Interesting to hear about the fin set up and the effect this has in small surf. Be good hear a bit more about this and maybe your thoughts on the recent trend with the pros using quads in big barreling surf
I'm in Corpus Christi, Texas and have owned the Superbrand Vapors in a 6'0 for 2 years now. I'm 6 ft 165 lbs and use this board only on our bigger days down here (low pressure swells, hurricane or tropical storm swells) so about 5-10 times a year. The rest of the days I use a longboard (yes I love both short and longboarding...). The Vapors is FANTASTIC. I have only ran it as a quad but next time we have a big swell I wanna try the thruster to maybe stabilize it a bit. The quad when going really fast is very squirly but is really fun on waste to chest high days. The board is SOOOOOOOOOOOO responsive like the video says. When you are slicing the side of a clean wave it feels like you and the Vapors are one it's insane. What else can I say? Oh they come with all 5 PREMIUM FCS fins which is a HUGE plus! So tired of boards coming with cheap fins these days. But that was 2 years ago and I noticed on this video, they now have Future Fins? Mine has the FCS fusion fin boxes. I highly recommend this board and would recommend getting it in the same length as you are tall. Worked for me! Thanks!
This is the closest board review to the Eric Arakawa Bandit that I'm riding at the moment. You are spot on with the description of how it should ride - very fun all rounder, plenty of speed and whip. Landed my first air on this board. I think the flat rocker and a little extra width work well to get you in the air, and also to land.
fav board hands down thus far is the rusty piranha. Board is sick here in rockaway ny. basically can ride it in everything we get. it's got a sick low hard rail that knifes into the wave so smooth. great in chop turns super good but is also very forgiving because of the width.
I just order this board thanks to this video and the guys at my local shop. I'm about 6'4 and 200 pounds and I ordered the board in a 6'4. My current surfboard is a 6'6 Channel Islands MBM. This bored is going to be better on the smaller days like thigh to chest.
Fav Board-Christenson Submariner and I say that because it forces you to learn to trim, rail and to surf off the front foot. It teaches you the fluidity of surfing.
got this board for my birthday in december and I'm trying to hold out on riding it until spring when I take it to Puerto Rico. I'm excited to try it out and ill comment again when I do.
Favourite board V3 Rocket! Holds the line in a barrelly wave, handles the steepest of drops, although designed for small wave performance-which it does beautifully, it can be pushed into bigger stuff n still hang in there... durable construction too unlike most mass produced craft out there 🤙 ride it as a quad
I've been riding my 5'8" al Merrick biscuit because of beach breaks I surf here. I felt my surfing has progressed enough to be able to go alot more vertical and do sharper turns on the waves. I tried the 2010 model Vapors (5'8"19") and even though the volume was around 26L compared to my Biscuit at 35Litres. The Vapors paddled into the wave awesome ! Speed and feel down the line was Awesome .Responds quickly when generating speed but smooth at the same time. I rode the Vee wing tail.LOVE IT!
I weight 149 lbs and use the futures f4 honeycomb with the 3.75 small blackstix rears. This fin setup makes the board very stable , yet very manuverable and quick to pick up speed when pumping.
Just started surfing a board based on the Firewire Vanguard but it's PU. Made my Quiver. 5'6 with 4 deep single concaves starting near the nose. It's the BEST board i own and i own ALOT of boards... I'll be ordering a back up one soon. Would love you to review board boards of this type. Cheers! Sam (UK)
Favourite board of all time : my magic board , Lost mini driver 5’5 x 18.38 x 2.18 sickest board going , has the most drive out of anything ive ever ridden also grovels decent , put it in a pocket and it flys like a magic carpet , unfortunetly I snapped it and there 750 to order !! Spewing as.
Continued !! The 5'8" I rode was before the Vapors upgrade in its style and I think the thickened up the rails a bit. I am 71kgs , 5'10" tall and fairly fit. The 5'8" was awesome paddling onto a wave even really small waist high waves , and it was great in bigger waves . My issue was trying to paddle out . Wasn't quite enough volume to paddle with ease at my fitness level. So I ordered the 5'10" which adds half an inch more width and paddle power.I surf alot off my front foot, its awesome.
Spring is here and summer is coming soon so can we see some summer boards reviews like the Lost Lay Z Boy and Couch Potato. Maybe you could compare and contrast the two boards because it is hard to disguised between the two.
I surf a really similar board by Jimmy Keith called the Sled Zeppelin Modified 5'8. It is slightly wider in the nose than the vapor which really helps it in the smaller more mushy waves in Michigan. It is also double concave and diamond tale so I usually surf it as a quad. This thing wants to turn and you immediately feel the responsiveness of the quad+double concave. It is a really fun board and I am looking to surf it as a thruster when we get a really good overhead day.
My favorite board is el fugo by fire wire , first time didn't understand how it works but after a couple of sessions it became amazing ! Works in 10 cm wave !!!!! I am not joking and in 2 meter waves ! The best all arounder ever ...but I am locking for a short board
I have the vapors 5'10 19 1/4 just got it recently from a buddy of mine i surfed it before i got from him and and i loved it it is defantly my one of my favorite boards
I just bought a vapor. I'm 5'9 and 165lbs, intermediate plus. My go to board had been a 5'9 proctor monsta with 28.8 liters of volume. Super's literature recommends getting the board 3-5 inches shorter than your regular surfboard, but this is misleading in my opinion. I called them and talked to a shaper who actually recommended getting the board in a 5'10 with 28.1 liters of volume. The board feels great... Much more nimble than the proctor, gives you a kick on the take off and picks up speed very easily right on takeoff. It's an awesome board--I am really glad I went up in length rather than down in length, and would recommend everyone take that into consideration before buying one. Love the show.
Salomon Kamalodine Which board do you prefer better? I'm debating on which board to get, either the Superbrand Vapor or Proctor Monsta V2. I'm not sure where you surf, but I surf in San Diego @ Scripps Pier, Del Mar 11th street, or in Orange County @ Newport 56th st, Huntington Beach. I wanted to get your opinion on which board will suit those spots in conditions that are 2-5ft. Also, I'm surprised the Superbrand shaper recommended that you go up in length. Any advice will help, thanks!
this is because the procta monsta isn't a conventional high-performance shortboard a 5,8 conventional short board would be sitting on 25 or less if you did get a proper higher rocker performance shortboard such as the burnside or the toy or even the mad cat your going to notice you have to go longer in the shape to get the 28 litres im guessing you like and you would end up comparing the two with a 6,0 to 6,1 performance shortboard and a 5,10 hybrid like the vapours
I think your doing a really great show. You mentioned Cole Surfboards, I would be interested to hear your take on the "slingshot and or zen 2". Considering Cole doesn't put dimensions on his website an living far makes it tough. Thanks, keep up the great work.
Been interested in this board. Great review. I have 3 super brand boards and will def be adding this to the quiver. Fav by far is my 5-4 fling diamond tail. I've ridden it at overhead Ala Moana Bowls, Ehukai sand bar and Huntington slop. Most fun I've ever had on a surfboard.
just demoed a fling rode it as a quad also 5,4 and the thing just flys its ridiculous a sub-par 3-4 foot day was made fun as hell it was like surfing with the stability of a concrete block
Spyder Slop Stick seems like a very similiar board with the single to double concave ( fantastic four) is what they call it, to a V at the diamond/squash tail. The board I have is a 4 fn setup, now the newer version is a 5 fin setup.
Chris, love the show, I think you're a big help in getting a really good understanding of what's under my feet and how to use it properly. i'm looking to upgrade my battered 6'4" Webber swallow tail which is thick and wide but can be a little slow and sticky. I'm looking for something that will get me into waves easily and allow me to start doing proper turns without compromising too much in stability. surf beachies and reefs from 1 - 6ft. would you recommend the vapor or any other boards?
What's up Chris! I'm in the search for a new board. I have the weirdo ripper & the Fred rubble. The surf in Oceanside is kinda decent. Waist to shoulder high, weak & slow. My boards are not performing the way I want it to. Maybe because they're epoxy or the fact that the rockers are a bit too much compared to the boards I normally ride & they were made with PU. My shaper from Huntington Beach doesn't shape anymore so I'm S.O.L. That's why I got those Channel Islands board. I've demo'ed The Fling & it rode better than the weirdo ripper. I'm curious if this Vapors could paddle just as good if not better than the fling? As far as performance, does the vapors out perform the fling doing top to bottom turns or do you think they're the same? Thanks!!
Hi Chris, thnx for the cool review! I got a question about one of your comments during this episode. I am a bit unexperienced in the fin-department (knowledge wise, I tried different setups) and don't really know when to use thruster or quads. Normally I use the guideline: hollow waves - quad and not hollow - thruster. You say that a quad set up for this board could work good on a small day because of the surface area of the fins, to generate speed. So you mean use the quad setup on small slow waves if you want te generate extra speed? Or just in general to generate extra speed (the fast waves are always the ones I end up not making....) Can you maybe give me some more advice about when to use quad/thruster setup for this board in general? That would be really awesome!!
5'6 Rob Vaughan Broadsword. Been riding shorter and wider for years, and this one was just perfect. Pintail made it go brilliantly in bigger, more hollow surf. Awesome job on the show mate, cheers from Belgium/France. Ps: any chance JS will be making an appearance soon?
dude your videos are so awesome! i want this board so bad. my favorite board is the shuler photon from lanny shuler in seaside oregon, it actually has a similar shape to this one.
My favorite board ive ever surfed is my lost driver. its 5'8.Its good from 2-3ft to double over head. ive used it in both conditions an it makes it fun

I've been surfing for almost a year really comfortable with 6'5 hybrid of mine or my 8'0 longboard want to really start short boarding do you think this is a board the will suit the need sorry for the English I'm French
Stanislas Turon-Barrere No need to apologize, your English is very good for a native French speaker. If I could speak French as good as you can speak English I'd be very happy.... Yes you could surf this board as long as you are tall, or maybe an inch longer than your height, and have fun.

Yes you could surf this board as long as you are tall, or maybe an inch longer than your height, and have fun.
can you do a video on the lib tech ramp series. I'm looking for a more responsive board to replace my sweet potato
Hey! Could you do the Toy by Super as well? Maybe even some of the pro models? If you could, that would be sickkkk! Thanks man!
