This was always my favorite ending. It's so mysterious and eerie. Also most likely a homage to Pet Semetary with this being labeled a "Bad" ending in the results screen.
@Ostrava_Of_Boletaria Is that how it went? I always believed that the Town's spiritual power had been corrupted by The Order--who unwittingly (or not) brought about demonic influence into the area with their rituals, which is why Alessa's (or anyone else's) manifestations were so nightmarish. Alessa's conscious half was actually trying to help Harry in SH1 with her mystic seals.
I consider this to be the crazy ending. Where James practically turns into Eddie. I can just see him looking over at Marys corpse and saying "killing a person aint no big deal" lmao

1:32 I don't know what it is about this ending. But it just has a bit of an unsettling undertone to it. James sounds a bit crazy especially when he is speaking to Mary's corpse
The fact that the supernatural is real in SH makes this probably my favorite ending (even if Leave/In Water are the best/most realistic imo). James seems like he's lost it... I believe the resurrection would be successful, insofar as ""Mary comes back to life""... but in regards to what form Mary comes back with - and if she's a Lovecraftian horror or not.... that is up to the player's imagination. It's probably the most interesting ending.
Konami has a gold pot in their hands with this game. Your words made me remember they can make a sequel with these same mechanics, in wich depending on your actions the story goes by one of these endings, all of them. Now imagine a sequel for each one and its already fun
I imagined Mary would be like Lisa in "P.T.". This is labeled as a "bad" ending so whatever Mary came back as...it definitely wasn't good lol. And James has definitely lost his marbles at this point and is no different than Eddie was when sitting in the prison cafeteria. He barely even sounds like the same character. This ending was also the most interesting to me as I like the idea of James becoming a member of the order through proxy. He studies weird scripture, collects arcane objects he barely understands and by accident becomes a devotee of The Order's strange religion.
For years I've been told this is the best ending, but this is probably the creepiest of all...And praying to some weird God to bring back the dead seems a bit too dodgy if you ask me.
I've always assumed that by taking her to that island he invokes the 21 Sacramento believing it will bring Mary back to life, but instead the god is born through her
I know it's crazy, but I understand him. Not that I would do the same thing, but this ending, just like all the other endings, has something special about it. It explores the mystery of love, the darkness, or the brightness of it, depends on how you look at it. Love can make you "crazy", or it can make you sane.
I understand what you mean, I love this ending for the same reasons. Of course Leave is still the best because I want James to be happy and free, but this one... I love that it's one of the options, it enriches this game so much just by being there. I love how vaguely terrifying and mystical the implications are, and the music just rips me to shreds with emotion. I see it as being pushed into depths of desperation by love and guilt 🍂
This wasn't love in this situation is possession by ego. He wants Mary to validate his identity and existence and believes he can't live without her. Love is about acceptance and boundaries which James finally lost control of.
@@antoniomcneary Love can be expressed in many ways. It doesn't take on one singular form. When driven by insanity, love can take on many looks. Some say this ending solidifies James' descent into madness. But does it? It could be said the truth is quite the opposite: that perhaps James has attained an awareness of Silent Hill for the veil that it is, thereby embracing what lies beyond it, which rather than a detachment from reality reveals instead his increased supramundane understanding of it, into which he willfully enters by invoking the rituals of the Crimson Tome to undo his past sins and reverse the outcome. Why, then, the bad ending? Perhaps it is simply this: That time imprisons us not in a cell of brick and mortar but in one of hopes dashed and tragedies unaverted. How precious, then, the chance to go back only to discover that in facing the past you must face up to yourself. That exiting the prison of time doesn't free you from the prison of your own character -- one from which there is no escape.
There is indeed escape and forgiveness in this life. No one asks where he got Mary's corpse from. She was in the trunk of James' car the whole time. He didn't kill her 3 years ago but only recently as she was still fresh.
Completely unrelated, but my uncle would play a lot of video games and I used to watch him growing up. I had a lot of good memories of that and it makes me nostalgic.
