I Entered a Powerlifting Meet to Confront Fear

- Yesterday I participated in a powerlifting meet at Nspire HQ, Hopper Crossing.
It was a significant experience for three reasons.
🔰1) I am not a competitive person.
The last competition I remember was a 25m backstroke race 🏊🏼♀️... when I was 8 years old. And I believe they gave a medal to everyone at the end. 🏅
Perhaps that's why I love the gym: I don't have to compete (or interact 🎧) with others.
🔰2) Not all weights are the same. 🏋🏼
When I told i8cardio six weeks ago that I wanted to participate in this competition, I thought they would laugh at me because bodybuilding (what I usually do) and powerlifting are two different things.
However, even though time was short, they supported me, and we changed the training routine.
🔰3) You can't really predict how you'll react in a new situation until you're in it.
The preparation went really well until... a week before the competition, my nerves started to give in. I didn't expect this.
I got injured, skipped a training session, and was about to give up. ☹️
They only awarded medals to the winners yesterday, and even if they had given them to the second or third place, I wouldn't have won anyway. 🙅🏻
But I did win something: I survived my first time. If I decide to participate in other competitions, and the nerves and fear return (because yes, they will), I will have PROOF that I've already done it once.
Is there anything more valuable than gaining self-awareness? 🌟
