Thank you for the slit idea for holding the buttons! I knew there had to be a better way than pinning it to paper and having the paper get all wrinkled
I've been trying to figure out button packaging and hadn't thought of cutting a slit in paper to secure them...what a great idea :D Thanks for making this video!
I've been selling buttons over 20 years. This part right here is pretty cool 04:13. You should see the haphazard way i ship my buttons. Lately 2024 it has become so expensive to ship anything it's ridiculous.
I've been experimenting with button packaging, but stumbled across this video entirely by accident while looking at other things. The slit method for attaching buttons to a card is way easier than what I was using, and I'm definitely going to incorporate it into whatever packaging I come up with. Thanks for a clear and useful video :D
Such a great video!! Thank you so much for sharing!! I’ve been trying to find a way to package button for so long since I wanna start making button packs. I just bought a button maker, so I can start to try this method of yours out!! The thing I struggled to figure out the most was how to pin them to a backing card, and the slit was exactly the answer I was looking for! 😁
Good timing on this video! I just sold my first button on ebay and immediately realized I had no idea how to package it. I've sold a lot of secondhand/vintage stuff on ebay including larger, breakable items, but the silly little 1.25" button really threw me for a loop and it took me a while to figure out what to do with it. Eventually I just pinned it to a piece of cards stock, wrapped it up and threw it in a poly mailer. But the slit idea is SO much better, and I love the idea of using business cards as well!
I have more than 4,000 buttons in my collection going back generations. I started collecting when I was 12 and I'm 69 now. I told my granddaughter that I wanted to leave them to her but now I'm having second thoughts as I don't think she appreciates just exactly what it is. I used to display them all on my walls but I ran out of space. I wonder if I could leave them to a museum or something and if they'd display them. IDK.
That sounds like an amazing collection. Just to see what was popular throughout the years. Perhaps photographing each and every one and then posting it to Instagram could bring interest and a great way to put the collection on display .
Great idea! I love the themed design on the backer. So pretty! The e-xacto knife cuts are a fantastic idea! I've been using a hole punch and end up bending the backer trying to get the buttons on. I will change my method! Thank you for this!
With printing costs, foam sheets might be more cost effective as well. I saw Baylee Jae used that method, but my love of printing different backgrounds stops me from switching over. lol
Very informative, thank you! Would love it if you made templates of your backer cards --not the designs themselves, but where the slits go and the dimensions!
Perfect for DIY, cottage businesses, personalized gifts, custom ornaments, advertisement, souvenirs, craft projects, school and classroom functions, or just for the fun of it.
do you have to get copyright permissions with the harley quinn pins? how do you sell coppyrighted IP? im always scared about using existing IP and wondered how other shops get around it. thanks for the tips!
Hello Maria, I was wondering where I could purchase that business card paper because I want to sell and I want to make my buttons look as professional as possible so please let me know it would be greatly appreciated.
Wow, I just wonderin how to make my freebies concert looking good and I found these! Cute and helpful. Anyway, is that 32mm or 44mm pin button? Thank you and sorry for my grammar + mistakes
Hi ! I love your video :) Which button design software you use? I would like to download a good program but so far I found only very expensive programs. Thanks!
For individual buttons I have a big board displaying all my designs and when people pick which ones they want, or build their own 5-pack, I make them "fresh" at the table with my machine. For the pre-made 5-packs, I usually make 5 of each pack before the convention, and then I make more of each pack as needed at the convention. That way I'm not wasting any stock on designs that don't sell, and making the buttons at your table usually attracts people because they like to watch how they're made.
I typically print 20 of each page, and since the pages each fit about 25 buttons (of this size 1.25"). So far that's been more than enough and I've never run out of anything on the convention floor.
Tiana Johnson thanks for watching! The Hello Kitty there is from a recycled candy wrapper and not for sale, so when it comes to personal use, you're in the clear to make pretty much whatever you want. However, if you plan on selling them the rules are different. Making a profit from other people's intellectual property (like popular copyrighted characters) is risky, you may face legal action if you choose to do so. Certain companies say it's okay to do so with their characters (which is rare), while others are very strict. It's always best to do your research before selling any fan art item. When it comes to your own art and characters, it's also good to look into getting a copyright for yourself so you have the same legal back up if someone were to do the same with your art/characters. 👍 Hope this helped!
I had a really really bad experience with Clearbags and I'm looking for an alternative to putting my buttons in bags. Does anyone know where to get an alternative to button bags?
@@MariaFromTheInternet I would appreciate sooo much, I am in the process of opening my little online shop and the way you packed the pins seem perfect! The personalized packaging is a mega plus.
@@FranksShitBoxCollection I believe 100 lb paper is what we consider regular card stock. 14 pt and 16 pt should be closer to what would be used for a postcard, so they might be overkill. You won't really know what's best for you until you see/hold/test it though so you could try getting some test prints done:)

just wanted to say that 3 1/2 years down the line from this video and it's still got really useful information

Seems like the American Button Maker machines are the best. Im going to go with this.
how haven’t i seen this until now? you gave me such great ideas for my etsy shop, thank you so much!

Genius. Was trying to come up with cost effective packaging to hand out for promo intentions. Thanks for sharing
i like to use craft foam. you can pierce it with the pins and holds nicely.

Poison & Antidote where’d you get the card stock pack? All I find are fairly thin papercardstocks in monochrome.

Hi! Beautiful work! What board do you use to display your buttons?

Great work! Thank you so much for this very instructional video!! :)
Have you ever run into issues selling copyrighted imagery on pins? I.E. superhero logos
you are so smart i wish i used the slit instead of buying the double hole punch that was 20$

Nice video,
what kind of paper do you print on for your backers? I've been using cardstock but i don't like how it looks.
@@ketchupjonmustard4514 these were 80# gloss cover, but 100# gloss cover would work just as well and be more substantial.
@@MariaFromTheInternet Thanks so much!! Yea i find cardstock seems to look blurry and the colors aren't as nice. Thanks for the reply!

What is the size of the card for the 5 pack
Off the top of my head I don't remember, it's either 4.25"x6.25" or 4.5"x6.5"
Sightly larger than a standard 4"x6" postcard so it fits the hang bag
These are some great tips. How much stock do you usually keep at your table with you of both individuals and packs?
For individual buttons I have a big board displaying all my designs and when people pick which ones they want, or build their own 5-pack, I make them "fresh" at the table with my machine. For the pre-made 5-packs, I usually make 5 of each pack before the convention, and then I make more of each pack as needed at the convention. I typically print 20 of each page, and since the pages each fit about 25 buttons (of this size 1.25"). So far that's been more than enough and I've never run out of anything on the convention floor.
I just decided to start making pins and seeing the hello kitty makes me wonder about copyrights. Is there any paperwork we should file?

How much is packaging for a single 5 pack
what kind of printer do you use also

Where you get ur designs you do ur own designs
Ena Hammond yes, I do my own designs. Thanks for watching 😚
These were really cool ideas, but I would never eat anything a seller sent me, you just never know.
That's fair, I know some people don't and that's perfectly fine too. 👍
what size is the 5 pack card?
I made the backer cards slightly smaller than 4"x6", so they can fit in a 4"x6" plastic hangtag bag.
What size do you print the backer cards to fit the bags that you posted in the link?
Your easiest bet is probably to figure out the size of whatever bags you're going to buy and design cards to match that size ☺️
@@srjohnst Yeah I kinda figured that but now I'm curious as to which card stock thickness to use since I've seen 14PT, 16PT & 100LB
