My question is not related to tarpon and pier fishing, although I feel bad about the negativity you are getting. Tarpon are designed to give a fisherman some outstanding action. I have been an offshore fisherman for years. But since I don't have my boat, I have taken up beach and backwater fishing. I found some pre-rigged wire tackle in my old tackle box. Is there any value in using wire at the beach?

It does cause the fish to be stressed for no reason and sometimes those leaders and hooks interfere with them being able to feed. I'm a fisherman of 35 years in Deep South Louisiana. (If it's legal I'm keeping and eating it lol)

Yo, I've always gone to skyway, pier 60 and Fort Desoto. I need to find one of these spots where my kids have fun and actually catch fish. I tried the whole Google maps thing but I don't want to drive super far and it not be worth a damn. Any help on pinpointing a good spot?
This is why FWC guidelines states clearly: Do not target from bridges or piers - Releasing tarpon from bridges or piers requires specialized lifting gear or cutting the line, which leaves long amounts of line trailing behind the fish.
