7800 XT is a top rated card this generation. 6800 XT only dropped below $500 because of the 7800 XT release. You can look at it 2 different ways. Either as a 6800 XT refresh, where you get it cheaper (MSRP), slightly faster, and more power efficient. Or as a 7800 non-XT (it compares more closely specs-wise to a 6800 non-XT), in which case you are getting a generational improvement for a still lower MSRP than the 6800 was. It's not super exciting, but it's quite good compared to what else is out there right now.

It could only perform better from here, and hopefully it will become a better deal later on with price cuts, that will inevitably happen at some point.

Games themselves have become so stagnant. In 6 years we went from Quake to Far Cry. Between '93 and '97 we went from Doom, Mortal Kombat II and Ridge Racer to Goldeneye 007, FFVII and Gran Turismo. It took 4 years to go from Bully to RDR1. What have we had since 2013? Certainly not GTA 6. In the last 5 years? We went from Zero Dawn to Cyberpunk holding the torch for graphical advancements. We got ray tracing on nVidia-only cards and the mainstream 2 consoles. From the PS1 to the PS2 we got 10x more total RAM; PS2 to PS3 we got 6x more system memory. PS3 to 4, 30x more RAM. PS4 as to 5? Twice. That's it. It took as long to get to the PS5 from the 4 as it did the PS2 from the 1. Nobody's trying to push the envelope. Nobody wants to experiment. Nobody's innovating. Nobody's inventing. Even the automotive space has seen more revolutionary changes recently.

4070 went to 520 USD recently and honestly for long term id argue it better suffices despite less vram, now if the 6950 xt got to $550 as well then it would be another conversation
I have a hobby of watching prices for gpus, in case I find 500 bucks lying around. The only thing to consider is that the 7000 series is newer, and tvus its drivers should, in theory, be better suited for more modern games. For 50 more bucks, I'd go for the 7800.
Same thing happens with phones. Companies make good price to performance phones then next year discontinue that model to introduce a newer expensive model which usually is not worth the price.
good note, however you can get cases fitting 350mm for less than $100, so for new builds, that $50 max for a bigger case shouldn’t be an issue if you aren’t ready to pay 30% or more for compactness of the same performance, especially because cases with 350mm+, like ARX 700, will fit anything and probably won’t need replacement even in 20 years
I mean Rx 7700 xt pricing was little bit of disappointment like the last year 6700 xt but Rx 7800 xt is a huge W, I hope they lower the price like Rx 7900 xt
Maybe a point to consider. The 7800 xt is not great as an upgrade. But schould be used for a new build (if budget allows ofcourse) I have that one and amd cpu (7800x3D). I think that difference also should be noted. And the 7800xt has the newer rdna 3.0.
I used to be an AMD guy back in the Athlon days for CPUs. But always went with Nvidia over ATI for GPUs. I'm switching back to AMD for CPU and for the first time leaving green, well since the old banshee days anyway. So I'm going full AMD because of Nvidia and Intel price gouging. Intel isn't as bad as it used to be though. Competition is important, so if more people would realize that switching it up from time to time makes the market/prices better, we wouldn't be going through the price gouging.
I will keep preaching, the 7800xt has better options for small form factors like mATX than the 6800xt. It fits a build I previously had to put a 6750xt in which I am very grateful for!

The 7800XT OC versions are closer to a 6900XT than 6800XT and if you manually OC them, they surpass 6900XT's performance. They're actually quite good overclockers. So the 6800XT is not a better buy, especially that it consumes more power and lacks a few features.
Last I checked (a little under a week ago) the 6800xt was priced equal or more, in almost every case it was more. Sometimes even 100-150 more. I bought the 7800xt. Can’t complain, just seems dumb that the prices went up in like 2 weeks since this video.
6800XTs won’t be around forever right? Also a solid 50W drop in power draw plus AV1 encode/decode. Overall perf is basically the same but $30 for those two boosts isn’t bad.
Actually since hyper rx is released, anti lag+ only works for 7000 cards. This would make it edge out the 6800 especially when counting frame interpolation in 2024.
This happens every new card cycle. New cards will get better as drivers get updated and games optimize for the new generation of cards. This is no longer 2005, where graphic cards spike in quality with every new generation. Often, increases in performance are smaller now, and compete with the performance of cards that have tons of developer optimization already.
I mean yeah, unless you want dlss or cuda or raytracing or vsr or something else nvidia exclusive. I’d argue that dlss alone is worth the price premium.
@stephan4923 well there’s plenty of tests of it on RUclips. I like it cause it does a fine job removing compression artifacts from videos. If you’re watching RUclips or movies on a high res display/tv it’s real nice to have.
I just bought a 7800 XT because it has the same performance as a 4070ti (or about the same) but it costs FAR less. Couldn’t justify going with Nvidia this time.
the 7800 xt runs at a mych lower wattage compared to the 6800 xt, with better raytracing, and driver uodates that pushes it over the edge. plus, amd keeps working on experimental drivers with the 7000 series.

(I’ve tried looking into it) or if it’s a little hotter. He’s shown builds before that were getting 100-120+ frames on things like cod which I play a lot but on max settings and minimum settings I still get like 90-100fps and tons of drops down into 70s and possibly lower. The freezes and stutters, how hot it gets and wondering why I feel like I should be getting more frames than I do. I have a couple other issues that I also don’t understand, my mouse, keyboard, headset, and mic will all just disconnect and all my fans rgb will shut off and then it’ll all connect again. As of 2024, the 7800 xt is around $475-$500, but the 6800 xt is above it now at about $550-$600.
Just hold on guys there will be driver updates and then u can make your decision better
That makes me feel better about my 6800xt even though i already thought it was underrated. Mine gets 150+ fps in most titles in 4k
glad to see i didnt scam myself when i bought the 6800xt
Sweet!!!
This guy is a Budget Master!!!
I will wait for the RTX 5060 4GB. 🔥
Had to choose between 4070 and 7800 got a 7800 will see how it goes , still happy about this for the moment saved some cash to get a better motherboard instead of wasting money on a 4070… some people will not understand what’s the big deal of 100$ … well instead of motherboard or 200$ you get a 300$ strong as F
Just bought a 7800xt for 360 and im prettying happy with it
Red Devil 6800xt gang!
Im glad 6000 series is able to keep with 7000 series. Only generational improvement was power consumption.
For a new owner sure go with 7800xt if can afford it + drivers age better overtime.
Otherwise 6800xt is still going hard.
Just pulled the trigger on the 7800 xt. Let’s see how it performs 🙏🏼
It could only perform better from here, and hopefully it will become a better deal later on with price cuts, that will inevitably happen at some point.
Decent purchase. Regardless of what you get you wont regret it unless its a 4070 or 4070ti 😂
Been 3 months. Updates? Because I’m looking at this to be my next upgrade from my 3070.
I'm also interested in updates here as I'm planning to upgrade from a 3070ti to this AMD or the 4070 super.
@@uncannyvalley3190don’t upgrade, 3070 is still fine. wait a year or two then buy a gpu you could probably buy the 7800xt for 300 dollars used
I’m still on a gtx 1050ti about to jump to a 7800xt. Pixels are gonna hit different
Better drivers, longer life, better RT, and better support then the 6800XT for not much more new versus a used 6800XT. the 7800XT is clearly better then the previous gen
Hey guys, buy the 7800 if you want the rdna 3 architecture but the 6800 if you have a lower budget and do not mind having rdna 2
Gaming and hardware seems so stagnant it just seems like a good time to just enjoy what we have. I'll replace when things break.

Im on a 730, going to rx 550. Its not much but is honest work.
For like $80 on the used market you can get a 1060 6gb which is way faster
i dont live in us. (1060 6gb is almost 3 times the price of the 550 here) @@theaverageblitzer4351
Upgrading from 2070 to this so flight sim actually looks ok and isn’t stuttering. Excited
In my country Rx 6800 XT is almost twice as expensive as an Rx 7800 XT so I'm definitely gonna go for the latter
i have a 6800xt i got last year it was a 1200 one new i got open box for 650 i game at 4k in warthunder average around 120fps i have it paired with a ryzen 7 extremely hot running 5800x i think i acidently made the perfect combo not really knowing as much as i do now when i built it
4070 went to 520 USD recently and honestly for long term id argue it better suffices despite less vram, now if the 6950 xt got to $550 as well then it would be another conversation
I have a hobby of watching prices for gpus, in case I find 500 bucks lying around.
The only thing to consider is that the 7000 series is newer, and tvus its drivers should, in theory, be better suited for more modern games. For 50 more bucks, I'd go for the 7800.
AMD refuses to lose to anyone, except themselves
If fsr 3 would actually turn out to be a good alternative. I'd go for this gpu. The dlss technology is what keeping the nvidia's gpu alive.
Same thing happens with phones. Companies make good price to performance phones then next year discontinue that model to introduce a newer expensive model which usually is not worth the price.
6800xt also uses more power and is almost always a triple fan cooler 300+mm, some 7800xt are twin fan coolers and under 280mm
good note, however you can get cases fitting 350mm for less than $100, so for new builds, that $50 max for a bigger case shouldn’t be an issue if you aren’t ready to pay 30% or more for compactness of the same performance, especially because cases with 350mm+, like ARX 700, will fit anything and probably won’t need replacement even in 20 years
I mean Rx 7700 xt pricing was little bit of disappointment like the last year 6700 xt but Rx 7800 xt is a huge W, I hope they lower the price like Rx 7900 xt
How the hell do u already have a 7800 xt lol. I ordered mine day 1 and it isn’t arriving for 2 weeks

i were about to buy a 6950 XT but I decided to buy the 7800 XT it's less it's a little better in most games it's newer and I got the limited edition for the same I got it for 567

I really hope AMD gets better with ray tracing, it's pretty much the only thing stopping me
Actually since hyper rx is released, anti lag+ only works for 7000 cards. This would make it edge out the 6800 especially when counting frame interpolation in 2024.
That's what I've been wondering since yesterday I'm going to just go with the old 7900 xt cuz the price should have come down from the $700 range
I have an 7800 xt and it is great . IT performa Well and can Run practicly anything in 1440p
This happens every new card cycle. New cards will get better as drivers get updated and games optimize for the new generation of cards. This is no longer 2005, where graphic cards spike in quality with every new generation. Often, increases in performance are smaller now, and compete with the performance of cards that have tons of developer optimization already.
I was looking to ask you this question and was trying to find your channel... The only thing I'll upgrade next year black Friday I'll upgrade to am5
I mean yeah, unless you want dlss or cuda or raytracing or vsr or something else nvidia exclusive. I’d argue that dlss alone is worth the price premium.
@stephan4923 I mean Nvidia’s vsr, Video Super Resolution.
@stephan4923 well there’s plenty of tests of it on RUclips. I like it cause it does a fine job removing compression artifacts from videos. If you’re watching RUclips or movies on a high res display/tv it’s real nice to have.
I'm expecting the power consumption to be way higher in the 6800, costing more money in electricity over time and requiring a bigger PSU
I just bought a 7800 XT because it has the same performance as a 4070ti (or about the same) but it costs FAR less. Couldn’t justify going with Nvidia this time.
I just bought a rx 7800 xt and can’t wait to give it ago with my Ryzen 7 7800x3d

No. Its not even good for RUclips, come on.
the 7800 xt runs at a mych lower wattage compared to the 6800 xt, with better raytracing, and driver uodates that pushes it over the edge. plus, amd keeps working on experimental drivers with the 7000 series.
Hate those long documentary videos a a gpu review from GN
Same price but more features such as hyper Rx and av1 encoding
As a linux user i see this as a win
Me watching this rn rocking a core i3 gen 4 no dedicated gpu 16 gigs of ram and one big dream
I’ve seen a lot of the videos of him answering peoples build questions and recommending different types of builds. I had a question for a while but just never been sure on it. I’ve had my gpu for 2 years now, everything else I’ve had for a little over a year since I bought a prebuilt and upgraded to a new case, ram, cooler, fans, power supply and mb. I play on 1440 with a 165hz monitor and I feel like it runs good but I still get stutters and hiccups every now and then and it gets really hot but I’m not sure if it’s the average temp? (I’ve tried looking into it) or if it’s a little hotter. He’s shown builds before that were getting 100-120+ frames on things like cod which I play a lot but on max settings and minimum settings I still get like 90-100fps and tons of drops down into 70s and possibly lower. The freezes and stutters, how hot it gets and wondering why I feel like I should be getting more frames than I do. I have a couple other issues that I also don’t understand, my mouse, keyboard, headset, and mic will all just disconnect and all my fans rgb will shut off and then it’ll all connect again. On top of it recently I’ve been getting a lot of icue crashes. My pc has just been all over the place but if anyone has any idea on what it might be or even if he answers, that’d be incredible, thank you!
if you change resolusion like that and fps doesnt change then you are cpu limited
or your cpu could be temp throttling
@@OdinAlgeron sitting on cod main menu and minimum settings I sit at 100-110 fps with spikes jumping higher and low gpu temps which it shows 3 on icue is 154, 176, and 166. Cpu temp is 111. I’m only using roughly 20% of the cpu, it drops to about 16 and goes up to about 25. Are those too high?
@@kyusuvi for cpu bottleneck you should be looking at total gpu usage not cpu %, windows can move around work to get temps under control hiding actual cpu usage

Ugh... the GPU market is such a mess right now for mid-tier.
There just isn't a clear winner I can point at and with the 50 series NVidia around the corner it doesn't make sense to make up my mind for the next few months.
Luckily, I can wait it out and maybe pick up a discounted GPU after those 50 series drop.

We have to keep in mind tho, that didn't all rx 6000 series cards improve a lot on performance with driver updates? like 6800xt / 6950xt
AMD doesn't have competitions. They don't need them. They create them for themselves
Yeah…a game with a good story and smooth movement. A nice graphik and fun to play. That is important. I give a shit if RT is better on NVIDIA. It's not like AMD doesn't have RT at all. 6800 being a better buy is debatable if you consider power consumption
Interesting.
the video is quite old now, but always check the prices in your country
Day 5 of askingI have a Amd ryzen 5 1600 and a Radeon rx 570 series. What should i upgrade? Love the vids
For southeast asia. Not a single 6800 xt card exist. So I guess the 7800 xt is a must buy
I think AMDs naming is a bit misleading due to them adding extra high end skus and dropping non-xt varients. The 7900xt is more equivalent to the 6800xt wears the 7800xt is more in line with the 6800 non-xt. 6800xt is still a great used deal though!
Now they are about the same price in the US
Dam thats crazy, the 7800 is coming out and i still use a rx 480

When amd optimizes drivers in there cards then the 7800xt will perform better .

Please help me broo I like your videos, wish you more success on YT and in your private life 😊
ye and calling out that if you are already a proud owner of a ryzen cpu you could boost up your fps up to around 30% or more if you use the AMD SAM feature, that is only available if you pair a Radeon card with an Ryzen CPU :) so if you have it like me, i would say, go for Radeon, just trust me, look for a AMD SAM on vs off vid then you see what i mean :)
Lol SAM is just AMDs marketing name for resizable bar, which is available on Intel Cpus too. It's literally not an exclusive feature lol it works with Nvidia and Intel GPUs as well
