- Amidst an ongoing global pandemic, the traditional runway show was radically reconfigured by fashion designers seeking new ways of presenting their collections. Virgil Abloh, in his role as Men’s Artistic Director at Louis Vuitton, was at the forefront of this innovation, creating a unique and powerful film-Peculiar Contrast, Perfect Light-with artists from Moved by the Motion and additional collaborators to showcase his fall/winter 2021 collection. VIRGIL IS THE GOAT
When I first saw the film / fashion show I'm going to simplify by saying it reminded me of the black fashion shows in the community whether it was the ebony Fashion Fair which took haute couture designer house is closed and did a fashion show with sort of the wealthy black and Latino Elite we call it the chitlin circuit but it wasn't the lower economic chitlin circuit it was established black and brown folks and them giving the fashion show not being intimidated and door put down to come into the fashion House's they could afford the clothes but they did not attend these fashion house Galas high-end fashion house Galas and to me some of those fashion shows were very with making had a lot of movement they were not typical high-end fashion house Runway shows they had Flair they have movement and some of them even when you have black design is doing their fashion shows they were not traditional in the European cents and to me this film that Virgil and this gentleman put on had that movement to it had that old school 60s 70s fashion show kind of Montage in homage to those type of shows of those type of Runway shows and I was in all let alone how the verbage moved throughout the film as a person that has red Baldwin and some of the other pieces that were done in the film I cried doing a lot of it where I had to rewatch it again LOL I was in awe on so many levels because to see someone of heavy melanated skin tones pull something this together with a fashion house that typically epitomizes you know white elite classism and intellectualism from an artistic standpoint was in itself prolific because you can see I don't know just this elevation that I believe takes even though it's the ready-to-wear line men's line of Louis Vuitton is still took it to another level that I don't think the house even looked at doing but it must have thought something because virtual was able to put out what he put out with his own brand so to do it with their brand and to do it in this manner which was totally against the grain was so awesome and I think he opened up I see other designers that attempted to bite especially during covid Galliano attempted to say this was his little somebody tried to give him the kudos to say it was him doing no no no no no Virgil's in this choreographers film did that it's serotone know that part anyway with my big run-on sentence that I have an edited also the film just really said a major milestone in fashion and it is sort of tragic and odd to me that Virgil's transition happen apparently he nuvia cancer I guess from something I read but my point is just odd in the sense that he went on into finish bodies of work that I believe I read it will last to 2025 and I'm hoping that that's what they let do but more than likely they won't but in the time frame that he was with Louis Vuitton and his own bodies of work with his label it was so much he's put for into our psyches into our spiritual manifestation of the physical and I mean it's to me is phenomenal I know he allows our youth to see such iconic greatness in fashion and art in fought and film you know I hope and pray that our young people especially those in certain marginalized areas of our society see him and he is celebrated in taught so that our youth can know that they can do it and go beyond no punctuation needed no editing needed I see I said yes there's going to be me for everything but this is not a formal education situation nor am I getting paid LOL
