I had a panic attack 10 years ago and experienced depersonalization and derealization. Nothing felt real. It was like I was watching myself act out the event in my life. I felt that way for a long time. I’ve finally came out of it. I did a lot to try to get out of that state of mind. But the one thing that helped is to stop fighting it. I told my self “okay we’re going to take a walk to day and I’m not going to observe the world as much, I’m not going to look at everything and think again “man this just doesn’t feel real” I’m just going to walk and accept it all for what it is. It may not feel like reality but it is my reality and there it is my normal”. I told myself I wasn’t going to give it another thought it wasn’t going to control my mind. If you think something is wrong with you, your gonna Feel like something is wrong with you. You have to get out of your head. My mantra became “live on the outside, not the inside” … anyways watching these videos made me think of that. I know Post Finasteride Syndrome is different from what I had but it sounds like there are a couple similar symptoms. I don’t want to come off as that guy that’s just like “just get over it” because I know how hard it is to get out of that state. My friends would joke and say it sounds like you just need to be slapped in face, its like dude if a slap in the face is all it would take then sign me up right now… some other things I do is take a multivitamin and fish oil everyday. I feel like the fish oil helps with brain fog. Fruit Smoothies with beetroot powder and turmeric. Sauna and cold showers (not all the time though). Exercise. Daily walks. Healthy protein, fruits and veggies. I don’t want to sound like a Joe Rogan podcast or too preachy so I’ll end it here.

Thanks for speaking up mate, I'm in the same neck of the woods and know what you're going through. You're a strong man and I wish you nothing but the best. You're not alone and not to be blamed in the slightest, it's an insecurity so many men have to deal with and this drug is pedaled in a very predatory way. You look well with a shaved head, hopefully the cycle will break for you and you're keeping well.

Mitch, I will speak from my own personal older experience to you (I'm nearly 54) and ask if you ever had a sleep study done to diagnose yourself for possible sleep apnea. Tachycardia, a form of rapid heart rate that is often associated with a panic attack when your body is given a jolt of adrenaline, is what you're feeling when you wake up in that cold sweat with your heart beating twice or more than a normal resting rate. Sleep apnea is a function of your body not being able to breath while you're sleeping so your brain gives your body a jolt of adrenaline to get it breathing again. Consider getting a sleep study done if you have not already to see if you have sleep apnea that might require you to sleep with a CPAP or BiPAP device. I lost a lot of weight and no longer need my CPAP device. But some people are just predisposed to sleep apnea due to how their throat and nasal passages are formed. I also suffer from a general anxiety disorder that is under control through various means. I have never taken Finasteride though my hair is starting to thin in earnest these days nor do I plan to based on my own personal health concerns and how PFS can amplify my situation should I react as you have. I bless you to have a full and complete recovery from your symptoms and to find success in whatever ways you wish. I also encourage you to meditate, do yoga, listen to relaxing music, change your bed and/or mattress, to get some level of exercise even if it means only walking around your neighborhood a couple of times once a day or several times a week. Challenge yourself to get better each day even if it's just one more step over yesterday's totals. Life should only be a competition between us and ourselves to improve upon what the Good Lord gave us yesterday and today and to make the best of it for tomorrow. Good luck!

I've been through all the symptoms you've listed because of another drug. The most painful part is that none can understand how different you feel your very life every minute and they can't understand your hell because it's hard to explain as you said to someone who never experienced it, and also while you try to speak it out your mind is telling you they won't understand anyway.
I've done tons of research on these symptoms and i've come to understand that these drugs act as the opposite of an anti depressant. They make depression and anxiety explode in your brain out of nothing with no real reason. I've found my self many times imagining, picturing my suicide like someone was showing the scene to me in my head as i was like "wtf i ain't doing that! I'll never!" Cause i never wanted it, i was always a cheerful guy who never even remotely thought about suicide or ever been depressed. So that's when my self-rescuing began: i started to point out that if that weren't my thoughts, my usual ones, then they weren't part of me. I realized they were just external images, like a demon whispering in my ears. I decided to stop listening. Stop being scared. Shake off every negative thought, trying to convice me that all was good and time alone could only heal those psychogical wounds that medication caused me. Then i moved to the next step and i asked my self am i really going to sit on my hands and wait for this crap to pass off? So i did some more research and found that 30 minutes of exercise a day work better than any anti depressant or anti anxiety you could think of. So i got a rower and worked like a freak on my body, started to care about eating habits and things began to improve a lot. Now i'm not completely out of it, but surely it's going way better.
In the end, dear Mitch, work on your self by any means necessary, that's my only advice, keep your spirit and your head up do it for your family for anyone who loves you and believes you are stronger than any whispering demon.
Kind regards and my best wishes from italy

All of them, and I really mean all, preach about how rare any serious side effects are, and that there's a fear mongering community around taking finasteride that people shouldn't fear. These things are happening to enough men to not roll the dice though, and I honestly think the drug should be banned. I'd rather be bald.

To say that finasteride isn't to blame simply because you're having a good result doesn't mean that everyone else is wrong. You're just one of the more fortunate ones. There's a whole community around this issue, and I infinitely doubt that they're all conspiring together in order to discourage other men from taking this drug just because they want everyone else to be bald. It's great that you're having a good result (so far) but let's not invalidate or put others down.

People are owed 100% of this information to make informed decisions, and big pharma doesn't care enough about you, me, or anyone else to put it out there themselves. I took the drug for almost a year and now 6 months later Im really tired all the time and can hardly motivate myself to do anything. Libido is low too, I don't think about sex nearly as much as I used to do.
I knew there were side effects. But supposedly, according to the prescription, once you stopped the drug they would go away. Well personally it was the opposite, most of the bad sides started once I stopped taking the drug. While I was on the drug my libido and motivation was actually quite high, maybe even higher than before. But when I stopped I first had trouble sleeping and now many months later I have to struggle to get up from bed every single day. 6 months fast forward I feel a little better but just a little bit. Libido is still low and I've had watery semen for months. I feel quite weak. I used to like to go to the gym. I dont feel like doing it anymore, I dont feel enjoyment thinking about it.

Thank you so much for your statement. I am so sorry that this has happened to you and I hope a treatment will be discovered soon. I have a young family member with post SSRI/SNRI sexual dysfunction (PSSD), which has similar effects and may have a similar underlying mechanism. I am doing what I can to stimulate fund-raising for research, but quite honestly, the manufacturers should take responsibility for what they have done (and are continuing to do) and put some of their fat, greedy profits into fixing the harm that they have caused. I am angry and grieving for everyone affected by PFS and PSSD. How is this poison still being prescribed?

My usual 8 hour sleep nights were shortened to 5 hours on a good day (usually 4.5 hours). I became a walking zombie. I quit fina on the 3rd month. On the 4th and 5th months my sleep increased to 6.5 hours.
Now I'm on my 6 month post operation, started sleeping 8 hours again, that poison finasteride took 3 months to get out of my system. It destroys your GABA receptors and Neurosteroids such as pregnenolone , that's why it causes insomnia. Fiuck that poison, do NOT take it.

@@csgecko Well, I certainly did, and to be very frank: This More Plates More Dates guy is very uninformed as far as "PFS" or whatever term we want to use for it is concerned. If he had invested some time talking to PFS patients he would have realised that many people have tried all kinds hormonal balancing treatments after doing bloodwork after bloodwork, but the truth is they don't work, because that's not what the problem is. It's pretty much the first thing that most PFS patients try, because it would make sense that an endocrine disruptor would cause hormonal problems that need to be fixed. The truth is, sadly, quite a bit more complicated.
"PFS" is not "simply a dysregulation of hormones" as MPMD boldly states. Most PFS patients will get completely normal hormone blood panels when testing blood serum levels. There is no overblown estrogen or any other hormonal imbalance that MPMD claims or implies is going on. His entire basis for his treatment suggestions have no basis in reality because he did not do his research properly, did not read the available medical studies on the topic, and did not talk to PFS patients about their results. I'm sure the guy has been a bodybuilder all his life and played around with various hormonal supplements more than once but that by no means gives him any sort of superior knowledge about what PFS allegedly is, let alone how it's supposed to be treated. his blog post about PFS is pure homebrew theorymongering front to back. Add in some overconfident statements with some toxic bootcamp sarge attitude lines and you've got a blog post that may sound and feel very convincing but lacks substance in pretty much every aspect of it.
He even flatout admits that he based his treatment plan on herbs that one of his buddies is selling in an online shop. I'm sure he didn't go through all this trouble just to sell a few herbs as I think MPMD probably truly believes in what he says, but that's still an obvious conflict of interest.
Believe what you want to believe, but as a PFS patient, it puzzles me and frustrates me, why such a person decides to go guru about it, make videos about it, and write a whole blogpost about it when he's making assumptions that he does not double check and are simply factually wrong.

    6 years on propecia.
First 2 years of PFS were brutal for me. The obliteration of my cognitive function was insane. Neurological symptoms that look like an autoimmune disease.
Unilateral Muscle wasting, libido 30% what it used to be. The invisible suffering is really tough. But would it really make a difference if it was visible? Then you just get pitty. The side effect list is long.
My cognition is 80% what it used to be. I’m so grateful to have come this far.
I knew the risks when I started taking it.
I though about suicide. But never planned it. Knew I wasn’t a quitter and I’d find a way. Give it a decade. If the decade saw no improvement then maybe final solution it.
Take psilocybin 1 - 4 grams monthly to help with mood and coping. The stress of coping and inability to process it because of mental incapacitation pushes the trauma deep down. Need to release the trauma, take the psilocybin to release the trauma so it doesn’t overwhelm and make you suicidal.
The laundry list is long. It took 12 months to stabilize. 1 year and 6 months to really get back to functioning.
I miss my intellect too bro.. tears up when you said that. But I’m still amazed how well I can make things happen here and there.
    Lifting, healthy diet, meditation, therapy.
Try all the therapies. Make a journal/Google form that’s easy to fill out to track what makes your symptom a better/ worse. Your memory isn’t dependable. Make it easy on yourself. Don’t be stubborn. Work with what you got. If your mind isn’t working leverage someone else. Leverage Google suites.
Cold plunge, saunas, nutrition, sunlight, red meat.
P.S. my symptoms come and go. This is written during the 2 to 4 hours a day where my brain works at 80%. Rest of the day it’s at 60%

Not sure what "other things" could have been involved here to experience such a sudden and dramatic worsening.
If you take the drug and have no problems, great. I'm not saying this affects everyone, because if it did, the drug wouldn't be on the market. I don't care if you take the drug or not, that's your choice. But dismissing these experiences because you take the drug and have no problems is called cognitive dissonance, and it's a massive problem with the acceptance of this condition. To accept that this is a possibility would mean you would have to accept that the possibility exists it could happen to you.
I won't get into a back and forth here because it's pointless, but since this is the first comment on my video challenging the legitimacy of my condition, I feel it's important to reply.
All the best and take care.

Been on finasteride for 2 years and the only side effect I've had was watery semen for the first 3 weeks. Feel great tbh

I'm glad for you, Anthony. Clearly you're not someone who has PFS, though, right? Neither am I - however my lack of side-effects on a medication doesn't negate other people having them. For eg. I could say, "I've smoked for years and I feel great tbh!" and what's the value in that? Just something to consider.

Just remember post finasteride syndrome is after you stop taking the drug. You won't know how bad it is till you stop taking the drug. Good luck.
