytona dynamics in Out Run. I'm suprised you didnt keep the Turbo to put next to the Pole position and Out run.
I love this on the XBOX!! ;)
A really good friend of mine recently traded me this for a Vectrex and a couple Mortal Kombat PCBs.
Everything about this video is awesome. Only odd issue is that although I understand arcades are loud, I cannot fathom why you are shouting so loudly? My headphones had to be surgically removed from my melted face :)
John, you say that its' very hard to get to the end of this game. That is true; however, I've heard that the fastest route for finishing this game is: Right, Left, Right, Right
+Matthew Rivera I tried that. I'm just bad. 😭
John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech i see. I love the OutRun games. I've been playing the sequel OutRunners via MAME
@@mrgutchman - "Right, Left, Right, Right" is probably the easiest route to memorise where the "gotcha" curves are - they're all pretty tough though.
I want outrun so bad outrun is my most favorite game ever
Outrun is fun!!!
Jeannie Lewis
Just got it last week. It's very fun. I don't use the brake though.
how much for buy OutRun?
Hi John I can get a mint Outrun deluxe sit down full motion cabinet for $1200.00 do you think it would be worth it? Guy says they were over 20 thousand new back in there time what are your thoughts should I go for it?
I dunno! That's a big game!

David Pemberton Dam you have an extra Outrun sure that got sold a long time ago!
David Pemberton I sold it last week. :)
John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech Have you owned a Williams High Speed? that's the next pinball I would like to find.
There was a wow factor when it came out - was it running 60fps?
No, 30fps. But you wouldn't know to look at it at the time!
I'm sure you get asked this ALL THE TIME - but are these games for private use only or do you have times when you open it up to the public?
Me and my friend Jay have games on location in Amherst, MA at the HAngar Pub and Grill. Come visit!
If I only was rich. Great vid!
Memories
Out Run was the first BIG release I remember, the previous classics I was too young and feels like they were just always there. This is like pacman or something to me.
I was a beast in this game 🔥🔥 🚘🔥🔥
"And it also adds high score save, which is bitchin' ". I thought that was funny.
Love this game. Not sure I'm into the cabaret cab though
you should buy a Turbo Outrun PCB, put it in your OutRun cabinet, then make a gameplay video of Turbo OutRun.
god iam so jealous of your basement man!!!!
Como se extrañan esas máquinas de juegos
like! and added to favorites ;)
@twinatic because blkdog7 have to make room for the new games
Do you still have your Out Run?
Yes, I do! :) I like it.
I could never afford to own a genuine machine plus the maintenance cant be easy these days. So I've just bought a logitec wheel with gear shifter and pedals. Going to get it running on mame..the nearest i will get to the experience. You must be loaded to have all those machines.

fucking love outrun
I'd love to have you as a neighbor.
CLASSIC
yes, there's one in the garage and in the basement... i have a problem... ja! great.
John sounds a bit younger here, back when he was a rookie. lol
Lol I hear pole position in the background
Is your electricity bill insane?
Great looking game. I personally prefer lucky and wild though.
Lucky! Lucky!
"just found some games in an abandoned warehouse" Oh wow, only in America; so cool.
Also, when you say "gotten rid of..." do you mean for good or are they somewhere else. After you modded the Simpsons pinball table I'd be surprised if you then sold it.
Lol. You never use the brake pedal. (If you're good)
Agreed! You let off the gas, but you never use the brakes!
Wait a minute......
You got rid of Jungle King?!
(bangs the keyboard)
Long time ago
WHY?????!!!!!

The culprit of the SEGA arcades.

i already play outrun but in PSP
Yeah Out Run is definitely hard as I have beaten Turbo Out Run which I feel is slightly easier. And not Out Run at all. Also it might be because of being able to continue as with Out Run you can't. lol

I only have it for sega genisis
It is kind of an unforgiving game if you ask me, if you screw up even once you wont win, in my experience...

it ain't that hard to get to the end ;)
