The Klymit pillow has been the most comfortable pillow I’ve ever used. Never has gotten too hard for me even in the upper 20’s. The pillow also never made me sweat and I’m in Texas. Folding wise, you can roll that thing up and use an extra compression strap, to make it much more packable. Also, there’s a zipper to add or subtract the foam to your weight/fluff/packability preference. Sierra has the regular size at 19oz for $20.
Yeah, pillows are a real personal thing 😂 I’m planning a through hike at the moment and I am tearing my hair out trying to pick a new lighter pillow that I’ll like
The Thermarest is great after washing and drying. After drying the filling inside fluffs up more and make it more comfy. In fact the instructions state that you should wash and dry it prior to use so it will fluff the filling out.
THIS is the video I've been looking for, thank you! I was all but sold on the wise owl and you just confirmed it, based on the fact that I like the way you approach things in a real world scenario. I just wish that I could find the large size somewhere. Going to get the medium for now and keep an eye out. Thanks again, great reviews!
I've had zero issues with my Klymit pillow is cold temps. And as far as packability, you do have to fold it in half and then synch in down with the supplied strap. It's not a pocket pillow, so yes, it has some girth, but it also doesn't take up that much space (if you're car camping). If you're backpacking, it's definitely not the pillow for you.
@@LoneCrowAdventures The coldest temps I've used mine is was around 28 degrees (F). But maybe b/c I kept it covered with my sleeping bag, it didn't get hard like that. But loving it so far.
@@neostephens8980 I was looking to see what more fair weather campers think of this pillow because I personally love being able to adjust the firmness of my pillows. My home pillows are the same way. Not the and brand but the same idea. I have no intention of "camping" in extreme temperatures on either end. I bring a portable air conditioner if it's hot and a heater if it's cold. I have a springbar canvas tent so both of those work very well in terms of moderating extreme temperatures. And I got them on sale for $33 today and I'm sure with inflation they're normally twice that.
Great review. Question for you. I bought the Wise Owl based on your review and went to get another Large one because we like the size and comfort, but I can’t find them anywhere and Wise Owl said they discontinued the Large size. Any recommendations for something of similar size and comfort? Afraid the try the Thermarest as I didn’t want my head to sink in like you mention. Thanks!
Oh no! Honestly there is no comparing the thermarest compressible pillow because it just doesn't stack up. I actually use the Wise Owl pillow on my bed at home too so I'm dissapointed to hear this news. Nothing off the top of my head comes to mind that would be a good replacement. Comlubia on the go makes a similar pillow but it's only 14x18 inches wide. Might want to investigate the new Roll & Go Anywhere pillow by MyPillow? I've never tried it but it might be worth a shot. That's a bummer it's been discontinued.
Great video! one of the best I've seen so far. May I ask why you stopped using the wise owl at home? I'm having neck pain as well and kind of looking for a pillow I can use for both camping and at home. Thanks!
the thermarest pillows actually wash up great. they also loft a lot more after they are uncompressed but it takes time for them to loft up to maximum. if you are car camping and don't have to compress it in its football shape, great - otherwise, just be sure to open it up and shake it around long before bedtime. we've had our oldest theramests for easily 15 years and they've faded but otherwise are still going strong.
I wasn't a fan. I found the loft to shift around versus the Wise Owl which is more firm but similar construction type as the Thermarest compressible pillow. My wife loves the thermarest pillow.
Good review, have to say never really considered getting a pillow always roll my jacket up. But some of these luxury items are sounding real good nowadays.
These are a bit big for backpacking. I have a backpacking pillow video that will drop in a couple weeks. I used the Wise Owl over the weekend though when it was 4F and it was nice to have the extra insulation of a compressible pillow for insulation. It helped to keep me warm.
Great review and comparison. I use an old pillow that came with my Coleman 0* bag and it is awesome. I've tried some inflatable pillows and I don't like them. I like the Wise Owl products as well. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work!
I use inflatable pillows only when backpacking in the summer. I like a compressible pillow in winter for backpacking due to extra warmth. I have a Wise Owl pillow for use at home too. I have a hard time getting comfy on regular pillows because I find they are too big. Plus my cats take up a lot of room in my bed so I can't use a regular sized pillow. Lol
very nice video, just if you could add links of the presented products on the description it will be easier for us (just a suggestion). Continue how and what you are doing !
No kidding! Lol she just ordered her Wise Owl pillow yesterday and I ordered a second one for home in my bed. I've has a lot of neck.pain lately and this pillow seemed to help with that!
Hoh-lee Smokes! $40 for a camping pillow? I bought a "my pillow" for home for $40 and thought that was outrageous!! Lol, guess "bigger and badder" lurks everywhere...🙄😲🤑
Might as well pay 40 bucks for a brick as hard as that pillow was in the cold. Incidentally is the My Pillow any good? I've considered getting one before but the price is a bit much.
MyPillow? Think Thermarest...lol! Seriously, the first 6 months was awesome, couldn't rip it away from me! After that, it needed fluffed every night, which was still ok. Now, a year later, it's like the Thermarest...your head settles in and the foam goes above your head. In all fairness, my pillow was king size and firm fill, so maybe a regular size and fill may be different. All said, I wouldn't buy another one.
@@whiteflower5603 Ah ok I will save my 40 bucks for some more camping gear I surely dont need. That thermarest has become my snuggle pillow as I call it. Basically since my winter sleeping bag is so big the thermarest lays in the sleeping bag with me and helps to fill the hole so no air comes in. Everything can have a purpose lol
Glad to hear Wise Owl won. I actually ordered that pillow before I saw your review. Thanks for the awesome information.
No problem! Good luck!
Me too! Glad I made a good choice
Thank you! I've been so indecisive but I'm sold on the Wise Owl. Great video 🛌
It's a fabulous camping pillow!
Awe... The Lazy Bear Pillow is cute!
I thought so too. Comfy!

I've got the medium size I believe and I love it. I even have one I use on the couch and used one at home in bed for a while too!
Helpful, thank you!
Hope you found one you like.
Love the reviews! Was considering getting the Klymit Drift Pillow until I saw you review. Thank you for being very informative on each brand.
No problem! Have decided which one you're going to go with?

I was surprised in cold temps (freezing or close to freezing) how hard it was!

Nice video and reviews. I have not yet found a good pillow. Take Care and Keep Exploring The Outdoors.
Oh that Wise Owl is nice! They make smaller sizes as well in that pillow if the 13oz is too heavy.
I’ve been using a compressible pillow for years. Love it
Yeah its comfy for sure.

Seems like a fair rating system that you used!
We tried to make it fair across all competing brands.
I like big fluffy pillows!!!
Me too. Sleep is precious!
You can add and remove foam from the klymit
I did not know that! How is this accomplished?

I used to bring my memory foam pillow camping until I brought it winter camping. It was like sleeping on stacked 2x4s!!!
