Yes, my last name, Rome knows how to say my last name, even more so than Florence, but then I am Lazian, Grandpa coming from Amaseno. It was worth the move to Rome four (4) years ago just to hear Rome pronounce my last name. Finally for the first time I heard the fullness of my name, the music of it. Dad had told me how Grandpa said our last name, but we were subject to the US American English style that butchered our name so badly I actually did a statutory name change at a sensitive point in my life just to avoid it. I took back my rightful name when I became an Italian citizen years ago. Not surprisingly the only people in Rome who mispronounce my name are those who speak some English and know the US American accent. I simply correct them, I take my ground back. I remind them my name is Italian and we live in Italy. If they continue their cattiness, I inform them that it was my Grandpa's name and he ought to know how to say it, and do they know more than Grandpa, the owner of the name? That shuts them down. I didn't come all this way to lose any ground I had gained in the move.
I truly appreciate your videos. They're sooo helpful, informative & fun. The descriptions have so much depth and soo inviting. I started my plan in November 2019 and was going to make the move no later than Aug/Sept. 2020. Well........ we all know what happen then. Anyway, I'm hoping in a couple of months my dream to move to Milano will become a reality. Thanks for videos Bello!!!!!! 🙏🏼💞🙏🏼😀
Thanks for a wonderful video! You make my heart ache for my return to Italy. I look forward to your content coming in March, but I believe you said 2020(?).
What you said about lunch time in North America is so true. I hardly could breathe today because I take a half hour lunchtime and working from home because of COVID and you have to make lunch hurry up and eat and sometimes I don’t even move away from computer and eat at my desk.
(I state, I'm not very good at english) I loved your podcast about Italy and I was thinking to suggest to you a dish served in Verona, mostly in the east part of the province, it's called Pearà, usually served with cotechino and if you find a good trattoria/restaurant you can taste a fantastic dish of tradituonal cuisine
Living here is frustrating, true. But I would not change it for any other country and I do not think I am a masochist. But I live in Milan and probably here it is a bit of a mixture between Northern and Southern Europe and life is not as slow as in other parts of Italy. For example kids eat in school in canteens with their friends while their parents are working but they are still fed a decent cooked meal and have 2 hours off to cool off with their friends.
I’ve been so impressed by some of the food I’ve seen in the schools here. But yeah milan definitely has an odd mix between the two mentalities. I completely can relate to your sentiments on living in Italy haha 😆
I dream of this for my kids. Last year they were given 15 minutes to eat lunch. And they were five years old! This is typical for a school day lasting from 7:45-3. Makes absolutely no sense!
@@jenniferlindorff9710 where are you from? In my child's school kids between 6 months and 6 years go to school at 9 (at 8.30 between 6 and 11), but there is the possibility to attend pre-school starting from 7.45. Children eat in school and since our Council is very "green" they're only served organic food. Parents can go and check the quality of the food and we do this in turns. The drawback is that we have to pay 4.80 Euros a day for the meal... not exactly cheap. Kids get out at 3.30 or 4.30 pm, but there are after-school clubs till 6 pm. Both pre-school and after school clubs are to be paid by the families (around 200 Euros a year, from September to June). There are both schoolbuses (paid by the families) and "piedibus" whereby local volunteers walk school kids to school, since Milan is one of the worst polluted cities in Europe and many are trying to do something against it. I used to be a volunteer and I had a lot of fun! As Rafael said it is quite common in Italy to take care of one's community, because that is a joy for many of us. Especially important for us is that elderly people spend time with kids... and Milan is no exception in that respect. Grandparents take care of their grandkids if it is possible for them, and nonna's food is the best in the world, much better than mamma's.
@Mimmi I've heard of this pedibus thing but never knew it was being used! What a cool idea! So interesting to hear your input, vey much appreciated. Thank you so much for taking all of the time to share that!
Yes Italy it has it all from the sea to the mountains in no time , the weather is not to bad as well . The food it's the best , with nothing they make something , that is how pizza came about a poor man's food , and Italians do like to look there best , we are after all one of the best fashion places in the world .😉
Hello Raphael! Thank you for this video. I have a question that I’m curious about😆 I’ll hopefully go to Italy soon as a student and I’m curious about the metro. Does the metro arrive on time? I know that buses come late but what about the train stations?
I’m retired. I’m always rushing. Always trying to find time to enjoy life ..ive been hiding at home for a year. Why do I have so much to do!? Art, handmade items, quality food, architecture......enjoying all... not here in Florida. I love getting lost in Venice, away from tourist areas.
That's such a cool idea! Are there any articles about that I can check out? How are you involved with the project? feel free to send me an email or dm on instagram, unfortunately YT sometimes blocks links in comments
The work/life balance in N.A is non-existing, at most people will get together with friends on weekend's - people live to work, they don't work to live. BTW, you need to try stuffed rabbit.
🤦♀️ I dont know how my reply about insurance got into someone else's thread... But yeah since his bankruptcy we had to watch how much we make so we can get onto Medicade (state funded medical care for people outside of the US which is pretty much what italy has but for low income families) so we don't have to pay $10,000 every 6 weeks for that particular medication.

I could never find a decent steak, or even a hamburger in Italy. I love Italian food, but it is rare to find any non-Italian restaurants. In America we like the variety of Mexican, Chinese, Indian, etc. cuisine. The Italians stick to "Italian" and even more, limited to their specific region. Although years ago I went to a "Chinese" restaurant in Rome.
I'm with @chew with this one, I've never found the same variety of international options like I have back in the US... unfortunately the few options I've found have rarely been any good. That's just my personal experience though...
maybe you're the onlybtourist who was looking for a hamburger in Italy. However, you can find a decent steak everywhere (decent you said, sure not the best as i found in Usa bcs the beef there is the best ). But if you'll go to tuscany you'll ha ve the best with "the fiorentina" (Chianina cow meat with the bone) or in piemonte (piemontese cow)
Interesting that rabbit and horse bothers you so much. For me it is the internal organs that bother me a lot. Even here in the States whenever my parents want me to "try" liver again, I gag.
Rafael or Raphael in italian is Raffaele or Raffaello (Raffaello Sanzio was a famous painter and architect of the Italian Renaissance) It is a biblical theophoric name, carried by the archangel Raphael, present in the book of Tobias; comes from the Hebrew רָפָאֵל (Rafa'el), composed of rapha ("he has healed") and El ("God"), and the meaning can be interpreted as "God has healed", "God is the healer", "God's doctor" and so on. Raffaelle with double ll e final e doesn't exist at all. The female version for Raffaello is Raffaella (Raffaella Carrà e.g. is a singer, dancer, television presenter, and actres)
