Small update, the Arenado luxury AAV would be $21.1M per year, not $25.5M -- still a ton of money. This is assuming the Cardinals don't kick in any money -- the Yankees would have to give some value in prospects to convince them to pay it out. If they kicked in $15M, that would lower the luxury salary to $16.1M per year, but do we really want to be paying Arenado that much for 3 more years?
To my fellow Yankee fans clamoring for us to acquire Arenado for his defense despite his declining production at the plate, I would simply point out that Josh Donaldson’s defensive stats at third base in nearly every category (defensive runs saved, fielding %, etc.) during his two years with the Yanks were as good or better than Arenado's during that time despite Donaldson's continuing struggles on offense. And yet, by the end of Donaldson's tenure, Yankee fans wanted to run him out of town and couldn't see him leave fast enough. I can easily see a repeat of this happening if we get Arenado and if he too falters on offense, with the same people currently clamoring for us to trade for him ranting and raving on this board a year from now about why we ever got him and how Cashman is an idiot who needs to go, etc. Also keep in mind that while Donaldson was a two-year commitment, Arenado would be for three years. To be clear, I'm not necessarily *_against_* us getting Arenado; I think there are valid arguments pro and con. All I'm saying is to be careful what you wish for.
Fielding sucks, he can’t run the bases, and his bat was non existent in the regular season. I’m not saying arenado is the answer but why would you move Gleyber to third when you have Waldo and peraza there. They have experience at the position
Gleyber’s lack of range is compounded by his mental lapses in the field. There’s not a single Yankees fan who hasn’t cringed at seeing him botch plays where the opposition caught him napping or cutting corners at the most inopportune times and was able to take advantage.
I'm confused, you mentioned at 10:20 that the Yankees "restructured Max Fried's contract to bring in more talent", but for luxury tax purposes, that shouldn't matter, as the luxury tax calculations are based on AAV. You don't get to choose when the money is applied. It is applied evenly over the length of the contract.
We added an 8th year which brings the average of the annual value down because the money is spread over more years. So instead of 7 years at over 30 mil, it comes to something like 27.5 over 8. What you're referring to is frontloading or backloading contracts, which doesn't affect the AAV.
Hell no to arenado. His defense is great but it almost feels as if we are just trying to fill out the rest of the team with vets who handle their positions, but we need some GM savvy to come into play. Boone and his staff need to change their player prep for the basic stuff, and this applies to the minors as well. Getting vets who have had gold gloves in the past does not cover over the facts that the players are not being pushed or coached proper. SO MANY TIMES I would watch the game just wondering why certain shifts were applied for example: wtf are u shifting the infield with a sinkerball pitcher on the mound?!?!?!??!?! These are the little things that set players up for failure. Glad that yall mentioned Arenados metrics that show the slow bat. Nolan is a righthanded pull hitter....and that in Yankee stadium can become Josh Donaldson. Remember, Josh Donaldson hit 25plus homers the year before we got him.
great comment. the Yankees are seemingly unable/unwilling to imagine a world in which they coach and develop the major league talent. stunning. completely unforgivable
100% Gleyber before Arenado at 3b. Probably need a 2 year contract, and I don't want him to be right back in a walk-year anyway. And yes, there is no rush. But I have already been looking at this last piece through a "Gleyber Test": is this new guy going to give me more than Gleyber? If not . . . . Because I know that in October I don't mind seeing Torres walk to the plate.
Curry said yanks are out on Nolan and Bregmen. Sounds like they are done until they dump Stroman. Kind of what you guys were thinking. I hope they get creative and find someone for 2b/3b.
Manaea back to the mets wow i thought he would go elsewhere but he had a really good year for the mets last year. so he's really comfortable there and had a lot of success so a reunion made sense.
Ryan. U keep mentioning Gavin Lux and Gleyber. Gavin Lux defense and issues turning double plays are well documented. He has not even blossomed with the bat yet. We all are reaching rn because there just isnt any clearcut targets and the options are slim pickings. PLUS do we want Cashman thinking outside the box lol getting IKF for SS and Donaldson for 3rd by jettisoning Urshela just to get rid of Gary Sanchez who could hv been non tendered if anything was Cashman thinking out the box lol. Thats why the safe choice is getting a Brendan Rodgers type player unless we can pry Brendan Donovan from St.Louis.
I buy the argument that Gleyber at 3b would help the defense. But I would argue that Gleyber does not solve the leadoff problem. The reason he worked at leadoff was he was hitting in front of Juan Soto and was seeing pitches in the zone. We would have to move Judge to the 2nd spot to get that effect, and they're both righties. Even if that doesn't bother you, it's not what Boone is going to do. He wants lefty/righty. He will bat Bellinger after him, and Bellinger doesn't scare anyone into the zone. Once Dominguez clicks, he's an obvious leadoff candidate, but we have yet to see that happen.
Arraez. He's exactly what this defense doesn't need, but exactly what this lineup needs. Lefty contact hitter with an OBP between .340 and .360. Would benefit from Yankee Stadium. Slots right into the leadoff spot, and will not cost us top prospects. 5.6 on BBTV. I would expect it to cost double that with the Yankee tax, but that still wont cost us top prospects. Keep Jazz at 3b and put him at 2b. I hear the cons of this, but there's no perfect solutions at this point. We need an impact bat that can get on base in front of Judge, and the options just aren't out there if we can't land a Donovan or someone like that.
Actually The Yankees they officially announced Loaisiga Yesterday! We had Soto last year and still didn't win it all so when you lose big offense you shore up pitching and defense which we did because that's how you beat good hitting! we still have Judge Stanton and Jazz and added Bellinger which could easily be 40 some odd HRs for Bellinger! Judge Is underrated defensively that one drop in the WS doesn't define him or it shouldn't
Those who criticized missed/failed trade hv to understand that for trade to happen both parties must agree on value. Also if possible teams prefer not to trade within division n within same league. So thats y the tucker, naylor, nat lowe looked remote but this Arenado may b possible
You guys sell me on someone/something new every episode lol. Torres at 3B is so interesting. Yankees don't make it the world series without Torres' bat in the leadoff spot. I think as a last resort situation I would prefer that much more than trading for Arenado. Praying Cash is able to get Correa, Suarez or Donovan for 3B somehow though..
The Yankees want no part of Torres returning. Jack Curry has said it. Cashman has strongly inferred it indirectly. He's lazy and a bonehead way too often. 90% of the time there was a mental mistake on the bases or in the field the last few years Torres was in the middle of it.
Agreed. And to mention Gleyber Torres at this point pains me. That dude represents the opposite of what we are trying to do this offseason...he brain farts every aspect of his game. Ive never seen a player that gifted be that soft, played scared, would slow down running home to shield his face lol like wtf get hit in the face and score yo
I’ll love your opinions, I believe this scenario is the dream scenario but actually very possible 👇🏻 I’ll trade Gill and Spencer Jones for bohm. Third base would be solved for the next 7-10 years. (2026 season) Move Cody to 1st , Domínguez to CF, keep judge in RF, add Kyle Tucker to LF … Battling line up- 1. Bohm (3B) 2.Bellinger (1B) 3.Tucker (LF) 4.Judge (RF) 5.Stanton (DH) 6.Domínguez (CF) 7.Wells (C) 8.Jazz (2B) 9.Volpe (SS) Potential ALL Gold gloves in the infield. Potenial ALL Gold gloves in the outfield (at least likely with Judge and Tucker)- the jury is still out regarding Domínguez fielding. If Bellinger has a great year, We’ll probably extend him for 4 years at 23.5 per year. Yes, this is a Discount, but a good deal for both sides. I believe teams wouldn’t commit over 23.5M Per year considering his streaky career. We sign tucker for 9 years 30-35M per year. Bohm resigns or gets extend in his last year of ARB 2026 for 7 years 130M 18.5 M per year. Don’t let Williams walk, sign him to a 6 year 100M contract. That would make him a top 3 paid closer in the league. Stanton’s 2027 and 2028 contract actually drops to 14-15Million a year, dropping his salary 17 million per year. DJ’s contract expires in 2027, if possible, trade him covering 10 million of the 15 million owed, that saves the Yankees 5 million. With Stroman, DJ’s (covering 10 million of his 15million via trade) and Stanton’s salary dropping from 32 to 15M over the next two years (after this season)- the Yankees essentially will have enough money to make all these moves happen, and solidify this team over the next 5 -6 years to truly contend for the World Series each year, and most likely win. They’ll have the best defense in the MLB (infield and outfield) a Top 3 pitching staff, Top 3 bullpen, plus a top 3 (if not) the best lineup in baseball , with Volpe under team control over the next 4 years, Domínguez over the next 5 years, Wells over the next 5 years, Schimt over the next 4 years. Ideally, Soto has a “down year”- batting 280 with 25- 30 HRS (consistent with his career average) - while still a good year, the sentiment would be, he wasn’t worth 51-52M per year over 15 years. This sentiment would help correct the market to more reasonable contracts , which would help us not overpaying for Tucker. Additionally, It wouldn’t hurt if VLAD has a down year by his standards as well. Also, I love Tucker playing his last year in Chicago. He’ll have no one to protect him in the lineup- so theoretically he shouldn’t have a monster year before he hits free agency. That’s my spiel
Alex is way off on Arenado's AAV hit (and Fried). If Cardinals pay nothing, 32 + 27 + 15 = 74 -10 still owed from Rockies = 64 / 3 = 21.33. Cardinals pay 15M, 64-15 = 49 /3 = 16.33 AAV. Arenado would only have to be worth 2 WAR per year average to be worth that. Also, backloading of Fried contract is irrelevant, the AAV is calculated from the total value of the contract divided by years. The Fried AAV hit in 2025 is 27.25M. Please educate yourself about how luxury taxes work before misleading your viewers, or just use Fangraphs.
I 100% see what you're saying, but assuming the Yankees give up enough value to even get the CArds to pay it down that much, you want to pay a declining Arenado, who's a bad fit in the Bronx, $16.1 million in luxury tax until he's 37?
@firesideyankees They offered 15-20 to the Astros so it's possible. If it's still worth it is debatable, but it's not bad imo. But I'd rather have Ha-Seong Kim.
Yeah, why have another gold glove in the infield. Age bias is prevalent here. Both him and goldie will fill a weakness. Plus Jazz is better at 2nd than gleybar was. Strong infield is not the m.o.of the yankees.
No to Torres at 3rd. He did not want to play there and he has zero range. Your stretching your knowledge to make that work. Lets hope Cash does not value this opinion for Torres at 3rd base. No way!!!
No to gleyber wherever. I disagree with fireside today. How can u say that u can deal with Gleybers defense and mental lapses if he hits the way he did?? He did not exactly light shiet up. His D and baserunning loafing and unwarranted nonchalance out value anything he does with the bat. Look, Brendan Rodgers is a gold glove winner who hit more hrs higher average than Gleyber last year who will prob cost 8 mill max and wont play scared. Stopgap till Bo Bichette or Murakami come into play next yr
You don't need to have excellent range to play 3rd base. I think if he's willing to make the move he's better than any other option out there on offense. Would be cheap and only for a year.
Why do you care so much about the money? It's not your money and how do you know Steinbrenner won't be willing to cross the $301 million threshold for the right player? Signing Bregman or trading for Arenado is the final move that they should make to complete the roster.
Sign Breckman and pay the tax for the best chance for a WS title. Judge is not getting any younger. The time is now. He gives you both offense and defense
you are selling Brendon Donavan hard..I compared him to Arrenado these two last year are almost the identical at bats HRS RBIs AVG they are so close..so forget about the money offensively they are the same..yes one is younger and has upside but upside does not win baseball games,,,IF and its a big if they get hime cheap it only costs money not top players that to me is risky ..with the older guy that is risky..did not Stanton increase his bat speed last year...
Brendan Rodgers for 2nd might be the play although watching Jazz highlights at second excite me. Jazz's arm is great at 3rd, but his athleticism plays more at 2nd. So kind of torn. And pls how can yall mention Gleyber? Its done. His baseball IQ is lower than Alex Jacksons batting average. Thats low
All of you guys talking about bregman didnt listen they dont have the money to sign bregman stfu with that bs already. They just said for arenado the cardinals would have to eat money but you want a guy thats gonna get 25 million a year
If you want to be really disappointed take a look at Goldy's lefty righty splits. He hit .230 with a whopping .280 OBP vs righties last year. That's 75% of his at bats. Should have gotten Naylor and went Belli, Judge, Naylor 2,3,4 in the lineup.
@@AobchadI'm not saying he didn't have an incredible career but if you aren't worried about his decline after watching Donaldson and Rizzo we are just on different pages. Father time gets all of us. We don't have many prime years of Judge and Cole left so I would have preferred a Naylor or Lowe. Especially since they are lefties. Maybe Cleveland wanted the world from us for him. But both were traded for peanuts.
Please slow down when talking.. breathe man! Hard to understand all you are saying and you mumble your words. Love the content but hard to listen and understand when he won’t slow down.
If fast is how yall articulate then keep doing you! No need to change for viewers unless ur mumbling. Sometimes there are many things u want to say at the same time that make us rush to get points out before we forget the next. At those times, maybe small pauses to collect thoughts but I dig the intensity. But pls what is with this Gleyber talk lol cmon now. Ive watched every effin game and that soft as diarrhea player is worse than Chuck Knoblauch, who had defensive yips.
I agree you guys are great, just maybe excited to talk and get your pints out there. I am also very excited about these moves and looking forward to a great season. Wasn’t meant to be rude just a thought. Either way I’ll always listen and enjoy. Merry Christmas guys!

so we would be saving money!
@@Leoluca_Randisi do we really want to be paying $16M for the next 3 years for Arenado tho?

Only difference is age and a lot of fans didn’t like him from his previous teams before he ever joined Yankees. Also Yankees fans are a tough crowd.
arenado would be a mistake... 3 years left and his offense dropped off the cliff

@Keemsashyelbows font want him for his often mental mistakes horrendous base running and lazy fielding. We shoul not settle. We should be all in
Tucker is not a guaranteed. He will go to the highest bidder. And I don’t think Yankees will go that far the same they did with Soto
Defense lost us the World Series !!!!
Acquiring Arenado would set the franchise back, enough of these old and washed players
No to Arenado and Gleyber, Yes to Ha-Seong Kim, Rengifo or Donovan
Slow down Cashman with all these if’s now Cody, Paul, Stanton, DJ on and on
Why do you care so much about the money? It's not your money and how do you know Steinbrenner won't be willing to cross the $301 million threshold for the right player? Signing Bregman or trading for Arenado is the final move that they should make to complete the roster.
Sign Breckman and pay the tax for the best chance for a WS title. Judge is not getting any younger. The time is now. He gives you both offense and defense
At this point, I will accept a trade offer a roll of toilet paper for Marcus Stroman
you are selling Brendon Donavan hard..I compared him to Arrenado these two last year are almost the identical at bats HRS RBIs AVG they are so close..so forget about the money offensively they are the same..yes one is younger and has upside but upside does not win baseball games,,,IF and its a big if they get hime cheap it only costs money not top players that to me is risky ..with the older guy that is risky..did not Stanton increase his bat speed last year...
Thats low
They should get bregman
All of you guys talking about bregman didnt listen they dont have the money to sign bregman stfu with that bs already. They just said for arenado the cardinals would have to eat money but you want a guy thats gonna get 25 million a year
Trade volpe ,put peraza at short, Cabrera at 3rd, Nolan is dead weight like goldy
Its the only way signing goldy makes any sense . I dont love the trade but i gas to be dne
It's all about money these days.
No Bregman yes
NO GLEYBER!!!!
If you want to be really disappointed take a look at Goldy's lefty righty splits. He hit .230 with a whopping .280 OBP vs righties last year. That's 75% of his at bats. Should have gotten Naylor and went Belli, Judge, Naylor 2,3,4 in the lineup.
@jor. You might be correct, but I think the Yankees like Rice and feel they can balance the 2. Plus, Goldy is a superior defensive player.
He was a mvp 2 years ago. Last year he had one bad half. Out of 12 years you’re criticizing one bad half. 😂
Cardinals kick in $35m
Lmao you have no clue how the luxury tax works
Cool, so let me know
No Arenado
Get breakman
Get bergman
Please slow down when talking.. breathe man! Hard to understand all you are saying and you mumble your words. Love the content but hard to listen and understand when he won’t slow down.
We literally slowed down A TON today on purpose lol
@@firesideyankeesyou're a good man. Absolutely understood everything.
@@ryanlindsey07will work on taking more pauses! We tried hard today haha will keep working 🙏
Noooooo! Don’t trade for him. Nooooooo
Why even make a video about it?. We all know it's not going to happen
Booooo no
The answer is no bro
