Development of AI within the industry, actual possibilities and outlook
Patrick Freeman has been working in the timber industry for almost 30 years at Lucidyne Technologies in Oregon (now MiCROTEC). He has been using machine learning methods for artificial neural networks for nearly as long, and Deep Learning AI for almost a decade. Five years ago, the first industrial scanner in the US was developed using Deep Learning AI, which was now combined into the MiCROTEC Ai platform for all quality scanners. In this presentation, Freeman is giving an overview over the development and discussing the advantages, possibilities, requirements, and challenges of AI in the wood industry. He is also providing examples of the development of AI for new wood species and solutions for rare wood defects.
