Howdy Andrew, We call the Kombi a VW bus here. I remember as a kid growing up in California during the 60's that the hippies loved them. They would paint them up with flowers and peace signs and the like. People around here sometimes dig up heel plates with hearts on them. Legend has it that they were worn by hookers but others say they're just civil war era heel plates which came stamped with a variety of designs. I've dug up a few toe taps but a heel plate remains a bucket lister for me. Cool find. My favorite was the ladies buckle with leaf design. That was very nice. It should have been made of silver. Lots of nice artifacts found in this excellent video. That is the first time I've enjoyed the inevitable trek back to Ute. What a beautiful spot. Our winters look very different. None of our trees would have leaves on them and pretty much everything else would be brown. No spiders in the winter here though. We do have a spider called a wolf spider that is that size here. I was in the shower once and saw something move out of corner of my eye. I turned to look at it and there was one of those hand sized spiders on the shower curtain a couple inches from face. I'm a 65 year old man but I made a noise you would have sworn came out of a 6 year old girl. I had to jump out of the shower to get a container to catch it in so I could release it back outside later. Hope you and Viv are doing well and having fun. Catch you on the next one. Your buddy, Roelf
Gday Roelf. Glad you enjoyed the video. Some of the toys you can get out of the ground are cool. As the years pass, we see less and less of the old combis on the road. Happy with one out the ground. I think I have one love heart shaped heel plate in my collection and have heard the stories of the ladies of the night. Yes that leafy buckle was a ripper and a pity it wasn’t all silver but a great find anyway. It was a beautiful afternoon when I walked back to the Ute. Some winter days here can be just glorious. Not really a big fan of spiders. I don’t squeal when one gets on me but my body does emit a particular noise. Anyone that knows me will know that I have come into contact with a spider when they hear it. Once I through a brand new running chainsaw when a big huntsman spider ran up the moving chain and half way up my arm. My Grandfather was furious. It was a BIG spider. Anyway, enough about the stuff of nightmares, Viv and I are both well and hope that you and Mrs Roelf are too. Take care mate 🦘🦘👍😁
Got some cool little finds there mate, nice bit of silver too, I do like that ornate button but you can keep the big rudy spider, have to watch your step out there what with holes and stuff that wants to eat you 🤣, anyway an enjoyable episode Andrew, say hi to Viv. ATB Bill and Julie X 👍😊❤
Gday Bill and Julie. There were some good things to pop up. Over time you do learn to dodge the shafts, spiders, drop bears and hoop snakes. Oh and only pat the domesticated riding roos. The wild ones don’t like. They can rip a man in two with a single kick. Apart from all that, down here is a great place to be. Lots of area to detect. Thanks for watching mate. Take care 🦘🦘😁👍
Mr A, we both had them on the desk in Primary school. LOL Now I have seen to the end, I am astounded you got it intact. I still have my pen/nib from 1962.
Perfect Saturday night viewing (UK) Andrew mate! You had a good few & interesting finds there pal, and I so enjoy your episodes & explanations. Jermyn Street (London) where your button probably came from is still a very famous street that sells high end shirts to this day. When I was a cool City worker (days with money and before kids) back in the 90’s & early 00’s I always bought my shirts there from Thomas Pink and the like! Not now, I’m hoodies & joggers 😂😂😂 anyway, loved the ink well too…..but not that flippin’ spider! Great watching as always my friend, hope you & Viv are well
Gday Marcus. Very glad you still enjoy watching. Thanks for the info on the button. One little thing can bring back lots of history and memories. And I found it in the ground in the bush on the other side of the planet from where it came. Got to love the hobby. Spiders are ok as long as they are more than a foot away from your face. Any closer, suddenly noises start to be emitted from the body and some folks call them a little unmanly. We are both ok. Hope you and yours are too. Take care mate 🦘🦘😁👍
I learnt write with ink and pen at primary school. When i got to tech school we used a fountain pen. It was about then also that biros came out. Great video. Cheers John
Yeah! i'd be keeping the combi too! You'd be wanting thick sole's on your shoes with tacks like that pointing at your feet! ive found quite a few spoons bent the same way, I wonder if it was some long forgotten ritual, like throwing your glass into the fire place, or someone saying that food was terrible, look what it did to the spoon! An abundance of broaches and badges and buttons, liked the little silverish one! I definitely remember the ink well's, I think i even remember using them, and the blotter to soak up the excess ink and dry the writing, but not as a commonly done thing, pencils and pens mostly! Cheers Andrew!
Gday Wayne. Yep it was a very good hunt. The heel plate was a cool find as was the combi. The spoons do take a hiding at times. Will find them occasionally where the bowls have been bent up to scoop gold out of crevices. We only had the desks in primary school. Pencil and only pens if you got your license to use it. Take care mate 😁👍
Great selection of relics, etc there Andrew from the scenic goldfields region .I'm also showing my age as I remember the wooden school desks with the inkwell on the top corner.Lucky you saw the spider before walking into it! Great video.Cheers mate.
The ink well has brought back lots of memories for a lot of folks. I’m glad I spotted the spider too. When you walk into a web it is the first thing you worry about. “Where is the spider”. Thanks for watching 😁👍
Hi Andrew that was a smashing day out with some amazing finds. was'nt that a silver Edward seven 3 pence ? Oh and that ink well brought back some memories 🙂 Tony
Great stuff, I’d say the heel is from a tap dancing shoe, that would have been the entertainment back in the old days, possibly a dancing girls shoe heel
D'you think we should tell your buddy Roelf that it was a plastic hanging spider so he doesn't feel too put off about the Australian bush?! On the flip side though, were those beautiful scenes as the sun dropped. Lots interesting relics again Andew and those English 3d are such a pretty coin. Those two seater wooden desks with the ink well holes were the ones that had lift up lids for your books and schoolwork - they were deadly if dropped onto cold fingers!
Gday Deb. We could tell Roelf that but I think he already knows that spiders that size eat small too and wallabies. The 3ds are a beaut coin. There were always some injuries with those old desks and most people remember them. There was always someone in class who would slam them closed and scare everyone too. Hope you are getting out for a swing. Take care mate 😁👍
An excellent day detecting out detecting with the master detectorist. What are the chances of finding a intact inkwell. Great video of the Aussie bush as well. Well done mate . Look forward to your next adventure 👍
Gday Cindy. It was crown land. I have a Victorian miners right so I can detect on it and keep what I find. Google maps will show you crown land. Good luck 😁👍
