One thing nice about those small machines is their light foot print. They can't pull the load the big machines will, but on the other side, they don't tear up the landscape so much. More trips, but they can move logs, quicker than cat logging. If you get this rig running, it should pull a lot more logs for you than the cat with the worn out undercarriage. I’m happy for you. You are chasing your dream. Stuck your neck out, sold what you had, made a big move and doing what makes you happy. Now starting to build up your own business. It will be a lot of work but work you enjoy. Best to you and your great family.
dandy deal, Chuck Driver is a skookum choocher too, the blades on the early Deere's were kinda junk, that one looks like its off an older A or - model, newer ones had the exter bars to keep logs from walking behind the blade... the 440's will pull harder then most will believe lol, pretty big fan of my 440-A... throw a mud flap over that winch drum, like a Gearamatic they get wet and act all goofy...
Yah he's one of the best. I've watched every single one of your videos on your A model. I'm really excited about this skidder. I'll take your advice about the winch. I hope your business is doing well sir.
@@tttco were doing... haven't made any new vids in awhile... partly cause my camera is broke... but I'm still out there makin it happen, got the machine shop up and running, even done enough to almost break even on it!
Like the power reverser in a 350 jd crawler. Just it sounds like its a on the fly shift between speeds, as well. . Only down side is, you cannot pull start it. Not that thats something regularly done though.
If thats a 4039t prob good idea to remove the turbo as it will be hard on the drive train. Not designed for it. To much power. Also turbo might not fit inside your hood. Awesome purchose though.
i know the john deere 450c has that motor not real sure on other applications but i do know they are fairly cheap to rebuild even with oem parts and are good on fuel with good power
I have a 1972 jd 440b look almost exactly like yours my blade has the extra log catchers on it and mine has a esco grapple but my winch is missing a ton of parts and right now it won't pull it's self I'm thinking it's a fuel problem i got a video on my channel if your interested mine is missing the floor board and the side of the cab the pieces that say jd440b

At times I have missed it. But I'm really excited about this 440 as I have always wanted one.
Looking forward to some build videos I hope
