My dad bought the space gray 128 GB wi-fi version of iPad Air for my mom yesterday. I helped her set it up by backing up stuff from her old iPad 2 with 16 GB (it was starting to become really slow and she had a dozen photos on it) and transfer it all onto the new device and she seems to be really satisfied with it. I hope to upgrade from my iPad 2 to the iPad Air myself later sometime this year, it definitely seems like a worthy upgrade. And the retina screen is amazing, almost worth the upgrade alone!

I ordered the yellow one thinking it was going to be a bright vibrant color. Instead I looks like more of a Gold color. I personally prefer the gold look. Definitely not disappointed but just a heads up to the ones expecting a brighter cream of yellow.

I prefer black because to me when I'm playing games or watching a movie,the white pops out and is slightly distracting.

Totally agree. Love the look of the white...until i'm actually using the device. The black disappears when viewing in the dark, much easier on the eyes IMO.

One of the best detailed reviews of the iPads I've seen so far. I really like it. Makes the techgeek come out of me more and want to replace my iPad 2. But I guess I'll let it die before I go out for further consumption :P
I've never seen a TV with a white face. Black gives the face the appearance of being larger and does not take your focus away from the screen as much.

The first time I held the iPad Air in my hands I was just amazed by how light it is. It's hard to believe it's so light.. Truly deserving it's new name!

Bimmer Guy It's not better, the 64bit A7 chip performs better in benchmarks. The 64 bit architecture means double the bandwidth which means double the data it can process. Plus, there's one very important advantage the iPad has: It doesn't use a virtual machine to talk to the OS.
All android devices have a virtual machine (translator) between the hardware and operating system that slows the device down. This is done to make it possible for android to run on many different devices.
In this one it serves you well to not just look at your regular how many cores what speed etc. because there are other variables like bitrate, L1 L2 and L3 cache (the latter entirely lacking in the HDX)
Then the iPad Air's on-chip gpu - PowerVR G6430 - is _much_ better than the gpu in the HDX - Adreno 330.
Besides the HDX has two versions: 7" and 8.9" which make them lighter than the iPad Air (9,7) and iPad Mini (7.9) but the Mini is right between the two in weight. So they weigh relatively the same.
The Air feels even lighter since it's bigger but not much extra is added. (or in fact the other way around the Mini *-doesn't weigh as much-* *correction:* _weighs more_ because unlike the predecessor they equipped the Mini with the same hardware as the Air.)
In the end you can expect the iPad to run much smoother than the HDX.
Anyway they are both probably nice devices and if you're doubting which to get, just go and try them both out at a store.

Space Gray to answer your question. I'm an older gal here and my husband and I just got basic cell phones and an ipad air which we've had no experience with. We were looking for video help and I have to say your videos are by far the best. I'm learning so much! Thanks for the great job you do. Now I'm hoping one day to get the iphone. Just goes to show...you can teach an old dog new tricks.

I've use plenty of headphones/earbuds, and I think Apple's earbuds sound really good. They aren't the best, but they certainly aren't terrible.

The point most people miss about Apple is that Apple is not really a technology company; it is a marketing company that happens to sell technology (very well, thank you very much). Yes, it does produce tech products but if you look past the hype and their "revolutionary" products (a shame when a perfectly good word is reduced to being meaningless by being misapplied ad nauseum), and if you look at what their real bottom line goal is, what you see is a wonderfully crafty marketing organization. A marketing organization whose goal is to tempt you to use its technology so that they can get you locked in for forever and a day into their ecosystem that means they will be getting a cut out of whatever you purchase while within it.
This is why they are so profitable. Steve Jobs may not have been anyone you would have wanted as a friend - if you like nice people for friends - but no one would ever accuse him of being a dummy! lol
He created an organization and a mystique for Apple that was built on catering to image; knowing full well that if he could get kids hooked on his products - the single most image conscious segment of human society - and keep them hooked on Apple and even get them to define cool and Apple as one in the same - little details like reality and wise buying decisions would fall by the wayside. and like the Jesuits that say, "Give me a young man as a boy and I will guarantee you his religion for life." (or words to that effect) Jobs knew that people keep habits.
Does Apple make a good product - of course. The problem is that the price they exact in terms of what you must submit to, in my opinion, is no where near commensurate, nor justifiable, for the return.
But, to each his own, if someone doesn't want to look too deeply into the why fors, the what nots, of their purchase and doesn't care about the fact that Apple will be the one dictating to you how and what you may do with your device - then, go for it. but I will not be joining in the "fun".
