Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the video. The wife now has 6500 miles on "Piglet". We're heading out in July to the Missouri/Arkansas Ozark Mountains. It will be her first long trip. She's already made a couple of weekend trips to bike rallies. Make a video when you get you goodies on your scooter!! Would love to see it!!! Cheers!!!!
Alex Davis... the bike you see in this video is a 2008. The 3.3 gallon tanks were available on 883's all the way back to the 2003 Anniversary Sportsters that I know of. I've personally seen several here like my wife's locally with the same tank & decal design... all 2008's This bike was new, never been titled when I bought it, but it had to be sold as used. It had 76 miles on it. It was a 2008 factory demo bike that rode around in the big HD trailer to Daytona, Sturgis, etc. for the demo ride program. The factory sells them to dealers at auction when the new models come out and my local dealer bought 3. Two Sportsters and one Super Glide. All 2008's.
thanks for the video I have 2011 sportster superlow after watching your video I went and and ordered same pipes stage 1 screaming eagle high flow intake and screaming eagle computer looking forward to getting it all installed
The total bill was $570 but that included the 1K service and all the synthetic oil that we put it on after the break-in oil was drained. Your bill shouldn't be that high without servicing. I don't remember the breakdown of the labor but you should get by for around $300 for pipe install, intake and EFI remap. Thanks for watching!! BTW... her bike sounds way better than my Wide Glide. I wan't me some Samson Street Sweepers now.
For a redlight to redlight burner, the Sportster is a great machine. Now if you get an 883 it will need one slight mod we made to make it a freeway cruiser. The 883's don't deliver the power that the 1200 Sporty does, so the HD factory put 28 tooth countershaft pulleys on the 883 to get some low end power back. The 1200 come stock with a 29 tooth pulley. We installed a 29 tooth pulley on my wife's bike. It resulted in a lower RPM on the freeway and boosted the MPG up to 52.
BUSTED!!! You are so right!!! After the bike was set up as you see it in the video, we have since added a studded Mustang solo saddle and matching fender bib, luggage rack, Memphis Shades windshield, and a fringed buffalo skin fork bag. The Queen is happy for now with her bike... but when we do stop by the dealer, she makes a beeline to the clothes section. Me?? I just find a place to sit and wait. We are gonna be a while!!
The Sportster is a GREAT bike for riders of a smaller stature. My wife is 5'8" and handles her Sporty like a champ. She may be moving up to a larger Low Rider or Super Glide in the future. My observation is that the Sportster is top heavy and when my wife was a novice rider she came close to dropping her bike at slow speed (pulling into parking spaces, etc.). That soon went away and she rides like a pro now.
+Pablo Andrade Herrera Actually... I'm a native of Louisiana. But I do have an accent that won't be mistaken for New York or New Jersey!!! Not ragging on them becasue I do have several friends from Jersey and some that live "in the city"!!! Thanks for watching!!!!!
I ended up buying a 2007 Sportster today (05-16-15) with the Vance & Hines staggered short shots exactly like the ones in the video. Mine had the baffles removed and is EXTREMELY loud! I like it but will put the baffles back in. It also has a V&H fuel pak and a screamin eagle air filter with chrome cover. The bike has a little over 14K miles. It runs good but has a slight misfire or something. It is a FINE bike though and I really think I'll enjoy this bike. Might take it to Baton Rouge HD and see if they can get the miss out of it. Also has a valve cover leak on left side and brake light doesn't work when the foot brake it pressed but works with hand brake.
231MasseyFerguson Putting the standard baffle back in may solve your misfire problem. The V&H Fuelpack setting the installer chose may be set for the standard baffle and then removed the baffle at a later time. Enjoy your scooter. My wife's bike has the standard baffles and it has plenty of bark. There ain't no sneaking out of the neighborhood before daylight when she cranks up.
Thank you for watching, Sue!! The topheaviness is something that will become second nature. It's just a byproduct of the design. You won't go wrong with the V&H Staggered Short Shots exhausts. Everywhere we go, my wife gets so many compliments on the look and sound of her bike. The pipes do fit the lines of the bike well. Please... for maximum performance, don't omit the addition of a hi-flow intake and a remap of your bike's fuel injection system. Enjoy and above all, ride safe!!
The Vance & Hines exhausts were purchased from Dennis Kirk. They had the lowest price of anyone and had free shipping on orders over $100. I bought the Screaming Eagle intake at the local dealer for $112. I just bought her parts a little along and stacked them in the corner, until the bike was ready to take in for it's 1000 miles service. We took the bike in and the dealer installed the pipes, intake, and did a remap of the EFI system.
It's about a 10 minute, $60 mod. Now you will lose some off the line pull, but it still has plenty, and the tradeoff of lower RPM and increased fuel mileage, it's well worth it.
You're gonna love 'em!! Noisy little bastards!!! Everywhere my wife and I go, she gets all sorts of great comments on how good her scooter sounds. Burns my ass. My Wide Glide has D&D Flow-thru slip ons and they sound good... but beside hers... they sound anemic!!
The V&H pipes you see in the video have the standard baffles installed. There is an optional quiet baffle available at additional cost... but why?? The standard baffles have plenty of bark. There is no sneaking out of the neighborhood at 4 AM for work. I have heard a 1200 Sportster with the baffles removed... it was INSANE!!
The wife just found the bill from Texas Harley Davidson. The labor charge for pipe install, intake and remap was $270 + tax. Very reasonable in my opinion The pipes were $320 from Dennis KIrk dot com.
Fine bike & good video! I'm a 31 year old male about 280 lbs and don't know about motorcycles but I have friend who do. What u think about an '06 Sportster with about 5,500 miles for $3,500? It is a fine bike and it think it might have the V & H exhaust. Would have to drive 2.5 hrs 1 way to check it out. My brother just bought a new 2015 Forty Eight Sportster 1200 and that's what made me want a HD! Thanks again!
You won't regret it. My camera has an automatic sound level adjustment, so the video really doesn't do the V&H pipes justice. The best way to tell is, you can easily hear me talking over the stock pipes and can barely hear me over the V&H's.
Im glad you showed this , pay attention folks , if a sportster is a girls bike then that makes that ol boy one healthy woman lol . Look besides that suspension that bike didnt give a damn if it was his tiney wife or him.
This is Rushfanatic87 on a new account. The color of that bike is Crimson Red Sunglow . Get it out in the sunlight, it has a very fine chartreuse green metalflake that pops in the sun.
It has the standard baffles in. There is a special order, quiet baffle available. It barks loud enough, there's no sneaking in and out of the neighborhood when we go kickstands up at 0500 going on a trip. We always leave before daylight, so we can get out of Fort Worth before the traffic gets up.
We have since added a fringed fork bag to her bike. These came from Jaminleather.com Hers is made from heavy buffalo hide and has proven to be higher quality and more durable than any of the Harley-Davidson branded bags. And her bag was only $25 plus shipping. Bargain prices for the highest quality leather.

This is why I love my Harley Davidson bikes. That bike sounds outstanding.Night and day from before
Im drooling for one of these bikes, I can't afford one, for now but I enjoy these videos, that sound is sweet. Cheers
You can find them crazy cheap these days (by Harley standards at least,) I just found a mint 05 883 for 6k at a dealership near me
Dude. Facebook marketplace. Sporty's for 1500 to 4500 all day with low mileage.
Picking up my daughter an XL883 today. Will get to work on the same modifications soon I'm sure. Thanks for posting this, still watching in near 2020.
The Staggered Short Shots do fit the lines of the bike really nice. My wife gets compliments on the look and sound everywhere we go.

You're gonna love them !!!
thanks for the video I have 2011 sportster superlow after watching your video I went and and ordered same pipes stage 1 screaming eagle high flow intake and screaming eagle computer looking forward to getting it all installed
Thanks for watching!! The wife just turned 21,000 miles on "Piglet". Now she's bugging me about a bigger bike!!!
Very smooth sounding. Nice. Piglet is a cute name but a great ted colour. Tyfs!

No efi bike will ever sound as good as a s&s zuper E Garb.

that thing sounds like a monster now. I can't wait to change mine out.
purV9ooo Post a video when you are done. Would love to hear it!!
I just picked up a 05 883 as my first bike and am already loving it. It’s a little small but nonetheless fun to ride.
The Vance & Hines exhausts were purchased from Dennis Kirk. They had the lowest price of anyone and had free shipping on orders over $100. World of Differnce !!!
Thanks for all the info. I'd say it was money well spent!
Sweet bike bro
Cheers and beers
How much $ did all those upgrades (pipes, intake, ECM remap) set you back at the HD dealer, parts and labor included? The bike sounds sweet! Thanks.
Sounds awesome!
Looks awesome and sounds better, quick question did they remove the factory balance pipes
Damn those sound better.
Wait , why they took off the plastic ? I have sportster 2007 with same Short shots but the plastic still there . What is the difference?

Nice bike
very good video, given me inspiration for my goodies lol Ride safely from London, England, Yep they sell Harley's here too lol

231MasseyFerguson 2006 with 5,500 miles for $3500??? If it's not damaged or abused. Grab it!!!
Bro you’re a little too big for a sportster. Go for a wide glide
I have a 08' 1200L.. I hate how top heavy mine is. Other than that I love my Sporty. I am debating on buying the same exhaust.

Im glad you showed this , pay attention folks , if a sportster is a girls bike then that makes that ol boy one healthy woman lol . Look besides that suspension that bike didnt give a damn if it was his tiney wife or him.

This one is a 2008 XL 883 Low.
What color is that bike called
This is Rushfanatic87 on a new account. The color of that bike is Crimson Red Sunglow . Get it out in the sunlight, it has a very fine chartreuse green metalflake that pops in the sun.
What's the decibels of this exhaust
It has the standard baffles in. There is a special order, quiet baffle available. It barks loud enough, there's no sneaking in and out of the neighborhood when we go kickstands up at 0500 going on a trip. We always leave before daylight, so we can get out of Fort Worth before the traffic gets up.
carb or fuel injection?
Fuel injected, hence the reason for the computer remap of the fuel system.
the caption at the end
where do you buy the bag for the fork?! RushFanatic87
