This blew my mind. Naoto Oshima and his creative vision for Sonic are back! And the looks remind me of the very first 8-bit game on the Master System, which is so nostalgic to me…
To me based on the new render we got it looks more like the generations model but if it was more accurate to the 2D artstyle that oshima has. So I am totally fine with what we have right now and it's even better animated and tbh it was always the animation in gens and forces that bugged me the most about that model.
Just checked the website, and it seems like the special abilities are for the emeralds, which is an amazing idea and I’m shocked they haven’t done it faster (also omg good animation)

In terms of multiplayer specifically, I think the camera will zoom out to show the other players if they're left behind, though something like a bubble mechanic would be necessary if a player gets too far behind. I think co-op has the potential to be pretty good! Fang is also a very exciting addition. I'm curious to see if he'll be a playable character, or a boss. Maybe he will be the main antagonist, as a change of pace from Dr. Robotnik being the villian would be nice. Overall, it seems like this will be a great game!
I'm glad that they didn't just throw Classic Sonic out the window after Sonic Origins. I had this fear in me that they would slowly move away from Classic Sonic and kind of... get rid of him for good because of the massive hate he's been receiving from fans, but I'm glad he's here to stay. This game's artstyle and vibrant colors are phenomenal, as someone who really digs colorful games, I definitely hope they keep this artstyle for future 2D Sonic games. I wouldn't have minded a Modern Sonic game, but like I said, it would prove my fear right, and I'd really hate for that to happen. That being said, I'm very happy with what we got, and it looks like I'm going to have a blast! :)
It looks pretty good so far. Glad the Sonic franchise is finally improving again. I’m not the biggest fan of the 2D games normally but it looks really nice so I am definitely gonna give it a try
I'm not sure how to feel so far. The visuals are BEAUTIFUL, I just hope the music and gameplay lives up to it. I also hope that some of the levels have more edge to them as well.
4:32 to 4:35 watch as the sonic runs down the slope, if you look carefully, you can see that he's actually picking up speed. So this isn't a for sure but it's a good sign that momentum is at play here (as it should be)
Didn’t zippo say it uses the physics from mania, but thats not 100% credible. People are saying this game is going to play like sonic 4 and that could not be farther from the truth, but we will never know until the game is in our hands.
Now *this* game? I’m buying it day 1!!!!! It’s really rare that Sonic games give the chaos emeralds actual uses besides turning you super. And coop multiplayer in 2D Sonic games is unheard of, so the fact it’s gonna be here is awesome!!!! Especially for family game nights.
Honestly a good way that they can make this work with multiplayer is if they go the way of Rayman Legends and origins, if they have the camera zoned out enough so you can see a big chunk of the level design and so you don't get lost I think that would be a clever way of making it more enjoyable cuz that's what the vibe I'm getting is it's going to be similar to that I hope at least I wouldn't mind a Rayman like Sonic game
I'm just glad Emerald Hill Zone is getting some love after GHZ got incessantly overused to the point some normies thought it was the first zone in Sonic 2 and Sonic 1. Also playable Amy from the beginning is great (just more confirmation she IS the 4th member of Team Sonic/Heroes).
I'm confident that the physics will be good. You can tell in the gameplay Sonic moves naturally, well beyond anything that Sonic Team has developed recently. Also CHARACTER ANIMATION LOOKS AMAZING!!
The 4 player co op might be like Sonic 4 episode 2's co op, where the camera follows all of the players and teleports the player(s) to the front player if they'releft behind. Because the game has 3d graphics, they can use the camera for unique and dynamic angles. It's likely that the screen will zoom in or out based on how close or far the players are. It's also drop in drop out, so if they die, they may be allowed to come back at the cost of one of the party's lives.
I was watching Premulous Stream the Summer Game Fest and the moment the trailer for Superstars showed up he was disbelief because really wanted it to be modern style, me personally I was shocked at first but I’m becoming more accepting of it, the advertising was great compared to last year’s Frontier’s IGN Showcase, very happy to see Knuckles and Amy finally get Classic 3D Models, they felt missing since Generations and the New Super Mario Bros/Kirby Return to Dreamland style Multiplayer looks cool and neat, glad we can get other Sonic Content on the side while waiting for Frontiers DLC.
Technically Classic Sonic did meet the Wisps in Sonic Generations and Forces. I am really looking forward to this game. It seems they took what made Sonic Mania, 4 (some of 4's positives, I am not saying this game is great, but it had it's moments) and Advanced great and expanded on it.
I Believe the power ups are associated with the emerald, so for each emerald you get you get a new power like the infinity stones, which should have always existed, it makes more since for why there are multiple emeralds and why they are different colors.
The multiplayer seems like when the second player is branching off or falling behind the camera zooms out, also they may make the player in front slower so that the second player could catch up. I actually dont mind this if its the case but they should put an option to just make it splitscreen however they make it
SEGA just loves cosmetics now, don't they? It started with Sonic Forces, then Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania, and now this game is gonna have them. I like cosmetics, I think they're good rewards for playing the game.
For the multiplayer bit I have an idea for how it might work, In other games with multiplayer similar to this, if one of the players get too far away from the other then the screen splits giving both a chance to catch up or do their own thing if I’m right then the reason we didn’t see it in the trailer is that they stayed pretty close Edit: Also for the power-ups I’m 70% sure they aren’t Wisps maybe their something like the elemental shields like Water makes you go through certain walls or fire makes an explosion around you when you use it idk just thinking out loud here 🤷

One of the rail segments in the jungle showed other rail paths to jump to, so while you can stay on the path...it kind of reminds me of how the cart sections work in new dkc games. The game needs legit psychics but doesn't need to play like the old games . It's clearly trying to do something that evolves from the classic formula but not as close to it as Mania was.
You say "it's time" but everyone has wanted 2D and 3D separate for well over a decade. They work great on their own, but together not so much for some reason.

The only games that had bad classic physics is Sonic 4 Episode 1 & Forces even though those two games have momentum at times. The Advance Trilogy, Episode Metal and 2 & Gens had good momentum physics.

Here is what I think I’ll do more multiplayer, I think I will be online. I think for when people are playing on one console it would be like the sonic 2 and 3 style where it’s all one screen. But for online it’s split screen.

I'm still skeptical. I don't want a repeat of Sonic 4. The presentation is *FANTASTIC,* don't get me wrong, but I'm remaining skeptical on the physics side of things until I'm proven wrong.
If you look at the bit of Sonic and friends running down the slope, they're picking up speed as they run down which isn't what happens in games like Sonic 4
When sonic4e1 was revealed it was sVERY apparent that the physics weren't good. Once episode 2s reveal trailer dropped, the first thing they showed was sonic going down hill to prove it had proper momentum and this game does the same at 4:32

This game needs online multiplayer where each player gets their own screen like In Super Mario Maker 2. 4 characters going that fast sharing the same screen will be cumbersome Sonic Advance 3 has the best implementation of co-op in the entire franchise because each character gets their own screen followed by Sonic 4 Ep2 just because it has online multiplayer

I think the multiplayer is like something with online friends you can run the story or race each other also I think the classic sonic model is good

Same tbh both Sonic 4 and Sonic Forces (Classic) left a bad taste when it comes to 2.5D Sonic gameplay.

By multiplayer, it probably means it's gonna be an ONLINE multiplayer.

I think this games multiplayer will be like rayman origins where the screen wont move if somebody is standing still the screen wont move because i feel this game is really story based like rayman

Though I don't approve the price, I won't mind playing this game. It certainly looks cool, and it will probably play well!
All I'll say is if this is a Sonic game for once, without green hill thats already one big reason to be hyped, and whether the environment is inspired by green hill or not as long as it doesn't just straight up rip green hill again and changes it up then I'll take it over reusing it again for the umpteenth time
1:06 this model seems to be different though sonics eyes are sharper and less round

Maybe the Mulitplayer function is going to serve as a drag screen.Whereby each time a character is lacking behind the screen is going to start dragging them closer to the group.Whilst also zooming in and out
From the looks of it I feel like their gonna zoom out the camera further the more the players split apart.

Is Modern Sonic gonna come back with local multiplayer and Freedom Fighters(Sally Acorn as female leader)in Mobius and Micromobius within Forgotten Squad(Tiara Boobowski as female leader).
I'm still skeptical. I don't want a repeat of Sonic 4.

If you look at the bit of Sonic and friends running down the slope, they're picking up speed as they run down which isn't what happens in games like Sonic 4
When sonic4e1 was revealed it was sVERY apparent that the physics weren't good. Once episode 2s reveal trailer dropped, the first thing they showed was sonic going down hill to prove it had proper momentum and this game does the same at 4:32

Edit:For multiplayer they should do like Sonic 3 AIR so we can see them not in the screen or if the second player is not in the screen add a little camera
This game needs online multiplayer where each player gets their own screen like In Super Mario Maker 2. 4 characters going that fast sharing the same screen will be cumbersome
Sonic Advance 3 has the best implementation of co-op in the entire franchise because each character gets their own screen followed by Sonic 4 Ep2 just because it has online multiplayer
I don’t see the corporate thing in the Classic Sonic model. He looks fine to me.
