Bungie used a lot of the same stock sounds for a lot of their early games. The alpha flamethrower, and later the banshee, used the same sounds as the screaming cannon from Oni, a gun that shoots literal ghosts.

Reading about the development of this game is an absolute trip. It's a miracle it even came out. Changed genre 3 times. Bungie hired a marketing firm to help them come up with the title. Campaign didn't exist 8 months before release, which is why there's glowing arrows in the interior spaces to tell the player where to go. Just the most creatively directionless, ramshackle ass development process I've heard of. Incredible that it turned out any good.
No thanks to Microsoft though. Because of the strenuous deadlines imposed on them, Bungie could never consolidate their entire vision to a single Halo game or just one sequel. They didn't officially go independent until 2011 but the plans were put in motion to do so in the middle of Halo 2s development because of the hell Microsoft were putting them through. Og bungie were filled to the brim with talent though. Halo's engine was revolutionary for tech that predated Id Tech 4 or Source Engine plus all of the extra QoL features that made FPS bearable on console.

The side magazine gun cool has such a cool design to it, it’s really dope I’ve always like the fg42 it’s kinda similar but would love to see it return!!
ngl I really like the auto-shotty's bullet spread. It feels moderately more realistic than the base game, and much more satisfying to use. The final SMG is fantastic, and I prefer it over the Halo 2 SMGs. A more accurate burst-fire mode is great. Release version of the magnum is the best version, as cool as the "space luger is". Though I'd love to see that pistol replace the one in ODST. early plasma pistol is kinda lame, and i prefer the release version; though the early needler is interesting. I like how fast the needles go, and it reminds me of the brute needler (AKA the Shredder) from SPV3. Though i LOVEEE that covenant shotgun. The early plasma rifle feels like a baddy. I miss that gun in Halo overall, and it's a shame what happened to it over the years. it used to have a strong ability to consistently stun targets from "burn damage", and then over time it just stopped being cool. third and fourth iteration plasma rifle is hot, i love it so much (i prefer the tracers and projectile speed/spread on the second iteration). I'd love to see that plasma rifle as an alternative. Make it be like the model that preceded the brute plasmas.
the first microwave rifle is actually amazing, and i kinda prefer it over the beam rifle we got in halo 2 and beyond. It's so satisfying. interesting to see where the first and second fulminite (fuel rod) cannon came from, and that the halo 2 and later iterations were based on the early versions. I can also see where the brute shot came from looking at that first fuel rod cannon. that gun at 28:19 feels like it comes from a completely different game. I don't hate it at all, but it doesn't feel halo to me. that rail gun that you have to charge up at 29:00 is a dope idea, but def an early iteration of something that could be more interesting. Also doesn't feel like it's congruent with the other Covenant weapons, but not a bad idea by any means. If i recall correctly the gun at 30:50, is a "gravity wrench", and was meant to basically act like a gravity gun and punts vehicles and physics objects. the machete is dope and i wish it would've come back at some point as a human melee weapon.
Hi nasol3287! I can't say for 100% certainty, but I doubt they will unless they're being paid to create new animations for the old content, or they already exist but are unrefined. It's unlikely (but not impossible) considering they are just digging up the old stuff and giving it to us to create new things with. The good news is: I'm here to do it for a lot of these guns! at 20:33 when you picked up that gun that would later become the mauler in halo 3 I didn't actually expect it to be an actual pocket shotgun. Very interesting to see how the development of this game went.
insane how you can trace some of these ideas (whether functionally or visually) all the way through to stuff that didn't make it in until Halo 3. the sword / machete from the difficulty logo is definitely a missed opportunity for a UNSC melee weapon, as goofy as it is it fits the aesthetic of the universe well
Love how the rocket launcher didn't really change design much,except for the color. Shows they were already deadset on it,even before they decided what genre they wanted the game to be.

they should've kept the AR grenade launcher variant! maybe just gave it to one soldier or sgt. per squad. would've been really awesome to see in combat.

It's astonishing how much content that is used in later Halo's was originally made in Halo CE. For example: The Shadow and the Spectre. The unused weapons are a very intriguing as well! The gold weapons definitely could be early Forerunner tech. Thank you for your comment!

I agree. The stuff we got is a remake of the original in the current engine. It would be awesome to see the original weapon selector, but I have my doubts that it will come considering the way modern Halo is built in contrast to the old engine.
Where exactly do you go to access this test map with all the weapons and vehicles? I have played the map with the objectives in them but I have no clue on where to go to access this.

I took the time to reorganize every single weapon placement for recording this video. I also removed the cut characters and vehicles that are present in the workshop version since I wanted to feature the weapons only. I hope this helps!

Because the default cyborg biped that you're playing as does not have the animation references necessary to hold the weapons. That is why you see me playing as the 1999 Macworld Cyborg.
@@threebythestreet If you're using the Steam Workshop version, there is no way to change them. If you download the Halo editing kit, you have to change the references in the globals tag to use the 99 mac cyborg instead of the OG, or you can activate "cheat_bump_possession" and just walk into the other bipeds.
I just checked the game files and the game itself, and I can't find any SMG alt fire inside the snipers. They only have primary triggers, no secondary. Well...Halo was heavily inspired by Aliens in the first place,so it's not too much of a stretch to say the UNSC assault rifle was inspired by the pulse rifle. I mean,it even has the ammo counter.

Hi commandplay, 343i asked a group of modders, called the Digsite Crew, to comb through an old hard drive that had _all_ of Halo CE's development files on it. They released a statement in July 2022 saying that they were doing this, and then a year later in July 2023 they finally released a good chunk of development files. Not everything, but a lot. There are still some maps I'd like to see released. I made a showcase immediately because I'm still working on Halo CE to this day. It certainly is the holy grail of Halo at the moment. The 3rd person gameplay style they were going for reminds me of Resident Evil 4, with the moving crosshairs and such.
The handheld chain gun in this version is better looking than pretty much every other iteration of dismounted turret in the mainline games

I made a custom third person camera and then used the backspace key to change camera states. This is a debug function and will not work in MCC.
