    My friend's old 235 gets MUCH better GPS reception than my new 245, regardless of which settings we tried. (My 245 was good until it updated - frustrating.)

      I believe Garmin switched GPS between the 235 and the 245. I believe they're using a Sony chip now. Better battery life but worst GPS. The 245 is still a great watch.

    I read somewhere: GLONASS is usually more accurate in mountainous areas, while Galileo is more accurate in urban areas. Galileo should be slightly more accurate than GLONASS, depending on its surroundings.......

    Many thanks for the prompt description about GPS..... I understand that Glonass is a Russian statelite and Galileo is European Union so which one or combination ie GPS + GALILEO is better for low battery consumption
    I charge by Fenix 6 weekly as I run daily and the battery drops a lot quicker many most.... I live in the UK and still need a great GPS but one that doesn't eat my battery and ideas any one ??

    How do I get my Fenix to work in the woods? I run on trails and also use strava, my garmin always tracks less distance than strava. I see other people running those same trails and their data seems fine (a 3 mile run appears as 3 miles, whereas for me it appears as 2.75... i have it set to 1 sec/GPS+, I have 3d distance and elevation on... what else am i missing... this is so frustrating)

    I have tried all the options, but still no GPS signal. I was using this watch for almost 6 years and having issues with the GPS for the past 1 week. So I started running with no GPS run/walk but Garmin started to power off and ON automatically and reducing the distance during the activity.

    • @michelines.laguide9259

      Same here with a 5 year-old Vivoactive. Mine started shutting off in the middle of walks that I was tracking (i.e., using GPS) during the winter as if it ran out of battery in 30 minutes, even on a full charge. I figured my battery was too old to simultaneously endure the cold and use GPS, so I stopped using the GPS function until the warm weather returned. Now, some 4 months later, I am no longer able to connect to GPS. Tried everything, reboot, factory reset, re-paired with my phone, ensured sensors are set to GPS + GLONASS, all permissions are enabled, latest software on watch and app are installed, brought my phone outside when trying to get GPS signal. None of it is working. As someone else suggested, I'm starting to think this is planned obsolescence. I'd like to know whether this might be a behaviour relating to the battery life. Yet, when the watch shuts off from getting 'tired' of looking for a signal, it shows some 70% remaining battery life when I plug it in to charge. Disappointing. We get used to our gadgets and it would be nice not to have to replace on a hunch (that the battery is the issue). We waste enough stuff as is.

    Does your phone have to be in proximity? My venu won't connect to gps unless my phone is in proximity... the phone symbol flashes showing it's trying to connect to my smart phone... but why does it need to be connected to my smart phone? I thought the venu was able to connect to gps without a phone?

    What is the difference between the Glonass and Galileo? I live in Delaware in the US. I will be travelling to Europe in a few weeks. What do I need to do to make sure I get good GPS connection in Europe? Thanks! Love your videos!

    • @GaugingGadgets
      @GaugingGadgets  5 лет назад +3

      This is a great question. Basically they are two additional types of satellite navigation systems, GLONASS was created by the Russians and Galileo by the European Union. So if you're traveling to Europe, I recommend using GPS + Galileo. Thank you for all of your support. Have a great trip to Europe!

    • @abartos
      @abartos 5 лет назад +6

      GPS is USA GNSS system, GLONASS is Russian, and Galileo by European Union as @Gauging Gadgets mentioned. GPS, and GLONASS are available on whole Earth, Galileo will be fully operational probably in 2020. In Europe there should be no difference which one you choose. In US it is better to choose GPS + GLONASS for now.

      @@Varss23 UltraTrac is a power saving mode. It causes that obtaining positions is not continuous, but triggered at intervals. If you want more accuracy / reliability, try setting GPS and Galileo simultaneously if you have this capability(or GPS + Glonass if you live in Russia).

  • @epramatarov
    @epramatarov 3 года назад

    Ok, so I ran a total of 15 miles today and everything about that run was messed up. My Garmin says that my best mile was run at a pace of 5:56, however, when I looked at my pace graph, the fastest I ran was 6:20 ... And that's not all. I got a new PR for running a mile in 4:45 !? That's just SO wrong. Looking at the map, some segments weren't even recorded properly as I think the GPS stopped working so it messed everything up. I live in the UK and just changed to GPS + GALILEO and I am really hoping this gets fixed.
    Do you guys know why this has happened? It's very frustrating. Also, thanks for the video.

    i hace the 245 and im a little bit confused of the procedure for starting a run. First i press Run, then usually i go to options and seek for a saved route, then i have to wait for gps? or inmediately have to run?.
