Very nicely done:). I like the subtitles, so I could know the Spiritual meaning behind Bach's piece. I also like the room with the chandelier, the windows, and the fireplace that transports my imagination to another time period. A very lovely video:)
At 2:34. This is when German terribly falters as a singing language. Sorry to say. (And I'm learning German only because Bach wrote in this language!) I tried to sing along to this charming cantata and "Es sei uns dein gnadiges antlitz erfreulich" is such a tangle of crazy consonants even the singers here had to swallow some consonants to keep going. Ah, to have had Bach write most of his cantatas in the clean, robust phonemes of Latin or Italian. A boy can dream. LOL.
This is one of the most difficult duets in Bach's Cantatas. I think it would be better if it were a little slower. But I really liked it, the singers and the cellist were perfect.

"Patience, children. You're making music not passing a kidney stone." LOL! Yes, I agree wholeheartedly. This conductor had them go so fast! The middle section was slurred because they couldn't even get the proper German words out without rushing through at breakneck speed. Also, the acoustics in this room are ATROCIOUS. Who thought it was a good idea to use THIS room for their concert?
Tempo ???????
must be the conductor hates the vocalists. It started out too fast, then got even faster. The alto is cracking up because it is so fast they can hardly get the words out, much less breathe properly and create the wonderful phrasing Bach wrote into the music. The cellist is having a grand time, but it is evident that even the harpsichordist is playing a tempo that is extreme for his instrument. What a shame. The individual musicians have lovely tones. Had this been performed at a canter instead of a gallop it would have been more enjoyable for all. Next time, have the conductor detox from caffeine for a few days prior to lead. It will be much improved.
Who is responsible for this runaway horse of a tempo? The conductor, ultimately. Don't blame Bach for setting the word "eilen." Figure out your tempo ahead of time, son, and stick with it. Can't wait until the B section is over? Patience, children. You're making music not passing a kidney stone. I guess you got the "schwachen" part down since you're "eilen" so much.
Tonton Macoute blanaid has conducted me for 7 years now and she has being doing this for a long time. I think she knows more than you and she definitely knows what she is doing
This is the standard. Faster is actually easier for the singer. This piece tends to painfully drag. I performed this for a final in college. We went to slow and it was not pretty!
@@camerondrumm5116 agreed.i dont know anyone involved but I've got a bachelor in music. I agree. I'll laughing at the supposed musicians saying that it was too fast 😂
@@SaltySeaWitch3 Well, I have a PhD in music history, so there! ;-P Compare the BPM at 0:10 to 2:30 to 4:00. This is one big accelerando. "Eilen ... emsigen," yes, but not to the point at which the last syllables of phrases are cut off and gasped through. Very "schwache" on the part of the conductor.
The musicians "are running away".They get quicker and quicker and end up to gasping for breath. What a pitty, could be an excellent interpretation otherwise. Less is more.
I would love for the whole piece to feel a little looser. It's all very driven and joyless. Let the damn thing BREATHE a little. The singers are really excellent but you're not giving them any room musically.
you can see that they are having the time of their lives singing this. incredible to listen to and a delight to watch! congratulations and thank you
Tell these ladies how beautiful their voices are
I like the tempo.
wow! I have never sung this, this fast! Really helps with getting through those LOOOOOONG lines!
Yeah like they are off to the races. In my opinion somewhat biased opinion having sung this in the California boys choir in 1976.
Gorgeous singing.
Thank you!
BRAVI TUTTI!!! Wonderful!
It's fun to listen to the tempo at the end, and then go back to the beginning-- HOLY COW.
Wonderful performance of a favorite piece:) I'm drawn to alto voices, and this one is elegant.
singing this...this was soo helpful.
Un motivo irresistibile!
Qué bonito es lo bonito
I always think that Bach doesn't need such a fast pace. There is so much to listen to that falls by the wayside at a fast tempo
If any Bach is to be presented at such a tempo, it must be this piece:) After all, we 'hasten' with faltering footsteps.
Very nicely done:). I like the subtitles, so I could know the Spiritual meaning behind Bach's piece. I also like the room with the chandelier, the windows, and the fireplace that transports my imagination to another time period. A very lovely video:)
Great performance
Ausgezeichnet😊❤😊
I would’ve passed out trying to sing this song at this tempo. Thankfully my director slowed it a little
LOVE the tempo - fully expresses the radiant joy of the authentic believer!

Tempo is ok. Too slow would be heavy!!! I just would have preferred to hear the violone part better.

They are speeding up...
Is the tape sped up?
play this at .75% speed and it sounds so much better
Sounds awful. Needs a slide from 95% down to 80%
Beautiful voices; would prefer it a little more slowly...
They have got beautiful voices!
Maybe little more than little more. :-) Too fast, sounds like a parody. But beautiful voices!
Die haben es Eilig...
Where's the organ?
Tempo????
which ones????

How about this one?

Where were the instruments?
Not sure what you mean. The harpsichord is right in front of the conductor with bass and cello to his right since he has his back to us
Too fast.
The tempo needs to be reconsidered.
Alas a tad like a race but some nice results please no faster!

Quick tempi are nice but this is too rushed!
Blame the composer
Not at all. The only rush is the conductor isn't holding the fefmata long. This Is a fast song. Lots of runs.

Sounded like the cello was racing from the top - about only the first three notes were in the tempo the conductor set.
The words are easy sweets
Singers must be able to sing much faster than this. If anyone is having a problem, it's their problem.
@@jgunther3398 agree. That is th he tempo of the piece!
@@SaltySeaWitch3 It works at different tempos, but that's Gardiner's tempo and he's the foremost authority at the moment.

Why rush it so? Not very well recorded. Don't like the sound of the continuo either.
