    Pickett and DJ both had something to do with the incompletion on that first and 15 on the first drive. Pickett threw it way too high, but Diontae didn't reach for it while it was definitely within arms reach for him. About the only defense I have for Pickett tonight other than hoping his rib injury was preventing him from hitting on some of these throws.

    Kenny's tough, plays with heart, and finds a way to win. There's a ton of conventionally good QB's throughout history, that just find ways to lose (Matt Ryan, Philip Rivers, etc.). Kenny (obviously) isn't better than them (yet), but there's pieces here to build with. And I'll take a guy that gets his shit together in the fourth quarter over a guy that falls apart in the fourth any day of the week.
    Also, did Matt Canada just call the...best game of his professional career? Thanks to our beloved Steelers for keeping me on my toes. Keep his ass on the sidelines!

    You know you are allowed to sleep right? I can live with the recap a day or two later lol but oh lordy do I appreciate next morning 5SMU.
    For the record I listened to the Spanish broadcast (way less bias) and they were quick to point out that ribs hurt when you throw and lead you to release earlier which I think explains some of the errant verticality in KPs throws. Still gotta make those if you're going to play, but I can forgive some airballs in a game where he mostly threw well. If GP gets that foot in bounds this game is over early. If CA3 just tries to come back to the ball we get a PI. Receivers not named DJ needed to help out more on some of those plays.
    It's cool though cause 20 points is basically a guaranteed win with this defense.

    Maybe it’s the “don’t think just throw” for Pickett. When it’s the fourth quarter or he is “good” scrambling he lets his instincts kick in. But when in the pocket and or early in the game he’s thinking too much instead of letting his instincts work? Just a thought

    Glad you mentioned the point differential. That's been blowing my mind since week 5. How do you manage a 5-3 record with a _minus_ 30 point differential? The only other team in the league with a winning record and negative point differential are the Jets, and they're 4-3 with a -3 PD. Pittsburgh hasn't managed to win a game by more than seven points so far, and they haven't lost a game by less than 10. Gives me flashbacks to the 1960 World Series when the Yankees outscored the Pirates 55 runs to 27 but the Buccos still won the Series 4 games to 3 (scores: 6-4, 3-16, 0-10, 3-2, 5-2, 0-12, 10-9).

He did have some bad throws, but considering he got knocked out of a game with that rib injury and he came back and was his usual self in the clutch in the 4th quarter, I’d say he did good. Crazy thing is: Kenny under pressure and on the run is more accurate than in the pocket.
    But we see progression here. A lot of it comes from B. Jones on the right tackle spot. We also see a lack of coaching again. Poor execution on offense all day.
    A little credit too Canada. Staying at the sideline was a good idea and the playcalling was okay.

    First team ever with winning record when getting outgained in first 8 games; it makes even a win like this hard to swallow. Kenny is not making big throws at a high enough clip and my patience is running thin with him. The one lasting positive I will take from this game is this: with Jones and Moore both in and starting in this game, we gained 166 rushing and gave up no sacks. That might be the start of something, who knows.

    People call Kenny terrible, and with those missed passes I completely understand why one would say that. However, if that were the case then none of their five wins on the season would be possible.
    Terrible is one thing that Pickett is not. A more fitting description of his performance would be inefficient. Canada is dialing up some good plays, and Kenny just isn't taking advantage of all the opportunities that he could.
    Patience is key here. He definitely understands this, and wants to take it upon himself to improve. Back when Ben was playing, he openly blamed his receivers for misses when in reality he threw a terrible ball. Kenny isn't self-centered like that, and is definitely capable of improving. Don't get me wrong, Ben is a better passer without a doubt. But he has approached this same situation in the past very differently, and Kenny's approach in comparison is a breath of fresh air.

  • @bronzend287
    @bronzend287 7 месяцев назад

    Kenny didn't look good early again, you are correct. While I think the ribs can play, Kenny said he was game ready so I like to consider it a non-factor. The Diontae miss and GP miss at the beginning were particularly hard to watch. While I think the latter may have been a mental thing following Heyward dropping an easy one, Diontae was just a overly high ball (hopefully trying to put it somewhere where either DJ can catch it or nobody does). Either way, those were bad.
    CAIII needs to catch that deep ball. Yes it could be deeper and on the run, but I'm tired of watching receivers (and our D honestly) get two hands on the ball and drop it. Penalties also really stalled us on a lot of crucial downs this game. DJ and Calvin seem to be dropping a ball a game at least though. GP needs to get his foot down too.
    The Canadisms are still rising through. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to see Canada improving and I think his sideline presence increased his impact on the game. My issue is we still have all these silly play calls. It's like we have to play clown ball at least three times a game. I'm happy to see the Jet Sweep as it works every once and awhile,( and WTF WE THREW TO DARNELL!!!,) but there are some questionable plays. I can't stand how it seems like half the time we are throwing to a guy with 4 defenders in front of him, behind the line of scrimmage. I'd be fine with the screens if we were developing them, but why do we have to always rely on speed/strength to outpower someone and get the yards then actually just running routes down the field. It baffles me to see how this offense is designed.
    THE CANADA WILDCAT AT THE END IS THE EPITOME OF THIS. WE JUST MAKE THE WORST CALLS AT THE MOST CRUCIAL MOMENTS.
    Again, I really like the videos, but calling that Kenny throw a quacker while Diontae lets it slip through both his hands is kinda funny. The real reason that throw is incomplete is bc Diontae runs 3 yards back, completely misplacing where he should be for a pinpoint sideline throw. Diontae does this all the time, and while he looked better this week, I think you saw it more last week. Half the time Diontae catches a ball it feels like he runs 5 yards backwards, when if he just ran forwards he could just get more yards.
    At the end of the Day, the start of Kenny's career has been a mirror of Ben's in my eyes. 30ish attempts a game, don't have to do a lot, just enough. Trust the run and D. Maybe I'm crazy, but this just seems like the same exact scenario. Sure, Big Ken isn't Big Ben, but he's good enough.

    • @bronzend287
      @bronzend287 7 месяцев назад

      My questions: Ben threw quackers all the time too and it was fine because he won games. How many games does Kenny have to win with average-to-good (notably not negative) play for him to be good? How many times does he have to do enough to win to be considered good?

    Although i hate Tomlins philosophy on winning a win is a win. And Kenny can win when it matters under massive pressure. My theory is Matt doesnt have allot of diversity in his book so Kenny cant use his speed and arm to create plays. Our O line looked way better and Matt stepping out in the field for the FIRST time in his career as a coach seemed to make a big difference. I told my wife last night this was the first time in a few years I've seen the them score in the first qaurter let alone the first half. I also think Kenny is improving every week with his pateince in the pocket. Obviously our defense was the ticket for a W but if Kenny and bunch can keep the ball just a tad bit longer each drive the d can rest and be at 100% each time they line up and we will be every single QBs worst nightmare pass and run. JPJ is a dog too as a rookie hes gonna make mistakes but as a rookie hes also covering and locking down top receivers. I think this game showed a small glimps of what our offesne can be so lets just hope matt keeps on the field and pushes these boys to be their best. Seeing him get excited with Daniels made me so happy. Thats how a Steelers OC should be and if we win next week it just proves matts presence on the sideline actually means something. I love your takes on the games and I'm sorry i wrote a book but this game gave me hope so so much hope. GO STEELERS!!! 🖤💛 5-3 BABY!!!
