Just because Mariah is a great vocalist doesn't mean she has no weakness. Yes, Mariah is an amazing songwriter and producer. But Whitney also a great actress. She can sing & act. Not to mention Whitney was a great model when she was a teenager.
What makes the song so special is because of its transition from low, belt, up to falsetto throughout the entire chords. Mariah is very specific about her song, NEVER CHANGE THE KEY ARRANGEMENT. This is a perfect example that you should always sing the song in same key or similar. Because changing the melodies means changing the whole song itself. And that what makes her songs so difficult to sing.
