I recieved one of these pens in one of the first battle box mission boxes back around 2014. I have carried it everyday for around 5 years, and use it A LOT. I'm very surprised that the pen is still going strong. It's one of my favorite things I carry. I'm definitely getting another one if my current one finally dies or breaks. I do have a issue with the glass breaker cap coming off in my pocket sometimes, and I'm glad I haven't lost it. Other than that, it has been an awesome piece of kit, and I'd recommend it to anyone. Its a fine piece, yes, but not for self-defense (for me) 'cause it would take too long, in a sudden emergency, to unscrew it fast enough to get the 'weapon' ready in my hand to use it. The whistle, pen, and fire-starter parts are good.
J Jo : You don't have to unscrew it to use as a weapon. If you don't have time to unscrew it, just use the "glass breaker" as he did in the vid. Almost as effective as the writing point.
Charismafire TSA just said the same thing and said they had to take the pen, I told them they could unscrew it and just keep it. They said that would work for them. Bummer
My 'tactical pen' is also a Schrade, but has the added 'practical camouflage' of being PINK. I find that bright colors are not only easier to find at the bottom of my EDC 'handbag', (lol) but less likely to walk away.
I have carried for 6 years and prefer the Schrade SCPENBK. It has a sharper striking point than the SCPEN4BK, and loses the goofy ferrocium rod that no one will ever use. And it costs a little less. These pens are rock solid and will last a lifetime. They can go through secure checkpoints, and are better for personal defense than a handful of nothing.
Should you find yourself in a pickle and need a more aggressive option, set the pen up as though you were going to write with it with the cap screwed onto the back end. This gives you an even sharper tip to work with.
But you don't wanna really hurt anybody unless your a woman. If your a woman being atacked go all out but us men should do just fine with the blunt tip and maybe get a few extra hits before the aggressor is incapacitated

Cane swords are indeed illegal in many places , law enforcement does not check to see if an individual is carrying a sword cane . A well made sword cane is highly effective as an impact weapon . I make carbon fiber and delrin canes . Practitioner of Kali / Arnis & Hwa Rang for 40 + years . ATB
Thank you! I'm a federal worker and no one seems to think of us when it comes to edc defense. I can carry a knife and I do have a tactical pen, but can't carry a gun.
I have been carrying a Rothco tactical pen with a hand cuff key in the end of it for over a year now and I don't go anywhere without it. I can't put my thumb on the end because the cuff key locking pin is sticking out.
I've been able to put my "tactical" pens in a carry on with out a problem...most of the time. I have lost a few to TSA. When I have asked why I can't carry my pen but others are carrying hiking sticks with metal tips they told me that hiking sticks aren't tactical.
TSA just tried to confiscate this pen from me because it could be used as a glass breaker, have flown with it 20 times. I asked if she would just unscrew the tip and throw that away, she did... now to get a new one ordered... you might want to separate that tip while going through TSA

I have had this pen for several months. Both the flint & the striker fell out of its housing and nothing stays tight. Only used that part of it twice. I had to glue it back together and put tape around the threads to fix it. I would not recommend it.
Long before tactical pens, I carried a Parker Pen SS. Some of these pens I worry might taken from you if you tried to enter some government buildings or an airplane with it.
Juan Roldan : They are available on Amazon (Private Reserve Ink 635) . I believe they have a SS tip with tungsten carbide ball. Not only do they write much better than the stock refil, but uncapped and with the cap screwed on the back, the tungsten carbide writing point would have done a lot more damage to the "rubber dummy" than the "glass breaker" feature he was using. Of course, if the glass breaker is all you have time to deploy, that too is very effective. While you are at it, order a extra fero rod replacement. Both are reasonably priced. After constant carry for almost 2 years I finally lost mine. Ordered a new one the same day. Yeah... It's that good ; )

Tactical pens always look too tactical and I wouldn't want to be seen using one in an office. I prefer the CountyComm Embassy pen. They're spendy and they lack some of the "features" of some others, but I think they're classy looking while also still being hefty, solid and full of utility. This "pen" is a tactical tool first and a pen second. I want a pen first that happens to be employable as a heavy, sharp object that won't bend or break.

It's made in Taiwan, which is much better than China. I've been carrying mine now for almost 2 years and it performs flawlessly daily. Go ahead and order the refill ( Private Ink Reserve 635) when you order the pen. It's made in Germany, has a SS point with Tungsten Carbide Ball, and writes 100% better than the stock refill. And with the Tungsten Carbide Ball, it is even more effective as a weapon. JMHO and good luck!
That thing is a brick... more of a Survival Pen than Tactical Pen (splitting hairs) ... can’t see carrying it but worth having in a Survival Bag or Camping.

I don't like tactical pens. They are too heavy for practical writing (imo) and just look ... tactical. People will look at you weird. I do like the Zebra steel pens that Walmart sells. They write ok, don't look weird, and if someone in the office steals it, I won't have to hunt them down and kill them. Especially now that they have a tactical pen to use.

Use a common Bic pen or Sharpie marker .

The whistle is kinda cool but I would take a standard ink cartridges over the ferro rod. No one would ever take this in a daypack or backpacking.
It’s a nice get home piece of kit when you don’t have a lighter or matches. I carry a ferocious rod in my bag.
Zebra f-701 works best for a tatical pen. Solid steel and legal everywhere you go even threw tsa. added protection buy the pencil as well.

I forgot to carry my tactical pen during a two-week trip to Saudi Arabia, left it in my wife SUV's.
