This was very cute. This reminded me, of a similar situation to mine. Though mine was a tad bit, different.
I had been simply a TV... Engineer up to that point. As in, television not the other. I didn't dress up as a TV. I dressed up as a TV engineer. There's a slight difference. And during this time I did a TV show as in television. Not the other. Of an entertainment variety show at NBC-TV. And on this particular show they featured. All of these folk from the legendary Gay Drag Queen clubs that still existed in Washington DC. Back around 1984, 35 years ago. And as it turns out. I had personally known one of these, um, guys. As he had been also, an opera singer. And he was a student, of my mom. Who is a former Metropolitan Opera star, in the late 1940s. And where,, at the same time... I had expanded my professional career opportunities. Beyond that of, being a multi-major music award nominee, Audio Engineer. I also moved into doing, Professional Photography. And I had invested on a substantial professional set up. Of photographic equipment. In order to be able to do, Publicity, photos. Of, Opera singers, musicians and well, Drag Queens. Doing publicity and beauty shots of them.. When they said. They should do me up.
So in just a few minutes time, it seems. They did all my makeup. They dressed me up. They did my hair. I had long hair. As I was a hippie recording engineer. And with my studio photographic equipment set up.. They started taking pictures of me. As I had taken pictures of them with my rig. And what I ended up developing was amazing. By the time I got done developing the film and printing a couple of 8 x 10 pictures. It was obvious to me. What a spectacular job they did. In making me look like, a prostitute drag queen.
It was absolutely amazing. Rather shocking to see myself that way. But I said to these guys. You made me look like a drag queen. They looked at me and smiled and said, so what did you expect? I found it amazing. To see the real me. So I made that permanent. Like forever and ever now. And there's no going back. To work for NBC-TV. But I did. Just like that. Kind of. I couldn't do the makeup as well as they did. I couldn't do my hair as well as they did. And well, it kind of changed me forever. For the better. Sort of. As I had spent more time on electronic circuitry. Than, I had. Doing my own makeup. And was great fixing electronic circuitry. Not great at putting on my own makeup. And pretty... much, just go rather,, Plain Jane. With just the natural beautiful me. Like all of the other female colleague engineers I worked alongside. We only wore the best fashion. On sale from Walmart.. Only the best, sneakers and bluejeans. And free T-shirts. With, recording studio, television and photographic equipment, promotional advertisements on the T-shirts. Where only the best equipment manufacturers, would do. And not other musical instruments nor automobile parts manufacturers. That wouldn't do. As I personally had the Lexicon. Of the Ampex of Professional Audio Equipment, manufacturers. That make hit records. Not amateur ones.
I guess I looks great as a Drag Queen. But I really was nothing more than a Jewish American Princess. Even though all of my equipment was from, America, the UK, Germany. I thought my geisha girl makeup was highly inappropriate. Because I didn't use much Japanese equipment. So I don't know what they were thinking? They seemed to be pleased. With my garish appearance. And they told me I should start doing Drag Shows. I told them. I just didn't have the car for that. I had a Chevy van. Which only had a Chevy 350 in.³ V-8 engine. Small block. And I would not have done well in a Drag Show. And they did not know what I was talking about?
In the end. I pretty much gave up doing professional photography. And just concentrated on audio. Where my recordings were always beautiful without me. Being on the cover of Drag Show Weekly. Where I'd rather be on the cover of Billboard Magazine. If ya follow?
Now it's 35 years later and I'm 65. Now I look like an old bag. Just like my purse. Which is. Well-worn. Along with holes in my panties. Just like my jockey shorts. No butts about it. As I'm not that kind of engineer.. I'M A LADY GOD DAMMIT! And there will be no butt, cracks! DO I MAKE MYSELF UNDERSTOOD?! Hardly. Which, I can never be anymore. Hardly I can never be hardly again. As I've cut my own nose off. Despite my own phase. In a manner of speaking. As it wasn't my nose. That was extended with only a single nostril.. And I turned my back on that. And didn't want to go in reverse. The way they liked to.
So in the end. Once again. Ouch. I wasn't recording as much audio as I was, TV's. And I had to get back to my roots. Even though I had it cut off. And I've had to look within. Because now I am without.. Being out. Now I'm in. I'm deep in the middle of things. And I never used to be. And people can get really into it. So can I. But it's a reach. For the dilator. Next to my bed. As my husband of 22 years died six years ago. And I've never been filled with love, again.
