@@martytu20 People have this false believe that people dropped dead at 30 until around 100 years ago. Life expectancy was low in the past because of the child mortality rate, combined with the fact that many women died in childbirth. If a man made it into adulthood, however, he had a good chance of living into his 60s or 70s. 80s and 90s were less common, but not unheard of. Most of my ancestors died in their mid to late 80s. Romans thought that the maximum lifespan for a human was 110 years because they had never seen anyone live beyond that age.

      Nothing refuting there.
This idea comes up from time to time.
And it is a huge idea.
      Which doesnt make it true.
And also it shouldnt be taught as true...but for mature believers, this concept is worth pondering because it is less about John and more about the greatnessof God.
Again, just because it is interesting doesnt make it true.
I swear - i wish i had the opportunity to sit in a cigar smoke filled library with every person spinning their brandy with CS Lewis,or, Charles Spurgeon, etc..... and discuss possibilities and wonders.
Subscribe to IP, but some of what he tears down is merely only using the referenses of other scholars - nothing mentioned of illumunated passages or a verse that tickles his imagination. (I suspect. It is to keep his body of work clear of anything used to in debates)
But all authentic christians have moments where they experience illumination.
Some verse or truth that they feel God spoke or is showing them. These experiences solidify confidence in Scripture, and other believers who hear it use Scripture to validate if that Individual's experience aligns with God's signature.
Dismissing possibilities without any study makes a person ignorant.
This John the Beloved idea makes some of historical "long-liver" legends more fascinating too.
Traditionally eschatology graphs point that the OT recorded that Enoch was taken. Elijah was taken.
And some people think the Two Witnesses are them.
Mind you, this idea is already crazy crazy impossible (God miracle only territory)
But as IP shared The idea that John the Baptist was the Elijah who was to come. (John the Baptist's clothes and diet hint to him being exactly like Elijah)
Jesus prefaced it w "if you can handle it"
John the Baptist was the only non-divine baby filled w the Holy Spirit pre birth.
Jesus called John theBaptist the greatest born of women.
No recorded miracles, and a ministry of bathing sins away off an obscure Isaiah reference.
      What if.
If John the Baptist .. was Elijah as the only person reincarnated?
He was then beheaded.not qualified to be one of the two witnesses.
The lack of a record of Apostle John's death and the context
Make him a candidate for being a witness.
More than incredible.whether St John stayed on earth or was taken up- What is it to you ? God can do whatever He wants.
Bust out the cigars and brandy!!!
Go read Zechariah 2, then Revelation 11.

@@Taurion4467 Hi, you have to be careful about your wording because in Revelation "the one who overcomes" is attributed to the Anti Christ. The reason why Elijah and Enoch are broadly cited as the best candidates for the Two Witnesses is that, uniquely, neither of them have died! They were both bodily transported to heaven without dying and remain there to this day, waiting. They will appear, preach unstoppably for 42 months then be overcome "see) by the Anti Christ and killed. their bodies will lie in the streets of Jerusalem for three days while crowds cheer, at which point they will be resurrected and transported to heaven, an event that causes much dismay. Frankly, it is offensive for you to say this is "playing games with salvation". Where in the Bible does it say that we as believers are to be mindless and unquestioning? “It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search it out.” - Proverbs 25:2

found when researching, “why do catholics pray to saints”, divine intercession and asking for their prayers, rather than literally praying TO THEM. the prayers of holy ones are held with high regard so like, your nice holy neighborhood priest may have more weight with his prayers than a non religious person just tossing up a prayer.

Great video. Just one thing I'd like point out - not all of the accounts of the deaths of the apostles rest on later traditions. Acts relates the execution of James in Jerusalem. Eusebius, as you mentioned, relates John's death in Ephesus. And there is good evidence that Peter and Paul died martyrs in Rome, as tradition states. I just finished reading "The Fisherman's Tomb" by John O'Neill, which mounts a pretty convincing case that the bones found in the necropolis under the Vatican are indeed those of Peter, which would seem to confirm that tradition.
