Why Do Jews Have So Many Books?

The Jewish people may be called the People of the book; but why do Jewish homes have so many Torah books? And what makes a book a holy Sefer?

Jews such as myself like books because we want to understand the world because scholarship and learning is a Jewish tradition throughout history; we like it like we like breathing , it keeps us alive.
