- It's good to take on a challenge and I think this vintage Masters or the Universe Skeletor is going to be a fun one. Most people would see this as a pile of junk. With some time and care let's see if we can get this Skeletor figure back in a displayable state.

Within one hour of this video's public release it became the most viewed video in the history of this channel. By tens of thousands of views. Within one year you've gone from 50,000 subscribers to over 125,000. What on earth is going on with this channel? I'm glad to see the growth but something unusual is happening.
It's great people are finally finding my channel after all these years. They have a lot to catch up on!
You did a great job cleaning this figure up, and it WAS worth the effort. 100%. Everyone needs a challenge. A mountain to climb. Life is all about that, and that's where all the fun lives! This figure now looks fantastic thanks to your efforts!
You entertain & help so many viewers & creators. Thanks for your inspiration!
Thanks, much appreciated 🙏
I appreciate you fixing toys others might throw away. They’re not making any more vintage Skeletors after all.
A Hobby is always worth the time, because this is what we need to escape from all the bad things going on in the world. 👍👍
Beautiful work 👍
Thanks. It's always pleasing to save a figure that looks this bad.
I can't think of another channel out there that shows you how to vaseline Skeletors bum as well as this Dave 😂
In all honestly, these are the videos I love, when a toy to 99.9% would be thrown away and you give them new life. Thanks Dave.

What a result!!! , just goes to show some patience , and a good clean can rescue pretty much any toy, image how many people would have just chucked those bits away.
Looking at the boots/legs/head I think this was originally a Dragon Blaster Skeletor. Looks great though! Nice to see him fixed up. And I wouldn't have a lot of vintage MOTU characters without takingnthe time to clean and fix broken dirty ones.
Dragon blaster feet have and extra bit sticking out of the back and generally have a solid head.
@toypolloi ok. The head looked like it might be solid to me in the shots I saw. And I was thinking the existing paint on the boots fit the Dragon Blaster more. There were variants on the boot paint too. My mistake.
@@looselycollected7505 Yeah, these are rubber heads. There are so many variants it's really hard to know what goes with what. Most of mine are just a mish mash of parts to make them look good.
Wow, I give you a ton of credit for this one, that much paint removal requires an extraordinary amount of patience to pull off. Well done. 👍
You're very welcome!
Imagine if someone saw this and decided to go up to some guys working on a car holding their He-Man toys and a cup and asking to borrow some brake fluid. :)
I’m just amazed by what you do and appreciate the work. That Skeletor looks amazing.
Thanks 👍
Wow! That one was just covered!!😳 Do you ever wonder what the original owners were going for with their customization? And how it might have looked when first done. Honestly, and all black Skeletor might look kinda cool with some red accents… Might be a job for Toy Polloi🤔 Excellent work on the restoration, Dave. Cheers!!
Fantastic work, seems really worth it as you said rather than him ending up in the bin
Wow! That was impressive rescue TB. I'm just getting ready to clean up several of my childhood He-Man figures, some of which have some paint on them that I need to remove and some need the leg barbells installed, so this video came just at the right time.
#SkeletorArmy
I think an electric toothbrush would do a more thorough job in getting the paint off.
Nice job. Well worth the work.
I am totally blown away !
Great work ❤
Brake fluid is oilly ,it will not effect the spring mechanism at all but lubricant it.
Seeing these videos is nostalgic for 2 years ago…lol.
I went AWOL, but I am glad to see you better than ever!
Thanks, and welcome back 😀
Poor Skeletor head. He got roughed up badly
There wasn't a doubt in my mind that you could bring this Skeletor back from the dead!
Very good work again 😀👍 and also a very helpful video.
Glad it was helpful!
Exacly how I feel about things, why throw away something that can be repaired. You get the joy of giving it a new life. Besides, I feel safer if Skeletor isn't in charge of Junk Pile Mountain.
Great job as always! More for your army i havent add one to my army in a while
I didn't think it could be done. Awesome!
Thank you! Cheers!
This is impressive work!
a trick to refurbish plastic surface on car outside trim details is to use a heat gun. they use to get from black to white after a long time in the sun. the heat gun will make them look as good as new again. it may be something to try instead of the vaseline. you do not want to melt the plastic, just the amount of heat to make the aged surface to disappear.
I've seen this used as well. I think vaseline is safer for most people to use.
Great restoration Dave, so glad you were able to use the original head too; just makes it more authentic 🙂
Thank you! Cheers!
I like to paint miniatures and have used a product called Simple Green to strip paint.
It works on both plastic and metal miniatures. You just have to leave it submerged for a few days. The paint will literally flake off. It might help you out in a few projects. I think someone has even made a tutorial on RUclips. I'm not sure if it is available on your side of the world, though.
Thanks for the tip. I don't think you can get that in the UK.
i always use wooden skewers to remove marks feel like its a very light abrasion and you can single out rather that rubbing parts that are not needed
You are so patient dude. If I had to scrape all that paint off I might've been sick with the stress. I'm not even joking. Fantastic results man 👍
Thanks. Toy repairs often require patience. Then so does toy collecting.
Another one saved, nice work!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Amazing how many people do bad DIY paintjobs on action figures, also the original paint must be pretty good & tough to survive that fluid process ijs. Nice to see more plastic tools, metal ones are a little hard on vintage plastic I find.😉
Great job TP, never too late to restore them.😁
Impressive restoration! And: one more Skeletor in your collection... :)
Absolutely brilliant yet again, amazing 😮😮💀 💀
A tedious job Dave but, as always, you do a splendid job fixing any vintage action figure that needs some care. Thank you! I’ve always enjoyed your work. It has become a therapy session for me. 🙏🏻
Great video man!! Congrats on the huge recent growth!
Appreciate it!
Just a reminder that the plastic mobile phone tools are generally called ‘spudgers’.
Thanks 👍
I know you try to keep your tools to a minimum, but have you ever thought of getting a baby bottle dryer? I used our kids old one to dry some grimy toys i washed up. It kept the screws from rusting.
If you already have one it sounds like a good idea.
Perfect
Hey Dave
Very nicely done, he looks great.
I hope you have an awesome weekend.
Take care of Yourself 😊
Thanks 👍
I was concerned this was going to be a version of Triggers Broom. Very good job as usual. Thanks for the entertainment
Glad you enjoyed it
I’m going to have to try that Vaseline trick on a custom toy I did last year. I used a paint stripper that was supposed to be safe on plastics and the black plastic went super cloudy. May not work, as the result was way worse than here, but it’s always with a shot. I ended up just going over it with black sharpie, but the purplish tint kind of bothers me, even if it’s barely visible.
It's always worth a try. This works well when the plastic has gone a bit white-ish.
Amazing
Thanks
Ever put brake fluid in ultrasonic cleaner and soak the pieces in there. Has anyone?
Damn nice job!
are you supposed to be handling that brake fluid barehanded? I thought some of those car fluids were carcinogenic
If it’s glycol ether based he should be fine as long as he doesn’t drink it.
Gloves would be a great idea. I lost my father to acute myeloid Leukemia. It's absolutely not worth the risk.
It just occurred to me that this channel and Baumgartner Restoration are essentially the same kind of channel, just with different objects and budgets.
Thanks. The idea with Toy Polloi is to show people how to fix toys without the need for expensive equipment or tools. I want 99% of people watching to feel they can have a go. Cheers
@@toypolloi ❤️
I have a 1960 Shi Joe /Action Man that's still sitting in the parts bin where I literally have to do something like this I forget if one of the arms or legs was painted and they painted the face to look like Groucho the Clown if I got the name of the character correctly in a nutshell they very poorly painted with model paint on the GI Joe figures face not sure which one of the 1960s Action Man figures it is due to all the paint. Likewise I have a male away 1980s near mint condition Sergeant Slaughter legs where somebody took gray model paint and painted a slash across the GI Joe logo on the legs for whatever reason and gray paint and I've got several heads that somebody painted white from 1980s GI Joe was pretty sure you were using brake fluid but I couldn't remember for sure and haven't even looked the video up. Love how this came out
Great Work Man! Congrats too you now have your You Tube Play Button and Many New Subscribers! Well done Sir Well done! God Bless You!
Thank you very much!
🍻🇺🇸🇬🇧 Dave. I can't believe how good the head an face came out. I thought that original face was lost forever. No idea why I used my childhood skeletor. I chewed on his hood why it's trimmed
Thanks again Jon. You would be amazed what can be saved. Let me know if you want the head sent back over. Cheers
@@toypolloi you keep Dave.. I have my others. In good hands with you💪🇺🇸🍻🇬🇧
A great job as always. I wonder if it was the same child who made it their mission to chew all the Skeletor skirt belts?
With those spares was thinking with a bit of 3d printing to make connectors you could have a ... Skodulok (Modulor / Skelelok etc... )
Questions? Would placing legs in hot water to soften abit help with adding in the leg bands?
You can do that, I find that it makes little difference myself.
Man that looks great. I know the new Skeletor not an original but the 10 big size I was wondering about fixing him up a bit. I like the size of him but his staff is hollow and the paint apps don't do it justice and so I got mine kinda apart and sitting around waiting for me to tackle it but I was hoping to see someone else work on it so I can better tackle mine. If you ever see one at the store maybe you might want to give him a go. I know the new cartoon got him in this lime green ooze coming out and the figure doesn't look like the box art which is amazing. I normally can't find the smaller and course I like the size of this figure instead.
By the way I’m glad that oil you used worked didn’t thing it was going to come off the way you kept scraping, 😅😅😅 but it did finally for sure happy it did, 👌👌👌
my favorite toys is he man
So much dedication for just one simple, common old toy...and that's Toy Polloi! Good stuff Dave.
Ohh Man before the cleaning, that Skeletor looked so CREEPY .....
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I'm curious, why brake fluid over something like rubbing alcohol? Does the latter damage plastic, or does it just evaporate too quickly?
Break fluid works great and removing the paint, and only the paint. When something is covered like this I find it the best option.
Some of the paint removal on the body looks like you were painting it black and reversed the video. Pretty cool
Would the sonic cleaner remove the loose paint after it’s been dunked in brake fluid?
It might do. The paint still takes a bit of shifting to get it off. But it would be worth a try.
After the break fluid I was thinking... why not use a pressure washer, but I am not talking the one we use outside... I was referring to the portable dental kit that have the pressure device for our teeth. Maybe that could help removing the paint more hassle free after the break fluid submersion.
How many people have access to one of those?
@@toypolloi They now cost less than ever, I understand the availability to other people, but your craftsmanship may benefit from the use of one. It is like some other fan like me suggesting you to buy a 3d printer to make things easier for you. No harm, no foul.
I like to show what can be done with as little expense as possible if I can. Most people will be wanting to do these things as cheaply and easily as possible. If you have one, then it's certainly worth a try.
@@toypolloi Yeah, I know that you use methods that the common Joe can use at home with stuff that we have in our house. After all I have seen practically all of your videos in your catalog and have used many of your tricks specially the ones involving lighting fluid. Keep the good work!
Hi there Toy Polloi was wondering what's the best way to remove scuff marks from toys? Thanks
It depends on the scuff. Magic erasers are good on some, but go careful as they can remove other paint as well. Lighter fluid is also very good. You will see me use that a lot. Cheers
🤘🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🤘🏼
All of this know how pays off when it's a figure you can't just go pick up for a few dollars
11:13 anyone know if a trick like that might help work on retrobrighted Lego canopies? I know it’s a completely different process, but . . . Not sure if the floor polish trick will cover up the whitening of my solid blue Lego canopy.
It's worth a try, but I think that is a much deeper issue.
Hi Dave, would that Dot 4 brake fluid stuff be suitable for use on a Transformers G1 Starscream? About 20 years ago I tried repainting one into a Sunstorm and I wasn't particularly happy with the end result. I think I used Humbrol enamel paints, but I can't fully recall now. Would be nice if I could restore him back to Starscream.
It's worth a try. I have used it to remove enamel paints from Action Man before.
@@toypolloi Cheers Dave!
Duct tape is good for removing scraps of paint in a non-invasive way.
dot fluid makes my hands itchy gloves may be needed.
Some people can be allergic, for others it is fine. Just make sure to wash your hands well after use.
I've noticed something about my skeleton which I got in 1981. Mine has a purple loincloth, not black. Anybody else have this, too?
There are a few variants on him. I think I have that one in my collection.
Thank you. I figured. No pun intended.@@looselycollected7505
oh what a mess
⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️
why not using paint thinner?
It will melt the plastic.
@@toypolloi oh? is it because it is old plastic? I used small amounts of thinner at a time and it wiped the paint away effortlessly. Once the parts were washed with water, there were no nasty side effects.
Still thanks for you reply and great job!

Use gloves next time mate

I don't think washing toys in a poisonous substance is a good idea. You don't know who could be handling these in the future - possibly kids again.
"Most brake fluids contain diethylene glycol (DEG) - DEG has a sweet taste making it attractive to children and pets. DEG poisoning does not produce a lot of initial symptoms but it can cause substantial kidney damage."
Great to see these toys restored - I probably would have used and struggled with just the scraper tools though.
I wash the toys once I have finished with the break fluid.
😮😮

Please wear some gloves next time. That' can't be good when absorbed into the skin long term. Cheers!
Thanks. As long as you wash your hands well there should be no issue. But always check the details on the bottle first.

Great and Amazing job for sure you TP, I think Skeletor is very happy you fixed him and now he go battle with He Man, 🦾🦾🦾
