THE Best Tony Award Show Opening EVER !!!! They should try each year to just live up to this opening....AMAZING...what it must have felt like to have been there live!!
Can we talk about Sasha Allen's crazy riffs during "let the sunshine in"? She is insanely talented, as is the rest of the cast, she should have been a MAJOR star ages ago!!!
The very end... when they all come together and sing "Let the sun shine" is why I LOVE broadway. It's just so amazing :) I get teary eyed every time I see watch it. It's just so moving. :') They're amazing. I dream to be one of them one day.

Ok. I'm 48. This is the first Tony Awards show that I can remember that the opening number received a standing ovation let alone one that lasted that long and was that energetic. Get the name of the Muse that inspired it and get the Muse under contract! This was just an overture to a truly fantastic show!
That is without a doubt one of the best opening numbers ever. The it is one thing to have seen it on TV. To have actually been there and experienced it would have been awesome.
That ending is great on so many levels. So many people in theatre were changed because of the song and show. Seeing them all singing like together is great.

Liza is a real trouper. It is plain to see that she is physically in diminished form, not able to move around like she did so brilliantly before. Hats off to her gallant effort, her indomitable spirit. May she live the rest of her years knowing how much the public admires her.
I saw "Hair" last night and was shocked at the ending. I'd seen this Broadway opening before I saw the musical, and I thought it was supposed to be a happy song! haha
wel i like to say i wish a lot of stars get there life together and don't do drugs because i love what they bring to the table is great talent and liza minnelli is still my great lady happy birthday this month.
This is the epitome of what I love about broadway: no matter what your tastes, there's probably an amazing show about it. It also shows what I love about theatre: theatre people are your family.
the other day, when a friend mentioned they were on 'the view,' i was reminded of the opening of the tonys. watched it when it originally aired and after seeing them again yesterday, was happy to revist. bless you tube. can't stop watching. new york here i come, i only hope that the original cast is still there, especially Ms Allen and Ms. Case, but they are all magnificent. outstanding!
It's not my favorite show ever but I took my nephew to it and he loved it. It's kind of like an intro to broadway for kids but not the most enjoyable experience for adults.
Not only was the performance great (Liza looks just like her mom, and Allison Janney? YAY!!) but I've never seen the audience get into it like that, and I've been watching these for a while. FUN!!

Have been in Italy since May and the youtube connexction that I get there was not coming through for the Tony's this past June, always with that little circle thing spinning and spitting words out. Now I have seen it and I think it is the best opening I have seen of any Tony award's show, that I remember. HAIR ending it was so, well, inclusive, all there, with Elton John and Liza, singing this year's new US Motto (again) of "Let the Sun Shine". Mood of nation, most of us, shown clear,

I've worked at the Tonys for the last 11 years...nothing comes close to that opening...even during rehearsal when they were saving their voices it was "holy shit this rocks" but then during the live show it was "holy shit this is the mst amazing thing I have seen..." the audience n the back of the house was on their feet dancing during Hair
This was sooo fabulous...it really made me want to see 'Hair' and 'Pal Joey', and minus the whole Poison performing, I kinda want to see 'Rock of Ages'. The ending was so perfect and made up for all the sound problems. But you gotta think, having people dressed up like they were from the 60s, 70s, and 80s must have thrown Liza for a loop. Lord knows how many meds she's on, but she's still friggin' fabulous. And for being 60+, Stockard was lookin' pretty good.
Ahhh that's amazing! I love the end when everybody's on stage dancing! Definitely a great start to an awesome awards show! Everybody looked like they were having fun! Ooo I love Broadway!!

I agree so! When I was a kid, and all the other snotty little HS kids were making fun of me, etc...throwing me into lockers, I still went on to love the theatre, and continue to do so, every day!
The highlight of the opening number was HAiR's performance when they brought everyone on stage and people from the audience. AWESOMNESS! I wanna see HAiR soooo BAD now!!!
